Mate, if you want me to explain the various Transformers continuities and the multiple origin stories for Optimus and Megatron, just ask.
The general consensus across different versions is usually: Optimus used to be Orion Pax; him and Megatron were mates; Megatron was usually a miner or other menial worker. Although I think Orion is usually more of a clerical worker.
You're right, though, the original 80s cartoon did have an episode where some Autobots went back to time to the dawn of the war and Alpha Trion (the big old-looking guy who gives them their transformation cogs in the trailer) rebuilt Orion into Optimus.

Much as a part of me would actually enjoy seeing a Doc Brown timelines explanation chalkboard the length and breadth of a football pitch, I just went and watched that full episode on YouTube.

How come there are no women transformers? Short answer: there are. Longer answer: 80s sexism finally overcome by subsequent generations of writers.

A crossover event with the MCU thread, for those who do not partake.

This is going to be a lot of fun. Was that a giant Ant-Man I spotted?

My 10 year old was psyched when we watched this last night. I was sat there puzzling over why the fuck Pumba and Timon were there.

It's funny, The Lion King (original, obvs) is one of my favourite Disney films. My kids couldn't be less interested if they tried. Complete ambivalence.

I hadn't realised it was sort-of adapting Lion King II as well as doing a Mufasa prequel. This truly is the Godfather Part II of unnecessary CGI remakes of classic animations.

It's an independent film so it probably didn't cost that much to make, right?

Pretty sure it was over $100m of his own money. No matter how well it does, I think you could safely say that it's one of the biggest vanity projects ever made.

Apparently it features a part that requires a member of the cinema staff to read out some lines that the actors then respond to.

After finally watching the trailer I'm really not surprised that all the distributors said fuck off when Coppolla wanted a $100m marketing budget for the film.

That actually looked really, really good. I was very disappointed with Coming 2 America, and I was a bit worried that Murphy was still trying to be too serious nowadays (one of the main problems with Beverly Hills Cop 3). But this was just as anarchic as the first two, seemed really funny, and had some pretty cool action.
And Judge Reinhold!

It's a shame it's not getting a cinema release, but it's looking promising.

Beverley Hills Cop: Axel F and Bad Boys Ride or Die a month before it, it's the Summer of maverick cops.

Seems to be the year of sequels to 30 year old films.
