That looks fantastic. I hope they've not modded the engine too much so that it plays just as well as the first. It's out sooner than I thought!

In fairness Hit's price has only gone up a quid anyway. Can't see anything in their FAQs, but pretty sure Base did pre order price locks in the past.

Do you get charged for pre-orders from Base/Hit?

It's under £50 at shopto and there is an option to charge at dispatch and you are way more likely to get it early or on time than base.

Before I cancel my Base/Hit order and reorder from ShopTo.... are they defo more likely to get it to me earlier? That's a known thing with ShopTo? I haven't shopped physical for years, no idea who's good at pre-orders anymore!

Shopto have been release date delivery for me the last few times. TGC too sadly. Feels like they've all clamped down on it a bit as it's been a good few years since I've got an early release.
Hit/Base only charge at dispatch btw.

Yeah, Shopto is normally pretty good with deliveries. I think I may have actually got Dark Souls 3 from them a few days before release date.

I'm using a voucher for this as I prefer digital these days. 18gb!

Need to get some cash for this. Don't care where it comes from, but I need it!

Have they said anything about a new switch, because those screenshots look too sharp to be running on the current switch.

Yeah it looked very swicthlike to me in the footage, they may well have tampered with screenshots though.

I did half expect them to stick on the trailer "footage taken from Switch 2" in small print with no other mention, just for some classic Nintendo japes.

I wish they included a figure with the CE... love the ones I got with WW and TP HD releases on Wii U. They coulda just chucked the new amiibo in and I'd be happy!

According to metro if we can't play as Zelda in this the game is a failure and shouldn't be played. .

Fully back into breath of the wild now..it's just so relaxing to mess around in and I love how fluid everything is. I was confused why my arrows weren't exploding the barrels but it was okay as I got hit with a barrel that caught my arrow alight then I proceed to shoot it and exploded everyone. Might watch a YouTube video on all the various half secret things you can achieve in the world. Things like using the wind and a torch to set long grass on fire and burn them whilst they sleep.

I've been back on the original too and loving it. I played it way back when it first came out on Wii U and enjoyed it a lot, but never finished it. Played it again about a year or two ago, but for some reason only managed to put in 4 hours or so and just didn't get into it.
This time though I instantly fell for it. I think the last time I tried to rush through the opening sections, but it is definitely a game that rewards taking things slow and just soaking it all in. I didn't spend huge amounts of time on the Great Plateau (3 hours maybe), but just wondering around it for a little a bit and poking around in some of the unnecessary areas was a really lovely experience. I'm taking that approach to the rest of it, taking slightly more scenic routes to my destination, and it is just a joy to mess around in the environment.

I am finding parrying in this harder than dark souls!! Unless I'm doing something wrong the dodge and parry counters I always mess up and get hit.

Parrying is a fucking nightmare.

I only ever used parries on Guardian lasers IIRC, everything else I found easier to just go for the dodge as even without perfect timing for the Flurry Rush you usually still avoided the attack.
The Guardian lasers though have pretty consistent timing (unless you're on Master Mode, or far enough away that the laser actually has to travel a bit). I can't explain it too well in words but basically a little bit after the audio cue that they're firing it. The risk is big, since they bypass even the last chance quarter heart most other enemies leave you with (intentionally done to make them more intimidating) but it's basically a guaranteed one-shot on the rusted ones and three-shot on the walking ones.

I was trying to parry some normal enemies with spears. It seemed impossible as nothing worked after trying various timings.

Yeah, parrying times are random on Master Mode, but you can figure out safe timings for pretty much everything on the regular mode.

Apparently there's been a big spoilery leak of images from the game's artbook, so be careful if you don't want any spoilers.

Tears of the Kingdom Direct tomorrow, which will include 10 mins of gameplay footage. Will be at 3pm BST.
In two minds whether I will watch this or not. Looking forward to finding out how this is going to distinguish itself from Breath of the Wild, but also want to have plenty of surprises when it comes out.
I'm going to end up watching it though.

Yeah, I don't think I saw that much gameplay before I started BOTW, and I think a lot of my enjoyment was because of how it all unfolded without knowing what's coming next. I might just skip it tbh.

I'm still kind of gutted they're seemingly reusing the same game world for this. Hoping the gameplay tomorrow mitigates my fears but at the moment I'm way less hyped than I should be considering BOTW is a top 3 all timer for me.
Without wishing to be a classic entitled gamer I would have preferred a proper new Zelda (not linked to BOTW so overtly) launching on new hardware so I don't have to endure 900p/28fps again. As it stands with development cycles I guess we're at least 6 years away from that wish being realised.

I don’t mind them using the same map but I’m hoping some of the areas/villages have been fleshed out or at least changed significantly.
I’ll be disappointed if, for example, Zora’s domain just looks the exact same.

Zelda TOTK reusing BOTW assets to the extent I think it will (but hope not) is similar to my thoughts on Mario Kart 8 which was a rehash of the WiiU version. Always loved Nintendo for their innovation but this gen there's been too much iteration and upcycling of WiiU software.
I'm just pining for new hardware at this point with *proper* new Zelda, MK and Super Mario.
