Played the first couple of missions and it seems... fine. Kind of underwhelmed to be honest. Might give another mission or two a go, but may not bother playing too much of it unless it picks up a bit.
Multiplayer is fun though. Probably not something I would rush out and buy at full price, but well worth a Game Pass sub for. Mostly just more CoD style shooting fun, but the omnidirection stuff does add a spicy twist.

I'm mixed on the campaign tbh. It's mechanically fantastic as always but the AI is still dogshit in terms of being artificially super accurate or super dense. I did the level that incorporates the series very popular mode into the campaign and while at first it was novel it got progressively worse when it introduced bullet sponge bosses in the mix. I don't think that kind of thing works in a CoD game and I'm confused as to why they thought that was a great idea. Black Ops 2 had hands down the best campaign for the Black Ops series for me I'm perplexed as to how this game has apparently had the longest development cycle out of all the modern CoD games but still has some incredibly sloppy bugs that will never be fixed as attention always goes to MP mode, case in point MW2 still has a ton of visual and audio bugs in the campaign.
I'm glad it's free and I might try the mp but what I saw last night of a streamer playing it was half this is OK and half this is chaos and some of the maps feel like they were made by someone with ADHD.

That was my 2nd favourite campaign mission so far. It takes a bit of series knowledge but lmg's completely trivialise the boss fights. Use another weapon for clearing adds as the reload is a bit long for that bit.
The heist has been my favourite level though, I thought It was excellent.

That's the thing though, boss fights shouldn't really be in a CoD. MW2 proved this. I did it first time it wasnt hard just kind of groan inducing when Isaw health bars above a head.
The level just didn't fit the tone of the game tbh, it was quite jarring and felt like the game was telling me to go play the other mode ASAP. I think their games are best when the modes stay in their own lanes. Like i said the campaign is OK and to its credit tries a lot of stuff, some stuff sticks and some doesn't.

The heist/convention levels were great and really felt very alive in a way that game environments don’t always. The castle in RE4 remake is another recent one which springs to mind.

Tried the training level and a few multiplayer matches. Did ok for no loadout of choice, or map awareness.
That new movement shit seems a bit of a waste, pretty sure I will play as usual.
Maybe get on to campaign at some point. Anyone know if warzone will involve some of this, or will that remain its own thing?

Warzone integration coming with the new movement and BO6 weapons soon. They are also getting rid of the backpack system and going back to verdansk style looting.
You may think you won't use the new movement but the aiming whilst prone and all direction sprint is a game changer.

I have enjoyed the bits of multiplayer I’ve done so far, but I actually think it isn’t as good as MW3 so far. Whilst I can’t fault how the single player looks there is something cartoony in the presentation of the multi too, which I’ve often thought with Treyarch. I’m finding the barracks and create a class/gunsmith stuff a lot less intuitive for some reason, I know it’s changed but I can’t explain well as I put Mw3 down months and months ago, so I don’t remember.
I think it will click though. Some UI tweaks to make the feedback/unlock loop more obvious wouldn’t hurt in the short term.
I will say that some of the maps are very good though.

I really like the feel of the guns and the audio feedback from landing shots. Not gone too far out of the AR's yet but the 4 I have used all feel decent and I felt competitive with all of them.
Had 25 sniper kills to do for a daily but got that done in one game and managed to get play of the game with a quad kill 😂.
Had a brief go with the tanto as well and it's quite an interesting smg as it seems to fire slow but hits really hard. If you can hit your shots it's a beast.

Played four of five mp games with my son. My idea of hell. Battlefield is about as fast paced as I like. Actually titanfall mp is incredible and that’s fast paced. Anyway apart from titan fall I’m definitely more of a hunt showdown, rainbow six kind of mp person.
Immediately on the first game my son starts lower sliding everywhere and it looked like something more like jet set radio than a military shooter.

It's an arcade shooter and has been much closer to that than a military shooter for most of its history. IW push it closer to a military shooter when they release a game but most of the player base want a fast paced high movement fps game.
Warzone 2 almost killed the game off as it was so slow paced compared to one.

Titanfall is blisssss. I loved old cod, but even then I started to like Search and Destroy more. Which is basically what Rainbow Six Siege is (probably my "main" game). But I am most in my element hiding in a bush, surveying the massive map in front of me, hunting for an enemy in the PvP in ghost recon Wildlands

I wish we could still play the single player bit of Titanfall 1. I’ve always favoured Xbox narrowly but during the infamous sports Tv Tv reveal, the footage of that absolutely sealed the deal. There is still stuff in TF1 that number 2 didn’t do as well - I’m sure the options for landing on enemy titans and shooting panels off and stuff were simplified.
Anyway…it got its hooks into me properly tonight and I bought the Battlepass upgrade only to realise it isn’t live yet lol. The maps on this are some of the most fun I’ve played in years - particularly the shopping area one, the train yard and the two desert maps I think are brilliant. I’ve dipped into mainly TDM, a little bit of Free for All and Domination. I often like a bit of Hardpoint but will want to know the maps better first. I’ll say Free for All can give a bit of a false impression of your skill - every time I played that I got a bit battered in a proper team mode.
I still think that the Barracks and class UI stuff needs a bit of work but I’m convinced I can get lots of hours of fun out of this now.
I personally think this can co-exist with the Battlefield feel, but Battlefield hasn’t had the feel it needs since 4 for me (I think I put about 200 hours into that back in the day).

I think you can play campaign still in tf1? Just go into that mode in matchmaking. I remember doing it a while back - when Tf1 was working better than TF2...

Haven't played call of duty in any form for about 4 years, Warzone included.
Grouped with some equally low level players earlier it was alot of fun. Just now having been dumped onto a lobby with very high level players, it's literally the first time I felt to old to play a game.
With Battlefield, positioning even with the latest game still plays a big role. The level of skill, muscle memory and reaction time for this I feel is almost beyond me!
I'll keep trying, it's all very well made and slick. The "play of the match" replay especially might be old news, but it's a nice touch. While also reminding me just how bad I am at the game!

Its been final kill for a while now, the play of the game always used to show some random shit. They seem to have finally worked out to show something half decent in it now.

So the mission that starts in the desert (with the SAS) how many of us (i.e. me) cleared all the icons off the map before proceeding! I expected to get cheeky cheveo but nowt popped no matter as I really enjoyed it, reminded me of the recent GR games or Gears 5 in the skiff

Re the talk of multiplayer and perhaps being "too old" to play mp. I am very much in that camp. I still played ranked Gears (daily/weekly) and will do so until I am in my box or the game is taken off live, but even with that I am unlikely to have the same eyes or reaction times to someone who is 20+ years my junior.
The only other game/game series I have ever given my time in mp is TF, especially TF1 I loved that so much, it also helped that the mode I played most, Attrition was a mix of pvp and pve. Now if I play mp at all in anything other than Gears it is likely to be some sort of Horde mode or invasion, think WD2 and SE4. I do miss the "bants" of the old days when I played more mp, still get it on Gears but most of it is just typed in chat, not the same as the screaming matches we had back in the early Gears days. Bringing it back to Blops6 I will give Zombies a go and maybe koth for a game or two, I assume it has that mode ?

In all honesty I'm old and can still compete, you just have to be smarter about how you approach fights.
SBMM will protect you anyway and the players in the lowest brackets can barely move their character let alone shoot anything.
Give it a go, stick with your team mates and let them be the one at the front until you know what you are doing.
You don't have to run around like a ninja, jumping and sliding. Holding angles and playing smart will net you just as many kills.
Just prepare to be called a camping piece of shit 😂

Not played any in this version yet, but playing Free for All on MW2 a couple of years back, I would always top the scoreboard. I put that down to playing the game a bit slower than most and not sprinting around everywhere.
When it came to team games though, I would normally be pretty middling.
Regardless though, CoD has always been balanced so that everyone can at least have some fun and get kills. You will pretty much always get the odd moment of being able to shoot someone in the back for a freebie kill without retaliation, as the time to kill is always pretty low. It's not like an old school arena shooter where the best player will never die.

I definitely can’t compete with the slide everywhere crowd but last night I was usually mid table with one of the highest kd ratios in free for all by playing it slow and usually the pretty decent audio to know when people were coming. I’ll never win ffa that was as I don’t rack up the kills quickly enough. The shotgun has such a short range compared to other shooters I play so I switched back to the m4 or what ever the starter gun is with a silencer and slowly work my way around the map killing all the noisy teenagers.

Bastards on this just kept sliding in front of me.

Quite enjoying it though I think I should up the difficulty to veteran for that old school teeth grinding I remember. On that achievement, I’m on PC and didn’t see an on-screen notification but it did ping on my Xbox mobile app. ‘Full Clear’ is the name. 15G.

I’ll play through it, and it’s fun, but the limitations are why I stopped with these sort of games- the artificial funnelling, the pestering to move forward to where the game wants you to be, the way it all falls apart if you don’t play along. Just feel spoilt by the freedom in games like Elden Ring now an this style doesn’t fit. A me thing, perfectly good fun twatting people in the head still!
