There's plenty of places to see that kind of thing as often as you like on the internet Danno

I'm normally one for being quite dismissive of the whole switch looks shit now debate. I'm also strongly against the apparent obsession with pixels and FPS, it's boring and seems a bit daft to me personally. Plenty of switch games still look great on my TV and lovely on the OLED. But.... Age of Calamity is a good example of a game that needed better hardware and if that sort of situation was more common I'd certainly begin to change my mind.

Love the hype for new Nintendo hardware because nvidia are plugging amazing new tech destined for Tesla infotainment systems, when the reality is they’ll come out of the negotiating room with the job lot of Dacia FM radios they were always targeting

I'm one of the people that had less problems with AoC than I expected (guess I'm just lucky with not encountering issues on Switch in general, fingers crossed... Or I'm just more forgiving of said issues regardless of platform ) but it definitely strained the hardware sometimes. Not consistently enough to actually put me off, but I did see issues more often than other games. I think the worst parts were things I deliberately decided to do even though they were unnecessary, though. Farming drops with Link's two-handed moveset, full drop rate boosts, hundreds of drops and dead enemies on screen along with attack animations? Yeah, it chugged, but I also kind of expected it to, if that makes sense. Still, if that sort of performance became more commonplace I would start to get annoyed.

The idea that Nintendo have been hard at work developing the technology alongside nvidia is also really sweet, like we’ll be given some brand new hardware and not whatever chip was previously used in a mid spec 2020 nvidia shield tablet

This thread has to contain some of the most baffling arguments we have on here.
Switch games are all totally fine, we don't need an upgrade.
Lol, as if Nintendo would get decent hardware from Nvidia!
DLSS is rubbish on PC on one specific game so will obviously be terrible on closed hardware.
Etc etc.

The Switch COD players will be disappointed if they do use DLSS.

The Switch COD players will be disappointed if they do use DLSS. Yep, that's clearly why all these leaks must be fake.

There’s DF videos about all of this, a recent DF direct weekly talked about the nvidia leak, and Alex did one specifically about dlss on switch with examples of what 720p upscaled to 4K would look like. Spoiler, the leak has been legit so far and the upscale looks acceptable. I get why people are exited though, it’s been 15 years since Nintendo had a console that could run ports of current gen games.

You joke, but I did play through almost the entirety of Witcher 3 on the Switch a few years ago.

Common sense teaches that Nintendo always goes for cheap and cheerful, and I’m personally not 100% convinced that the chip won’t be borked in some way, but I totally get why people are sceptical. It’s still based on leaks and internet nerds making assumptions.

Nintendo takes an old chip out a Nokia 3315, bangs a nail through it to fuck half of it, sells 100 million.

Yeah but with the Switch nothing was borked, we'll see, hopefully they'll adopt a similar approach as the modern Nvidia mobile chipsets are properly powerful so no matter what, we should see a huge jump from the OG Switch, even if Nintendo do what Nintendo does.

Isn't the whole basis of Nintendo's business strategy based on the idea of 'redundant materials', I remember this coming up in my degree. Where they employ technology that is already abundant and therefore cheaper to acquire and produce. Obviously this business philosophy was not followed for the N64 and the GameCube and perhaps the Wii U, but in terms of sales the GameCube and Wii U were not big sellers. The innards of the Switch point to them following the philosophy again so I would assume them doing the same for whatever the Switch successor is.

The philosophy coined by Yokoi is "lateral thinking with withered technology".

I think that maybe those nvidia chips are abundant because they seem to be used for lane keeping cameras on modern cars.
