Honestly think that's up there with the most iconic Olympic moments we've had as a country.
There should be memes of him impassively having an energy gel and a drink whilst the mechanics frantically replaced that tyre. He never looked less than totally confident. Just remorselessly got the job done. Even when he'd surprisingly been beaten up the last climb he just re-calibrated and made an outrageous pass on the downhill.
Maybe this is normal for Mountain Biking but I've never seen anything like it.

Every time I watch it, it seems better. Last chance saloon and somehow got his bike to the apex and got it stopped. A millisecond later or running 10cm wider and it would've taken both of them out. Inch perfect judgement. Awesome in the proper sense of the word.

Overwhelming consensus from mountain bikers is that he came out of the pass not only holding his line but also in front, it was the Frenchman who swerved in and nearly took Pidcock out if anything. Perfection by all accounts. |

Watched the Mountain Bike race live, what an effort in the last 2 laps to gun down the front 2 and then have such a tight finish was amazing to watch.

Speaking of Covid I found the US olympic trials process absolutely insane for stuff like swimming and athletics. It literally just comes down to that one event; you could set a world record and win the world champs earlier in the year, wake up with a migraine and fuck you, no olympics.
I suppose the rest of the world should probably be glad they insist on being so self defeating.
