See Ferrari, that's how you do a special livery.
Would be an iconic moment seeing that car come home in 1st.

Always prefer the Papaya, but as a special livery it works really well. It has a proper late 80s/early 90s vibe too. And it reminds me of two eras of Jordan F1 cars.

It's nice to see that it's actually a really different livery. But of course, they really should have done a white and red McLaren Wonder if there is any Marlboro copyright or anti tobacco laws that stop them from doing that, even without any logos or wording ?

It's the worst weekend of the F1 calendar! And there's no chance of rain!
You'd have thought the red bulls should be favourites for pole with all their down force, but maybe Leclerc can do another one of his mega laps.
Hard to see this track suiting McLaren.

I dunno, If someone can plonk it on pole other than an RB we can have our Sunday lunch then grab a quick nap in front of the TV safe in the knowledge we will not miss any action. ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) *Leclerc in the barrier odds on *Started my rain dance yesterday

Fancy Ferrari this weekend. Red Bull are pretty shite over kerbs and it took a special final sector for Max to even snatch pole last year.
McLaren feel like a little bit of an unknown with the new updates. I'd usually say this track probably doesn't suit them as well as others but will be interesting to see if they can compete.
It goes without saying that the race will be absolutely terrible.

I’m glad I’ve bookmarked this thread. I almost forget that the season has even started sometimes!
Hoping for another good McLaren run, but as you folk say, this probably has Ferrari written all over it. In which case, I’m supporting Sainz this weekend!

I do like monaco, mainly for Saturday. Sunday is always dross.
Could work well as a TT event, was watching the 92 race on sky last night. Just having smaller cars make the whole thing better and not just for monaco. A drum we all keep banging.
I'm gonna bank on another norris win this weekend, maybe even some red flag shenanigans.

Monaco jumped the shark as a viable modern circuit back in 2001 when Coulthard couldn't find a way past Bernoldi despite a huge pace advantage.
It jumped about 100 sharks when Ricciardo won the actual Grand Prix without his MGU-K driving round seconds a lap off the pace.
It so long since it's actually been enjoyable. Even when I was a kid, it wasn't great, but at least in the 90s it was a genuine race of attrition and passing did happen occasionally into Sainte Devote and Mirabeau so it wasn't entirely predictable after the pit stops.
Now, we have 18 odd finishers and the cars are too wide and braking distances too short. We also have loads of street circuits so the novelty has gone. It's pointless.
I suppose you could artificially make it more interesting by mandating teams have to run all three compounds or something, but if you have to do that kind of thing, it's not really the same sport anymore.

They should switch to go karts for Monaco so there's actually a race.

The only semi-realistic option I can think of is a minimum of 2 mandatory stops to use all tyre compounds to at least create a bit of strategy/chaos in the pits.
Really it should just be a series of time trials or something but that will never happen.

They should switch to go karts for Monaco so there's actually a race. That's a brilliant idea. Otherwise I know extending the track has been looked into a few times (turn left before the tunnel instead of right) but I guess the logistics don't work. Ideally it would create at least one solid overtaking spot l. If that's not possible then a rallycross style joker lap system where everyone has to do a certain number of 'long laps' and they can choose when to take them should be by just adding one extra corner. Just have to do something to stop whoever gets out of T1 first doing the well established thing of trundling around to create a 20 car conga line with no gaps so everyone is stuck and the first stint both takes ages and is really boring.

I know we say it every year but the precision is incredible. The level in F1 is such that everyone on a fast lap brushes the apex on the right hander in the second part of the swimming pool. It's just the standard.
Had super slow replays of about 6 different drivers gently brushing the barriers there already.
That being said Leclerc appears to have found a short cut somewhere at this stage of the weekend. Hopefully he isn't about to cream it into the barriers again.

I maintain he has overall been a fair bit worse than Albon was in the second car, it's just that he's been lucky that Red Bull have been more dominant in those seasons so its been mostly inconsequential.

Piastri beating Norris again in qualifying. Well played. Didn’t think either McLaren would be up there today.

Yup although I wouldn't read too much into it. Norris was apparently impeded by Sainz on his lap (not shown on TV) and they were very even.
Seems pretty likely Sainz might get a grid penalty as he also impeded Ocon in Q2. So could be a McLaren P2-P3.
Actually the bigger trend is Russell out qualifying Hamilton. That's 7-1. Is that a sign that the car is going in Russell's direction or age?

If it wasn’t already, it’s got to be now. Russell needs to be their number one in regards to car development. And besides, Hamilton had some stunning drives in terrible McLaren cars before his move. He tends to get results out of anything he drives.

I'd argue Hamilton is probably semi checked out but his one-lap pace has shown small signs of deterioration over the ground effect era. You never really see many 'where did that come from' laps from him these days.
and Russell is genuinely good as well, especially over one lap. I think a lot of the time in F1 people will look to what the established driver is doing wrong rather than what the other guy is doing right. He just needs to stop chewing up his tyres quite as much as it will come back to bite him if they actually sort the car out and start competing at the top.

Fairly ludicrous F2 race. O'Sullivan was goal hanging for a safety car, with no hope of points otherwise and a VSC was triggered in literally the only 5s window that would have allowed him to win as it was last lap he could've legally pitted (so was coming in anyway) and it also had to happen AFTER he crossed the pit entry line as the pit gets closed with VSCs round here (presumably he'd have had an avoidable DQ'd for not stopping had it been slightly earlier). Incredible and seemingly genuine luck to see that strategy pay off.
Pretty impressive recovery for Bearman from P12 to P4 given he somehow managed to pass a few cars on track. TV managed to miss two of them but somehow getting the cutback on Antonelli on the exist of the hairpin was nuts. Worth checking out the onboard where he momentarily loses grip of the steering wheel as his arms are so crossed up hitting the lock!

Hamilton really should have gone this season. Odd that he stuck around for all concerned. Can't imagine any are very happy about it.

Not sure why McLaren didn't split strategies? Can't see the point in putting Norris on same tyres as the three cars ahead.
Surely Piastri has a great chance today simply by virtue of Ferrari's incredible capacity to shoot themselves in the foot.
