It is a bit bigger than Lewis vs max. It's a sporting issue. I imagine merc will be heavily compensated or given some golden ticket like ferrari and the rocket engine.
Merc in return come out and say they don't agree with the result but accept it for the good of the fans and that Lewis wants to win it on traxk. F1 admit that it was mishandled but with good intentions and there will be learning.

It is but I'm sure he will have been consulted on the matter, and he doesn't strike me as someone who'd want his name associated with that sort of thing. It is what it is, really. Equally damaging to strip someone who has thrown the dice, played the hand they were dealt and succeeded.
The attention it has garnered alone will probably be enough to do some lasting good anyway. It sounds like the radio calls are being chucked straight into the bin, which is an excellent start.

I really fucking hope the field is closer bunched next year. The races where we've suddenly had a McLaren / Ferrari / Whatever in the mix have been great.
Really sick of the top two drivers being able to pit and come out still ahead of the rest of the pack.

Yep, I am extremely glad to see the back of this era. Hopefully it's close enough that other actual racing cars are able to stay within the pit window of the front runners to mix it up, and the tyres and cars give them the incentive to do anything other than pull over onto the side of the road for them to sail by when they have the audacity to be sharing the same piece of road.
It's been really shit for very long periods. This season feels like karma for sticking with it.

Prior to this weekend, I was kind of hoping that next year, we'd have totally new frontrunners as it would be great to see some totally new drivers and teams in that position. I was also thinking that I'd probably favour Russell more than Hamilton in the Mercedes battle.
Hamilton massively surprised me with how graciously he dealt with one of the most epic shaftings in sporting history. I've never hugely warmed to him as a person before but rather like Massa after Brazil 2008, he's gone up in my estimations a hell of a lot.
I'd really like to see him to get one more than bow out now. That record didn't matter to me in the slightest until yesterday. If it turns out to be between George's first and Hamilton's eighth next year, that's no longer the easy answer it would once have been.

Agreed, though with that said his general attitude seems to have massively improved this year, so I've been impressed on a number of occasions in 2021. I think he's finally had the chance to grow up a bit and see that there's a world beyond the F1 bubble.

I really hope Ferrari and McLaren are up there going for regular wins next year. Add Leclerc, Sainz, Norris and hopefully an improved Ricciardo into the mix with Verstappen, Hamilton and Russell and it could be extremely tasty.
I think someone already said it but I'm hugely impressed with Sainz beating Leclerc in his first season. He's had a quietly superb year.

Best take I've seen on twitter....
They wanted a dramatic finish. Racing is organically dramatic. Latifi crashed w 5 laps. Max's advantage-tires. Lewis'-track position/ 5 cars between him/Max. Track cleared for 1 racing lap. Organic.Masi eliminated Lewis' advantage, WHY not let BOTH overcome their disadvantage?

I wouldn't be surprised if Hamilton retires. I think if he won he would have, but there might be a bit of fight him in to still give it one more season. In a way I would kind of like to see Oscar Piastri join the likes of Max, Norris, Russell, Sainz, Leclerc. Boy has talent. But yeah I hope the field is a lot closer. Like to see a three/four way title battle for sure.

I have to +1 the praise for Hamilton. Racing aside which he's also been exceptional in this year, the way he's used his voice to finally fully speak against the grain of where F1 is headed ethically is the stuff of a true role model. The fact he's been overlooked for sports personality this year while people like known homophobe and misogynist Tyson Fury is given the nod is disgraceful, if sadly unsurprising.

Heh, it will stand the test of time.
Really don't have a problem with the guy when he's doing the good he's doing. I simply can't abide the version that can't go two sentences without insinuating something stupid.

If Hamilton retired as soon as Mercedes lost their ridiculous advantage, it would be slightly FRAUD ACTIONS.
I would actually watch more often if Hamilton was battling racers every race, and not having an absolute cake walk like most of his career.

I've rated Sainz for a long time, but he has surprised me with how well he's matched up with Leclerc. This season suggests he's a potential top tier talent rather than a second tier. Also retrospectively suggests Norris might be the real deal given he gave him a hard time as an absolute rookie and only got closer. Those two are are probably the 'breakthroughs' from this season in terms of their 'stock rising' when both were predicted to struggle against highly rated new teammates.

Will be interesting to see if things get reset to zero at teams like McLaren with the reg changes. If Norris is still comfortably outpacing Ric after a wiped slate he's going to be hard to ignore for long if you're a top team.

Mclaren's new wind tunnel should come online next year, but I guess 2024 might be the first car to really benefit from it. I'd love Mclaren to become a major player again. They are my 'local' F1 team.

Yeah it's so weird feeling like its a huge deal that they were fighting for 3rd this year. Need them back at the sharp end. Really hope customer teams have more of a fair crack this time around.

Another interesting angle in all this is the betting markets. I wonder how much money was won and lost and would be open to legal challenges. I'm not sure whether this strengthens Mercedes or the FIAs position/resolve but it's got to be a factor.

They are my 'local' F1 team. They've been my favourite since Hakkinen & Coulthard. Hamilton ditching them is one reason I'm not a fan of the guy.

Bloody hell, they are already back testing today.
Got to feel for Bottas in the Alfa for the first time today. Must be sat there thinking "You guys were driving this shit all along!?"
From brake magic and stalled aero genius to not being able to work a fucking drinks bottle properly for half a season. Poor guy.
