Just started playing this on the switch. What an absolute delight. I'm very late to the party I know.
Does anyone know how we do spoiler marks on this yet?
I've done a few things and wondering where I should be heading.
Deepnest done but think I missed a load of bosses.
I have
The tram pass Double dash Wall jump The special nail ability that let's me collect dream balls The map now showing a certain three places I should be heading.

I'm pretty much at the exact same place so just going around with the dream nail whacking stuff. It is a good time

Yeah I love Hollow Knight, definitely one of my fave games of all time. Can be quite tough though, but stick with it. It's also surprisingly long (but in this instance that's actually a good thing)

Only one way to find out? It is a great game, although some dislike the difficulty of it.

It's got some tough bits and I'm very early game, in particular the mantis trio nothing that is beyond dark souls/salt and sanctuary etc if you've played those kind of games. I would argue that some of the encounters have been a bit more on the "unfair" side. I will allow them that as the rest of it is a sheer delight. Anyone know if there is a fast travel to deepnest?

I would say Hollow Knight is harder than Dark Souls.
It’s 2D nature does however make it easier to see incoming attacks and therefore to me it feels fairer. Attacks also take off smaller chunks of your health, so getting taken out by an attack you didn’t see is less likely.
The reason I think Hollow Knight is harder however is that you need to dodge far more and there is rarely a gap in the fight long enough to heal. I therefore simply didn’t heal in Hollow Knight’s boss fights whereas I am healing all the time in Souls boss fights. (Apart from a couple of Demon’s ones I did flawlessly).

There's no silly stamina meter though so you can go to town on the dashing. Healing in boss fights is doable. You can heal pretty reliably when the 2 mantis cling to the walls and throw their blades across the screen. Just sit in the middle and heal (might have to jump it sometimes)

Yeah, I remember there being very few opportunities for healing in boss fights, and doing so usually means missing an opportunity to attack, and so it's a gamble that you can go another attack pattern without being hit to make it worthwhile. (Outside of stuns)

Amazing game but it demands you to git gud... which I could not be bothered with, essentially I hit a wall with the bosses.
But while I did play it I absolutely loved the world building and atmosphere. Have the OST also that I put on sometimes while pottering about.

Upgrading the nail is fairly important in Hollow Knight. I inadvertently made the game harder for myself by not having my nail as levelled as it could be when fighting some / most of the bosses.
There was an optional big grub like thing that birthed smaller babies that I felt was impossible when I first tried it as I couldn’t kill the babies as quick as they spawned. Went back much later and killed it with ease.

I don't think it's that bad but I wouldn't even consider the no deaths mode that unlocks when you finish it

I thought this was every bit as tough as Dark Souls and Demons' Souls, but way more enjoyable to control. You still get punished in combat for making the wrong calls, but it completely lacks the stiffness and clunkiness of the Dark Souls series. Its as if Dark Souls was being played at double speed and had some kind of momentum and weight to movement that Dark Souls completely lacks (even though that feels like what its trying to go for).
Also, some of the end game bosses in Hollow Knight are on a whole different level to anything I encountered in those two games.

The main thing I remember about Hollow Knight was that some of the bosses you had to really keep up smacking them and not making mistakes for what felt like an absolute eternity sometimes. I absolutely loved it and am looking forward to Silksong (haven't heard any news on it for a while though) but I never did go after any of the serious endgame stuff. Considering how hard I found some of the earlier to mid game bits Watcher Knights and Soul Master I don't think I could face it.

This game is continuing to blow me away. Its an actual work of art. My only criticism at the moment is it's a bit hard to navigate between areas.
There're a few options for fast travel but are quite spaced out.

Yeah, it feels every bit a game people will be talking about forever. A proper classic
It's also so consistently good, I'm not at all worried about Silksong

I'm bloody lost now haha. Opened up a fair bit and got soke decent moves to help me get around.
Just refuse to look up a guide. Want to find it out for myself. This strategy is proving frustrating at times though.
What a game though

Just keep looking at the map. If anything looks uncompleted, revisit when you've gained new skills.
I think they added pins to the 'barthana' lady bug, you can buy them and pin them to points of interest to remind yourself later.

Time for round 3 of attempting to get into this. Reached the first boss. Have to say I'm really not a fan of boss contact damage in any game ever, but everything else is getting its hooks into me

As someone who has attempted various Souls games but quit after a few hours, I'm surprised when I hear people say HK is the harder game.
The map is so big in HK that you can just explore for ages and ages before you really need to fight a lot of the bosses. Some of them become really easy once you've levelled up sufficiently, whereas early on they feel like absolute nails.
I also don't get the frustrations with the map. It's refreshing how it just tells you to go off and explore – lends a real sense of discovery.
Silksong is by farrrrr my most anticipated game. I absolutely can't wait to play it.
Also, obligatory: play Rain World if you like HK. It's even better imo, although more unforgiving.

I imagine it depends on what type of games you enjoy most/are used to playing. I love 2d games and never stopped playing them, regularly pick up stuff like Mega Man, so don't find HK too bad at all. Danno's comment is a good example - I wouldn't even think twice about contact damage with enemies but if you're used to DS, you're also used to just rubbing up against enemies with no penalty
