Er...
I'm kind of hoping this isn't real because if it is that's almost just sad

That just shows how awesome Diddy Kong Racing is and the desire for more 'Adventure' Kart games a la CTR and Wacky Races!

Concord now has less than 100 players
Wow, never seen a game from a 1st party publisher do this bad, I don't think even redfall did this bad after launch

imo it really showed as a game that was conceptualised 8 years ago but then never moved past that. It's been met with such indifference, even the negative press was minimal. To have the backing of a major powerhouse in the industry and not even break Battleborn's numbers at launch is dire. (Pitting it against the Diddy Kong Racing juggernaut is simply unfair)
It came across very much as playing the same notes without understanding the tune. If I recall, one of the big "hooks" was weekly cut scenes to flesh out the world and characters. Thing is, no one had any reason to give a single shit about said world and characters first. I don't think it was a lack of trying, they had animated shorts leading up to release and everything, but it was all just desperately bland. A corporate dream, a players meh

I have to imagine the player base on PS is stronger than on Steam, otherwise people just would not get into matches surely?

Destruction AllStars was psn plus game at launch and it didn't do well.
The thing is, MP games are ultra competitive for players time, getting a slice of that pie is hard

I miss having a regular multiplayer game, like a Bad Company 2 or similar.
Something I can dip into a few nights a week that isn't ever changing or requires a massive grind (or real money) to unlock anything.

The very shit title probably hasn't helped. There's been a lot of those recently. I think they might have run out

Just read that Concord may have sold around 9000 copies between both platforms and current Steam stats has it at under 100 concurrent players. That's kind of insane.

Well there you go. That's something. Sony should be putting that out there

Remember the trailer they put out for this during the State of Play a few months back and, without knowing anything about the game, the world and characters all looked kind of neat. A little like it was aping Guardians of the Galaxy or Firefly, but still very much something I would be interested in if it were a single player RPG a la Mass Effect or something more action heavy, like the Guardians game.
But then they showed actually gameplay and my interest instantly vanished.
I know that the idea is you just need that one big multiplayer hit with gazillions of MTXs to make a fortune, but hopefully publishers and developers are going to cotton onto the fact that the majority of the recent big hits have all been single player games. You would think Sony would have noticed what made the PS4 such a big seller.

I remember that trailer, I already knew what the game was when it came out and I was baffled as to why there was all this expensive trailer stuff for what was a hero shooter. Then my mind thought Overwatch and it all clicked. Unfortunately they seemed to have made characters who have none of the appeal or charisma of the characters in Overwatch.

Yep, I say the characters were neat, but really it was just the general tone was something I could see being interesting, with a sort of heist theme playing through. Can't actually recall any of the characters shown, as they were so generic.

Very generic. But yeah you're right I think a single player 3rd person action game with these characters could have done the business. But Jim Ryan was all about the GaaS and now we have a console that's barely pumped anything out and is releasing a Pro console again with nothing new to sell it.

I think a lot of pubs are making a mistake in their analysis of the GAAS space in looking at the PvP shooter audience as one homogenous thing you can capture, as opposed to having the "I only want to play Tarkov/Fortnite/Apex" crowds. The number of floating players is pretty small and shifts from the big titles need something massive to really happen. It's like the crowd who don't "play video games", they play CoD. At that point it doesn't even matter if the thing you're doing is better.
There's also just a generally dismissive attitude from "enthusiasts" at the moment in that they're not very good at actually identifying things they're looking at. In the sense of, when anything with stylised art gets announced, idiots say it "looks like Fortnite" or "looks like a Mobile game". If it's got classes in it, it "looks like an Overwatch clone", regardless of how accurate those things are. It's hard to get above that stuff.
I wonder if pubs will eventually realise that it's simply not worth the risk of doing AAA PvP GaaS. It's too much of a dice roll in general, especially if you feature any kind of non-realism visual imagination going on and people just dismiss it as Fortnite. It's only worth doing for small teams that can scale up and can survive if small if not.
Wonder if anything else is going to get Hyenas'd and canned before it even comes out. Sony still have their bloody Fairgame$ to come which I feel is another likely bomb, and Marathon which tbh I have little hope for either.

I remember the very first trailer they showed for this, even before the CG one of the characters running away and the characters oh so hilarious fixation with hot sauce. It was just CG of the interior of a ship, someone counting down and saying 'Freegunners here we go' before showing the title of the game. No gameplay, no explanation of the setting, you don't even know what game it is and that's how you first introduce it? No wonder the name's never stuck with people.

I saw a graphic showing all the heroes and it genuinely looks like some just left in placeholder models. They are so generic, like the LOREM IPSUM DOLAR of character design. Its hard to believe that one of them made it through to production much less an entire roster.

That's been a massive pet peeve of mine for a while. An expensive cg trailer that tells you nothing. I understand that a lot of it is used as a way for recruitment but I find it annoying watching these game shows and it's wall to wall with this shit. Although I do think something like the Game Awards is largely moving away from this.

You can do that if you're in an established franchise already, *maybe*.

I think so. That trailer just tells me nothing. I actually thought it was going to be space shooter thing from that.

You didn't notice the big rainbow on a reveal trailer for a hero shooter? And nothing else. Seems really on the nose to me

Even the game's logo has a flag motif. It's cynical AF

I can honestly say I did not read into it to get that assumption. Where's the flag motif on the logo? Is it a specific flag?
