I would love a slightly smaller open world Zelda next time. Not that I’m complaining. Me too. What I'd actually like is a really lean Zelda, Links Awakening style.

I’d like to see a sort of on/off schedule or so with a smaller scale, more traditional experience (either top down or smaller map akin to Ocarina etc) dovetailing with these larger open worlds.
Maybe two games a generation - one larger and one more condensed. We’ve sort of lost the latter since Nintendo merged their handheld/home consoles with the switch.

I can see that happening. I dont see where they go in terms of topping the scope of botw/totk. Going back to basics would make sense.

Ideally it would be good to see an original smaller scale game at least once a generation. You could throw in a remake here and there by a third party too.

Beat the final boss last night.
Bring lots of anti-gloom meals - or ideally lots of cooking pots to make more as you go.
I honestly found the "dungeon" and it's inhabitants more difficult then the boss

The last bit was pretty epic.

I need to get back to this. Still only maybe 3-4 hours in and haven't touched for a couple of weeks. I'm usually the one completing things first.

Have we done shrine counts yet?! I'm still playing this and up to about 70 hours & 2 dungeons down with close to 80 shrines (maybe half that number of light trees in the depths). I've actually somehow still got 2-3 towers to activate too.
I'm a bit limited with game time still these days and this is fitting the bill perfectly for those small pockets of time to follow a side quest or complete a shrine. It's nice to get some dedicated use out of the Switch after it got sidelined by the Steam Deck over the past year. I seem to remember with BotW that once I completed the dungeons I lost interest and just went straight on to Ganon so I may try to power through more shrines before moving closer to the end game.
Honestly not sure how they'd top this format of Zelda - it will certainly not be for a long time. I'd also be on board for a downsized one next time.

The last bit was pretty epic. The room full of horriblins followed immediately by a high level Lynel took me a few tries and lots of food. In contrast the actual boss fights were relatively easy. I thought I was fucked until I thought of burning through portable cooking pots. Running out of weapons was a concern as well - glad I had some of those Construct parts to fuse to make random stuff stronger. But yeah it was a good finale. FFXVI awaits!

I’m on 85 hours, 58 Shrines, 2 Temples and 278 Korok Seeds. I just got the Master Sword again and I’ve probably uncovered about a 3rd of the map so far(?). I’ve yet to travel south of Hyrule field at all, unless it has been in the depths.

Eep. I'm on 140 hours (!), 128 shrines, 209 seeds. Uncovered the whole surface map (though have some bits not well explored), and maybe 1/3 of the depths?
All temples done, and basically have the final "bit" to do that I'm still putting off.

I really need to pick this back up. Stopped partway through the Gerudo temple when Diablo 4 came along. All this talk of tricky combat for the final stretch is really putting me off, though. It's by far the weakest part of the game, so not something I'm looking forward to at all.

Same here. Can't remember where I am. I *think* I'm at the wind temple. Or I may have done it. But er, yes, diablo 4 has a lot to answer for at the minute

How much is left after the fourth temple in terms of main quest?
I'd like them to go back to a leaner Zelda after this. Or finally remake Wind Waker. I really like the open world but miss the more focused style sometimes. There's room for both even if it's just remakes like Link's Awakening. Loved that.

It's by far the weakest part of the game, so not something I'm looking forward to at all. Yeah the combat isn’t great. They upped the ante a little bit and I don’t think the combat systems are robust enough to cope. I’m doing the quest after the fourth temple and I’m finding it quite frustrating to be honest to the point where I think I’m happy to played my share and call it a day? It’s a weird game. I actually really enjoyed the 60 hours I have spent with it; don’t think I have been bored once at all, exploring is a joy and their something about the ambience of the game which is just feels good to be apart of, but I’m at a point where I’m suddenly having to learn about fusing and having to farm stuff to use - the game up to that point hasn’t really required me to do that , I just got through using the base mechanics and I can’t be really that arsed to try and try to grips with it. Diablo for you guys, but just fired up FF16.

I didn't like weapons breaking before so that's not new, and I can't remember if it was in BotW but I'm never a fan of enemy scaling as it nullifies the benefits of levelling up. I find the enemies too spongy too. Admittedly I should be using fuse more but I find it fiddly and annoying.
I just love exploring the world. I'd probably play pacifist at this point (about 70 hours in) if it were an option. People's comments on the end are putting me off finishing.

If it helps, most of the final dungeon's enemies (the Horriblins and Lynel mentioned before for instance) can be skipped with some movement options (the tried and tested Autobuild hoverbikes, other ways to gain some height or just simply running past). It's only after a certain point that you have to fight (you'll know when). And the final boss sequence is pretty great IMO.

Speaking of which, apparently this took me around 125 hours to finish (all Shrines/Lightroots, all memories and all temples)... It certainly did not feel like that many at all, it was just too much fun for me to care A lot of people have complained about the breakable weapons, but I honestly didn't find it that bad this time, considering even a tree branch could become a legitimate weapon with a decent item to fuse to it. Even the flimsiest weapons gain 25 extra durability when something is fused to them, no matter what it is. I did eventually start avoiding fights, but that was more because I didn't really need another Silver Boko horn for example, not because of weapon frustration... As for the final boss sequence, as I mentioned it was an absolute joy for me. The (spoilers ahead, obviously) tiny details like the torch Zelda dropped in the opening cutscene being found right near where Ganondorf is, since they fell to roughly the same spot, the Sages showing up to help you battle a straight up army (Hyrule Warriors: The Imprisoning War when, Nintendo?), second phase Ganondorf's health bar fakeout, the fact that he fights just like Link, even being able to Flurry Rush your Flurry Rush and can even permanently break your hearts with his Gloom attacks just like he did in the opening (well, at least until you get back to the surface) and of course, the sheer spectacle of the (admittedly easy) final part... All so, so good!

The funniest complaint I've seen has to be "damn near the entire soundtrack is reused" though... Like, did they play the game on mute or something? Oh yeah, let's just ignore the devastated town themes, everything to do with the Sky and Depths themes, the Temple/boss themes, Lookout Landing, Tarrey Town etc and probably lots more, they reused the happy town themes for the same towns so the whole soundtrack is lazy /eyeroll

The fov is really restrictive which doesn't help the combat as well.

One complaint I have about the combat is if you lock on to somebody, but the camera is at an angle, your dodging is in relation to the camera, not Link. And that can get you in trouble. It was the same in BotW and I never got used to it.
Besides that, I love it. Weapon durability seems better, once you stop hoarding monster parts and just fuse things. Once again I am having to leave behind most weapons I find because I don’t have space. Even though I fight everything I see.
If I had a second complaint about the game it would be your companions. The amount of times I’ve accidentally triggered a move when all I have wanted to do is pick something up. Or I am looking through my goggles and a blue mist suddenly blocks my view.

Yeah, I should probably turn off the water dude to simplify things a bit, the others are too useful though. That being said I do find myself running around in the heat of battle looking for the companion I'm after which doesn't work that well!
