It's the change of mind that bothers me. Make a decision and stick to it. Hundred percent. I personally think they should have just thrown a red flag as soon as it happened. Finishing under the safety car or with 5 lapped cars between them for one lap would have been an embarrassing advert. Yeah, good call. Then they both start on new soft tyres and it's a genuine race.

I equally found Lewis being able to unlap himself under red flag conditions after he'd crashed earlier this season a bit daft. Max has had the rub of the green here, but let's not pretend he hasn't been a bit unfortunate earlier on. He's had his fortune here.

Yeah, some real bullshit decisions today. What do you expect, the yanks that now own F1 demand a show, even a shitshow.
Worth it to see Toto's mug. Decided in the F1 courts probably

Hats off to Lewis though, being incredibly magnanimous. A Vettel in Montreal would have been entirely understandable.

Sickening. Just not a fair sporting contest. Luck is part of sport but that wasn't luck. Mercedes called it perfectly. If the usual safety car rules were applied he'd either have had a 5 car buffer or the race would have finished behind the safety car due to the time needed to let that all through.
It's not bad luck to fail to predict the racing director suddenly inventing a new procedure.
Don't know how Hamilton handled that with so much grace. He drove excellently and was the better man today and marginally this year on balance.
Max was also great but it really shouldn't have been his day. That was another manipulation from the FIA to engineer another battle after the war had already been won fair and square.

It’ll sink in after a while that he didn’t deserve the win. But Lewis has been great.

They are both champions. The level they've pushed each other to this year completely beggars belief. They've been in their own Formula for 80% of the season.
We're lucky to have both of them on the grid. Hope next season delivers, and Ferrari and McLaren join the mix.

All lapped cars or none!
I mean, it’s only in the bloody rules,
39.12 If the clerk of the course considers it safe to do so, and the message "LAPPED CARS MAY NOW OVERTAKE" has been sent to all teams Competitors via the official messaging system, any cars that have been lapped by the leader will be required to pass the cars on the lead lap and the safety car.
Any lapped cars… required to (unlap)

The fact that they were leaving the others cars as a buffer and then changed the decision as the safety car moved off was shady as hell
If they’d have confirmed that earlier Hamilton might have been able to change to softs and could have had a run at Verstappen
It was all just a massive fix and a terrible conclusion to the season

Rarely watch F1, but in my mind that isn't a good advert.
Just doesn't seem fair, which sport always should be.

Netflix are going to have to delete their entire library to accommodate next year's Drive to Survive.

I think the FIA need to have a sit down now and really look at some of the regulations that have created some crazy situations this year - the lead car getting heavily penalised every time there's a safety car, that race where everyone except Lewis started from the pit lane, off track overtakes, using run off areas to avoid racing, red flag rules.
There's been too much that's relied on luck or inconsistent stewarding decisions (both for Hamilton and Verstappen)

Did cross my mind Was hoping Max would win, but I am oldschool, the manipulation and variable interpretation of the rules at various races in the name of entertainment is not for me. But Liberty will lap it up.

Yeah the lead car suffering every time under a safety car needs looking at.

I'm so disappointed with Massi. Worst possible outcome. A fair win either way would have been better and was on the table.

Russell already at Merc? but I don't disagree TBH
"George Russell @georgerussell63 · 32m Max is an absolutely fantastic driver who has had an incredible season and I have nothing but huge respect for him, but what just happened is absolutely unacceptable. I cannot believe what we’ve just seen.

Apart from anything else the car behind Max literally just lost a full lap on the people they were racing.
There's a reason the rule is written the way it is.

yeah, with millions potentially at stake from constructors I don't think this will be the end of it. Can see Masi being the FIA's sacrifice.

It's also two rule breaches not one.
All cars, and the safety car comes in the following lap after the last car has passed.
Ironic Massi being so against ending the race under safety car after Spa where he was fine with the entire race being under safety car.

I don’t really want to see this goes the courts but if it shows up the FIA for what it is. I still can’t quite believe what I watched.
Unfair on Max, unfair for Lewis, Red Bull, Mercs and Latifi to be put in this position.

Could get stripped of championship and go to Hamilton if it goes in Mercedes favour?

Would depend what the remedies are, don't think there's any way that Hamilton could win the championship. At this stage might just be Mercedes wanting their pound of flesh from Masi.

Either it's a proper sport with rules, or its NASCAR where it's entertainment first and a sport second.

Yeah. As muddyfunster says, Max's 12.5 points for following the safety car to the chequered flag in Spa seems a long time ago.

Lots of "Unlucky Lewis!" comments flying around. There's being unlucky and there's seeing the championship virtually handed to someone else when you were walking it with minutes to go.
If a fair fight was what was required, they would have red flagged it.

Red flag would have been fair IMO, if you are gonna manipulate the rules give them both a chance and 5 laps on softs. There is your Hollywood ending, you oval racing freaks.
Instead this will drag on and on
