Ahh I'm so annoyed f1 have allowed this to go this way. Absolute bottle job. It's not fair on either driver.
Get some fucking cast iron rules and use them. This is pure Netflix bullshit and messed up one of the best seasons ever

So MV overtaking under safety car and Masi not following rules?
Of course no investigation necessary. Just out of curiosity; does it have something to do with Hamilton not being white or are they just tired of seeing the same guy win? I don't remember the FIA/stewards being this hostile to Schumacher.

Latter I expect. It was undoubtedly getting boring watching the Merc progression to the title every year.

I don't think it's fair to accuse anyone that takes a decision against Hamilton of racism, it lowers the debate (unless there's any actual evidence of it). I think Masi panicked - he was not going to let lapped cars through, got bullied into it then realised doing so would mean the race finished under the safety car.

I don't think they are biased. I think Massi and the stewards prioritising 'the show' and try and use the rules to keep the drama alive.
They have engineered a last lap show down and that's all they cared about.

Race card really isn't necessary to any discussion about this.

So it begins
Formula 1 @f1 BREAKING: Mercedes have protested "against the classification established at the end of the Competition", relating to alleged breaches of Articles 48.8 and 48.12 of the FIA Sporting Regulations

Did Max overtake? I know he got close, but didn't think he did.

According to the rules, Mercedes have a case in both. Max barely overtook under the safety car so I'd let that one go. The other one is far far more egregious.

The sports a mess. Spa was the worst thing I've ever seen in F1. This is top three. Jeddah probably top ten. A lot of failings on Massi's watch.

Easier to remedy though if you say Max overtook under safety car. Max wasn't at fault for the unlapping thing, so you can't penalise him for that, but the overtaking is arguably something you could give him a 5 second penalty for.

However that just furthers the farce in many ways. Better to admit they didn't apply the safety car rules properly and count back one lap. Makes it clear for the future that there are actual procedures to be followed and Massi got overexcited. I feel for Massi but this really should cost him his job.

Just mad that there were three perfectly legitimate options available to Massi (red flag, all unlap and finish under SC or no one unlaps 1 lap shoot-out) and instead he made up his own scenario. Tough job but he's doing it really, really badly.

No sympathy for Masi though. He's being paid handsomely to do a job and that job requires him to
a) know the rules and regulations b) Apply said rules and regulations c) make rational decisions
He cannot do any of them.

On a somewhat unrelated note, Alonso's racecraft was a joke today. Sad to see him joining the race to the bottom, cutting the track then forcing someone off should be beneath him.

I still can’t get onboard with George Russell’s face. I swear he’s a CGI construct.

Just sack the race director and give Hamilton the title. Simple solution.
Never happen though. Will it? Hmm..

Yeah, he's made an entirely unnecessary rod for his back with that. Not for the first time. Brazil the same. I don't think many people would really have minded had this race been seen as fair tbh. We'd probably just have had Wolff shaking his fist at a cloud. Even if this appeals get waived away, I can't imagine the cloud over this one dissipating any time soon.

Also Perez was awesome. Thought he judged what's legal perfectly in slowing Hamilton up, and Lewis also kept his head really well to clear that hurdle. Such a pity we aren't talking about that instead of the stewards again.

Sainz almost lost fourth because Riccardo and Stroll weren't allowed to unlap themselves and held him up. There are more than two cars in a GP Michael, they all deserve an equal opportunity!

Bottas should have done that job a few times this season, but then they sacked him half way through.

Max breezed past him so many times.

Elsewhere, Sainz beating Leclerc is pretty huge, even if he had a bit of luck along the way. That pairing has the potential to be a proper force with the right car.

He's got a really quiet way about him out on the track. Just always seems to be there or there abouts on any given weekend. It's an excellent quality to have.

It's a shame he left McLaren but as an F1 driver you simply do not reject Ferrari.
