This is going to stand tonight and then go to the Court of Arbitration for Sport As I said, that might not be the worst thing given major changes are needed at the top.

The only way I can think of this shitfest leaving with any credibility. Is to state that massi has the power to do the safety car lapped thing as race director. It will be reviewed for future seasons. However accept that max passed Lewis who was the "safety car" even though marginal. Give max a 5 sec pen. Lewis wins. That way fia don't look like tits and can say "well max you shouldn't have passed lewis" blame shifted and a just result recorded. They'll be desperate not to overturn the result. I think they'll do the first part (internally accept Masi fucked up but find some clause somewhere about discretion and use that as the get-out, while tightening it up for future) but I don't think they'll hit Verstappen with a championship-changing penalty for an incredibly marginal nose-ahead-moment - they'll say something about Hamilton accelerating/decelerating more than he should have been and Verstappen being fully behind anyway by the time they actually restarted.

Has a previously awarded title ever been overturned? Been racking my brains but I don't believe it's ever happened.
Teams / drivers have been excluded, and races have had their results changed, but I don't think a title has ever been decided in arbitration / court.

They've already dismissed the overtaking the SC appeal.
It's only the procedure one that remains.

Looks like it's going to CAS then.
I can't see a reasonable defence for the FIA here.

I guess they can argue it was wrong but didn't affect the outcome but how can they prove it didn't given the positions changed?

My god they can’t even get the decision appeal right. Horner and RB telling us about whats happened before the F1 and the FIA do.

I'm as pissed off as anyone about the way it played out, but in a sport where people have died in action quite recently, this is a misplaced sentiment dude.

The stewards said that although that article may not have been “applied fully” as the safety car came in at the end of the same lap, “Article 48.13 overrides that and once the message ‘Safety Car in this lap’ has been displayed, it is mandatory to withdraw the safety car at the end of that lap.
So in short: If we get one rule wrong we’re in the clear if another rule needs to be carried out.
Top bollocks!

Not sure it *will* go to CAS. It seems like although Masi clearly fucked up, the rules are so badly worded that they accidentally provide just enough wiggle room that the race director can do basically anything, even if that's not what is intended...

Logically speaking, it does make sense that the "SC in" message overrides any further movement of the field. I get it.
I have to say I support the attitude from the race director to try and resolve the race under green conditions, and it's just been revealed on SSN that there's a gentleman's agreement between all the teams to support that. In my opinion, a red flag should have been thrown as soon as the incident happened to allow for a standing start and a few laps of racing, like happened in Baku. It's also easy to say these things in hindsight, a lot harder in reality when you've got the big job probably.

Reckon Masi will be moved sideways, quietly, during the closed season.

Definitely a red flag, giving everyone fresh tyres and a few laps, would have avoided this pantomime finale.

I'm as pissed off as anyone about the way it played out, but in a sport where people have died in action quite recently, this is a misplaced sentiment dude. I wasn't aware this was a term reserved solely for deaths/injuries. If it is, I apologise. I meant it in so far as the FIA seemingly have doubled down on the race directors right to abandon the rule book and freestyle in arbitrary ways on a whim. That is catastrophic for any kind of consistency, fairness or integrity moving forward.

Reckon Masi will be moved sideways, quietly, during the closed season. I very much doubt he wants to do the job any more anyway. Imagine dealing with those whiny bitches Horner and Wolff?

I’d imagine it’s always been like that, we just get to hear it now. Probably less so in the past, given Merc could snooze their way to most of the constructors titles they won.
