Ooh thanks for the heads up on Devs. In 4k HDR too. That new Ridley Scott film with Jodie Comer is up there too, the one where Matt Damon cosplays as his team America puppet. Excellent! It’s supposed to be quite good — certainly better than House of Gucci.

Tbf, Apple+ hardly release anything. I'll be cancelling my free trial later this month as there's bugger all to watch on it.

I really enjoyed Ted Lasso, Foundation, Mythic Quest and S1 of the Morning Show so will subscribe again but I'll wait till the next season of them are all up then subscribe for a month or two and cancel again. Ironically if they didn't do the weekly release bullshit I'd be happy to stick with them every month.

Mythic Quest... I forgot about that. I watch Foundation which was pretty good, but a bit meandering and had too many Burnhams in it. I also watched the first episode of Ted Lasso, but it wasn't for me. To be honest, weekly release tends to keep me on things like this. I'm joining Netflix soon for a month, mostly for the kids for Christmas. But I can also binge Witcher 2 without needing to subscribe for more than a month, so I can see why they do it. Also, it gives us something to look forwards to and talk about as a family and at work if it comes out weekly (Hawkeye / Wheel of Time). If it was all dumped in one go, I'd have watched it already and be twiddling my thumbs and in danger of having to talk to someone or something...

Just Google it, the Avril Lavigne replacement conspiracy. I met her in a Parisian restaurant in 2004, was definitely her although she was much prettier than I expected from TV. Shit....

Apple TV is worth signing up for 1 month every so often and plowing through the good stuff on there. It needs more content to hook people into anything more.
They have a higher percentage of good programming, it is a problem when there’s only a small amount released each month. They need to commit to it and make a load of stuff instead of playing the long game.

Signing up to netflix for a month sounds like a good idea, I often do the free trial for amazon prime over xmas. That said, netflix doesn't have such a good kids movie selection these days, does it? Disney+ has them all.
Personally, I'm liking this trend of weekly episodes, it allows us to talk about the shows and look forward to each episode.

I think the weekly episodes make sense with a lot of shows - like it's working fine with Hawkeye (indeed it worked well with all the MCU shows except WandaVision, which suffered because of the extremely inconsistent quality, interesting-ness, and even actual episode-length), but with Dopesick, which is pretty damn good, I'm just finding it annoying, because there's not much to talk about/anticipate (given it's based on real and fairly well-known events).
Re: Disney+ recommendations, The World According To Jeff Goldblum is surprisingly (?) good light watching. I mean, I guess on one level it's kind of pro-consumerist and so on but it does at least sort of acknowledge that, and on another, he totally does not actually look at the history or processes involved in the things, so if you say, actually want to know the history of ice-cream, you absolutely will not learn it here. But the main thing is it's Jeff Goldblum being charming, having a good time, and talking about stuff in an engaging way, and yeah occasionally you learn something.

I'm mostly getting Netflix for a tween and one slightly older, so it must have some stuff on it as they're both really looking forward to it. Last year they watched a lot of American teen series and the Christmas film with Kurt Russell. I'm going to watch Red Notice, Witcher and Lucifer and that's it I think.

I don't mind the week to week thing, personally, but you can't run a competitive streaming service on just original content, no matter the quality. Netflix Originals are on occasion quite good, but the reason it remains so successful even with the barrage of competitors is because they allow you stream thousands of shows and films from all over the world. American sitcoms aren't your thing? That's fine, watch this Swedish noir detective drama. Disney Plus gets away with it because they own a fuckton of back catalog to just toss on the service.

Even Disney+ would have started having issues if they hadn't added that other channel (Starz?) and all the stuff that comes with that.
EDIT: Apparently Disney+ heard I was talking shit about it and decided to shut me the fuck up by putting a 4K HDR Dolby 5.1 version of Die Hard (the original, not the sequels, they were already there) up on it.
Alright Disney, you win this round.

I’m really loving Hawkeye. It’s way better than it has any right to be. Possibly the best of all the Disney spin-offs, but its got competition. I wouldn’t argue if someone preferred something else. As long as it wasn’t Falcon & Winter Soldier. It’s light hearted but has great action. Very Christmassy too. A perfect way to get into the Yuletide mood. With this and Die Hard you are set!

So will Florence Pugh continue to do that silly Russian accent forever now in marvel movies? Feels like she should just slowly drop it as she becomes more ‘Americanised’.

The documentary about the rescue of the kids from the Thai cave back in 2018 is really good. My brother in law managed to only attempt about 8 jokes about peodos which was surprisingly low.

Dopesick is very, very good about the aggressive, dishonest marketing of OxyContin by an absolute spawn of the devil pharmaceutical company. It’s got Michael Keaton, Rosario Dawson and it’s incredibly moving, although it will make you furious too It’s eight one-hour episodes, just don’t expect any high drama; this was a painstaking and methodical investigation conducted over several years and stuff mainly happens in meetings. It’s never boring though.

How does Hawkeye and co know which arrow he is pulling out of the quiver. No spoilers but even then my question is not answered. Has this been covered in lore?

How does Hawkeye and co know which arrow he is pulling out of the quiver. No spoilers but even then my question is not answered. Has this been covered in lore? There are two lore explanations. In the comics, he pulls basic "pointy" arrows and incredibly quickly attaches trick heads as needed from pockets/bandolier on his costume. It's pretty much never shown, but it is mentioned once or twice. It's also not consistent as he's frequently shown with pre-assembled arrows, so there's no real explanation there. In the MCU, in the movies, he has a special mechanical quiver, which is shown in at least one movie, where the "trick" heads aren't attached, but he uses a dial or button on his bow to select the one he wants, the quiver rotates a shaft into place and attaches it to the arrowhead, and he pulls that (the "trick" arrow is always in the same location). Without the "trick" heads the arrows are "normal" pointy arrows. In Hawkeye, he isn't shown wearing that fancy quiver, just a normal quiver (IIRC), and more importantly, Kate Bishop has normal quiver, so the real question I guess is how does Kate Bishop know? And "movie magic" is the only answer (with practice weight or different-feeling fletching or textured shafts could do it, but none of that applies to the show). And now we're all a little bit nerdier.
