Bit unlucky there Lewis, would have had Perez but for the safety car.

Hamilton must be so sick of the safety car.

I don't know why Sky are getting so excited about the Mercs. They are still damn near a second off the leader at the best of times. It's clearly just Red Bull having a bit of a mare here putting them in the mix. Ferrari in a league of their own, they are very impressive.

Typical that the worst race so far required a 5.30 wake up call.

Albon getting Williams a point was the one highlight of that.

I think Williams getting a point might have been the most unlikely thing to happen today

57 lap stint for Albon, fucking get out of town. Brilliant.
Think I'll have a much needed sleep now, surprised I didn't drop off during that snoozefest.

Decent race again despite being blighted by numerous safety cars, again.
Albon very impressive. Was consistently over a second a lap faster than Latifi on 20+ lap older tyres.
Norris had very slow last lap. Was it just for the PR photo finish or did he make a mistake? Prior to that he'd easily gapped Riccardo.
Feel a bit for Sainz, Alonso and Lewis. All significantly disadvantaged through no fault of their own. Sainz compounded the problem and Champions don't do that too often.

A bit of a weird race overall. Schumacher somehow finished above Magnussen despite having a really scrappy race. Alonso couldn’t make medium tyres work. Old hard tyres keeping fresh tyres at bay.
Good to see McLaren and Williams in the top 10. Mercs edging closer back to the top two. There race pace is pretty decent. Hamilton could have easily had Perez position. Good to see Red bull get all the karma they deserve and Perez being ahead of Max.

They were over a second a lap slower than Ferrari when everyone was actually pushing. Agree Hamilton was in with an outside shout of second but for the safety car. Seemed like he had a better handle on the tyres than George today and might have been able to come back at Sergio later on.

Not sure about that, Perez was ok on the hard tyre and it's not like Lewis was particularly close to George. I don't think they were told to hold position or anything like that.

Ultimately it's speculation but he had a fair advantage on mediums towards the end of the first stint then had caught up a sizeable gap to Russell on the hards. Chances are Perez would have had enough, but it might have been closer.

Just seen Lewis's interview. His radio comment was because he was told to back off for engine overheating once he was within a second of Russell. I guess that would have happened with Perez anyway but he might have been able to take advantage of any mistake.

I had planned to get up for this but was up in the night with a poorly daughter. Woke up for the last 10 laps, doesn't look like I missed much. Other than a monster drive by Albon. Remarkable.

Having potentially 3 competitive teams is great for the sport. What we have now is another team speeding ahead, which is far less interesting. For Red Bull I had a feeling they would regret taking on the ownership of the Honda engine, but they may sort out the issues. And for Mercedes it looks like it'll take a while for them to sort their issues out. Like someone said it looked flattering this race.

Can't say I have too much sympathy for Max or Red Bull but a Leclerc retirement next time out would be helpful for the Championship. The Ferrari does just seem the most refined and well developed car. The Mercedes is reliable but slow and the Red Bull is fast (maybe even fastest when they get the setup right) but fragile. It does appear that last year's championship battle really did impact the new car for both teams.

I mean I had no sympathy for Schumacher and Ferrari, but it takes at least two teams to be a competitive worthwhile championship. I'd rather them all have reliable cars.

The era of them all having unreliable cars was actually pretty good too in terms of unpredictability. In the old days no one ever felt safe. It was only the Ferrari Schumacher era that shifted expectations that a Championship winning car had to finish every single race.

So I finally thought I’d check ‘F1: Drive to Survive’ out and honestly… ehhh.
It’s slick and glamorous and all behind-the-scenes and that and I love that Gunther chap but this isn’t racing. This is a soap opera during which races happen, which are almost in the background and which decide semi-fictional conflicts and settle questions Once And For All.
This isn’t racing, I expected more.

Biggest advantage for one team we've seen in decades. Red Bull 1.5s back, noone else within 3s. Only the top two teams and Haas seem to be able to get the tyres working.
The porpoising on the Merc seems worse if anything. I genuinely thought Russell's suspension had collapsed it was sparking so much.
McLaren appear to genuinely be 6s a lap off the pace!
For once I'm not sure we want a wet race.

For once I'm not sure we want a wet race. Whilst I'm really happy Ferrari are doing so well I do wish it was closer than this. No fan really benefits when one team has such a large advantage. Hopefully at least red bull can catch up before it's too late. As for the Mercs - their 'upgrade' does seem to have made the porpoising worse. Only practice but surprised at the gap between Russell and Ham.
