Well. I hope you enjoyed the Monaco Grand Prix 2024 because that's it.
The front three can now put hards on and go to the end without stopping so we know our podium.

I was always going to switch over for the Championship play-off final so I was never going to stick with this borefest!

KMag gotta have a ban now hasn't he? Think he was already on 9pts so Bearman could be in the car in Canada.

Can't see that as anything but Magnussen's fault.

Magnussen is a grade a idiot. No chance of getting up that gap.

Wow the Alpine garage is going to be a bit feisty, what the fuck was that?

If teams are allowed to count changing tyres now as having used both compounds the only interesting aspect of the race has been removed.
If the regs say that's the procedure then so be it, but it will feel farcical to watch them conga lining round for 77 laps in formation. Can't remember if they 'fixed' this rule after that red at Monza a few years ago? Have a feeling they didn't.

Anyone who started on hards is rather fucked though.

You can still get to the end on a medium just not as fast. Given track position importance round here, I imagine the medium runner at the front of the queue will just drive to that pace and bank the result.
Any jeopardy requires there being a big enough crossover for the hards to give someone an overtaking sized advantage vs mediums of same age.

The only positive I can think of is that at least there's no reason for Leclerc to trundle around to prevent gaps so maybe we'll see 'actual' race pace round here for the first time in ages.

Who had Sky mentioning the elephant in the room on lap 13?
I thought they'd make it till at least lap 35.

Crofty just pretending there are lots of strategic options and Martin gently shutting each one down as illogical.
Only thing I can see is Norris getting a free pitstop and then having a go at passing two Ferrari's on fresher tyres just because he may as well. Beyond that I don't see why any of the top three would bother.
Otherwise there's an outside chance the Mediums drop off to the extent that Tsunoda and Albon can attack Lewis, Max and George with the benefit of their hards. Maybe just about possible to outdrag someone with knackered tyres down the pit straight.

Boo. Leclerc doing the entirely obvious and sensible thing of slowing down enough to ensure Russell catches up to shut that freebie chance for Norris down.
Sainz now doing it too. Dropping into the 1.20s to prevent any opportunity.

Ham about to have a free pit stop. Don’t trust merc strategy team to take it though.

Very good spot. Hadn't noticed that, I was preoccupied by the battle ahead of them.

It's just so frustrating to have what should be the most difficult GP of the year routinely become so easy for the drivers. They are cruising round about 6s a lap off the ultimate pace and they can just have a chat.
I wonder if Hamilton doesn't have a spare set of hards / mediums? Is he allowed to out his original starting set back on again, I can't remember whether they go to the stewards once they come off the car?
I'm amazed that Tsunoda is so slow and hasn't put any pressure on the Medium runners. I guess they are more preoccupied with preventing gaps behind to protect 8th. Stupid Grand Prix this.

Yeah it’s super frustrating to watch. Wonder if it this will be have race that will break the camels back in regard to Monaco hosting a GP.
Guess they are waiting for softs for Hamilton? Get a fastest lap point in the process.

If Hamilton pits, you'd imagine Verstappen would too at this point given there's 3s between them. He has to close up first.

So if Russell pits, then Norris will get his freebie.

I think Russell can hold him off. Just show him the outside every corner. Only way that won't work is if Max has so much more traction that he can get him on the corner exit at the end of the lap.

Hands down the worst race I've ever watched. Nullified after 1 corner. Even Indy 2005 had the novelty of Paul Stoddart going ballistic.
Get it off the calendar.

P9 Tsunoda casually banging a 14.7 and 14.5 in on 75 lap old hard tyres exposes the extent of this farce.
Pleased for Charles, he's deserved a home win for years now.
Other than that, a total waste of time. As predicted, the top 10 finished in the order of the restart and just drove around very slowly for 75 laps to maintain their positions with those outside the points unable to do anything to make dent. Crofty pretending otherwise was deeply annoying.
Why bother? It was just about worth accepting the lack of overtaking back when there was a genuinely unique element of attrition but those days are long gone. The cars are all bullet proof, and now the only sensible strategy is to go so slow that the drivers are totally comfortable physically and mentally.
It has zero sporting merit.

They might as well have just handed out the trophies and points after the red flag. Ludicrous that this event is held in such esteem because 'history'.

Technically, not as bad as that Spa "race" in 2021 but essentially just as bad. May as well have been behind a safety car.
Actually may as well call those go slow tactics doing a VVSC. Virtual virtual safety car.

I'm past the point of even making stupid theoretical suggestions of circumstantial one-off rules to somehow make the Monaco weekend palatable. It's shite and I really never want to see F1 cars go there ever again.

The Monaco grand prix exists purely for rich people to feign interest in a sport for a weekend, it's a fucking pointless waste of time and shouldn't be on the calendar.
