Holy shit, that was incredible in the doubles! I don't even know how that happened. But as danno says, absolutely classic Murray narrative.

Someone said breakdancing is in? Is that real? Well as they've got dancing horses, it's only fair.

This is my 4-yearly reminder that actual adults play field hockey. I don’t know who they are or where they play it, but they do.

Looks like Murray is about to start the final set of his career. Or not - fair play to them both. “The other guy” played a huge clutch tricky volley when one of those match points down. Fair play to him for those (literal) balls.

How come apparently the pool is playing so slow? Is it built on a hill? Are they swimming in denser water? Someone needs to fix that shit.

The breast stroke final a bit of a shock result, 0.02 between top three, bonkers.

Mark Foster bringing up Marion Jones - not great PR for the movement

How come apparently the pool is playing so slow? Is it built on a hill? Are they swimming in denser water? Someone needs to fix that shit. The sychronised swimming is in a different pool so they didn’t need to make this one the usual 3m deep, a shallower pool is apparently slower

How come apparently the pool is playing so slow? Is it built on a hill? Are they swimming in denser water? Someone needs to fix that shit. I've swum competitively most of my life, and my understanding was generally it's a mix of temperature and drainage. One of the main things that affects speed is how much lateral movement of water there is in the pool as it makes the water choppier. The lane ropes are designed to absorb some of it but the more that bounces back off the sides toward the middle, the more hits the swimmers and it's "slower". Its also part of why the fastest seeds get to go in the middle lanes, those lanes get the least wave movement from other lanes so they are literally faster lanes too, while the outer lanes get the pushback from the walls more. I think deeper pools also help with the wave absorption too. IIRC in shallow pools waves also bounce off the bottom and cause more turbulence. I don't know if the physics of that is true but it always felt true to me. You'd go from swimming in the normal pool you train at to a bigger meet at a purpose built pool thats 2m+ deep and everyone is suddenly putting big PBs in.
Edit: yeah 2.15 is very shallow for an olympic pool. Typically they're 3m. 2m is the minimum iirc.

Oh well always the option of Peaty retracing as a breakdancer.
Built like a tank will be breaking more dance floors than most. Surely in with a gold shout.

Every time the commentators refer to "the Chinese" my internal monologue responds "great bunch of lads".

Those Chinese blokes were like machines, the Terminators of diving, nothing was going to stop them taking gold today.

Appreciate you were joking but when it comes to the fine motor skills, timing and mental strength required to excel in synchro diving I'm not sure what you'd even take. It's not even like shooting events where you could take a beta blocker to calm you down as you have to be alert enough to get millisecond timing right whilst not panicking. That Aussie girl demonstrated what can easily go wrong.
I am sceptical of all Chinese (and 'neutral') power and endurance athletes by association, but diving? Can only applaud.

Team gold in the Team Eventing is Team GB's first gold so that's nice, individual medal to come later perhaps?
The mountain bike course they're riding on now on BBC2 makes me shudder just looking at it, flying around that at speed looks nuts.

Pidcock reckons the course is “bland”. He seems a bit of a cunt but hope he does it

Pidcock picking up a puncture when leading. Got to recover 40s to win but apparently he can do it.

Punctures potentially fucking up two medal chances must be so frustrating to the team not just the riders themselves.

Pidcock looks so focused though. Silver looking good, just a question of whether he can get back to gold. Clearly deserves it on performance level thus far.
