To be fair Mercedes have been known for saying similar stuff even when they've had a much more dominant car throughout the hybrid era. As a fan it just sounds like disingenuous bollocks but I guess it keeps the factory and team on their game and not resting on their laurels for too long.
To be fair, if you look what Max can get out of that car compared to Checo then you could say that Christian has a point. At least Lewis and Valtteri are (consistently) much closer.
Going on their whole careers it's pretty clear that Bottas is by far the better qualifier but Perez has the much better racecraft. It renders any attempt to make judgements based on teammates fairly moot. Neither of them are getting anything like the same performance out of the cars as their more illustrious teammates, but are underperforming in different ways. It was pretty telling that Lando was P3 for half the season.
He does blow him out of the water on race pace though. Bottas has always struck me as a Trulli-type driver; great qualifier but pretty oridinary on most Sundays of the year. That's where Lewis really shines so it's a total mismatch.
I also think this season is probably quite unrepresentative as it's very clearly been Max vs Lewis from minute 1 of the season. All resources have had to be thrown behind their respective title efforts so the second drivers have just had to eat shit a lot of the time really, what with a budget cap and new rules coming in to play next year.
The telemetry showed that Di Grassi braked later on lap 1 with cold tyres than he did on his qualifying lap. Of course he claimed it was an 'innocent' mistake.
We've also had the DTM incident recently. It's not actually as rare as rare as people would like to believe. Drivers get tempted.

Hamilton just blocked Mazepin again. Literally just as he left the pits so again he wouldn't have been able to see him coming. Still ridiculous from Mercedes not to be hot on informing their drivers after last week and a grid penalty would be harsh but understandable for a repeat offence.

Adama is the most overhyped player I’ve seen in a long time. The way commentators spunk their pants over him doing absolutely fuck all is quite the thing.
Makes it interesting at least but they are definitely on the back foot tomorrow. They need to hope those soft runners put it in the mixer at the start so he can build a bit of a gap, the likes of Lando have usually been incredibly tame against the faster runners this season though.
That was fun, huh? Set up nicely, lots of scenarios can play out. Sorry for those that wanted a dull race.
Decent run to the first corner. My money is on Perez getting his elbows out forcefully if he is anywhere near Hamilton. But then again, he is a bit underwhelming. Verstappen's good Sim buddy just behind adds spice.
Cannot wait

The good thing about Verstappen being on pole, and having soft boots on, means at least there's very little chance of him pulling any fuckery on the first corner. He'll be miles down the road, I imagine. Championship settled by strategy and execution, it looks like. Feels to me like Max has the momentum - so it all comes down to how long those softs last, and if any of the back markers cause red flags by planting it in the wall randomly.
Sadly I won't get to watch the race, so I'll just have to use my imagination.
