How does anyone even know that yet? Hasn’t it literally just released? Sega themselves putting it out there

Actually fucking incredible how good this game is, wow. I'm only eight hours in and will be shocked if this doesn't end up as my game of the year.

I have carried on from the demo and having a great time going into the dungeon further. There is a good risk/reward on using your spells that I didn't really feel in persona as I always had enough mana to do whatever. The only thing I don't love is the style of the archetypes but that's a very minor thing in the grand scheme. I'd say it's pretty similar to P4/P5 in the MP stakes. Those were always a case of see how far into the dungeon you can get each day before you run out of MP for me, and it feels like the exact same with this. I made the mistake of starting from the beginning and struggled to get through the demo content, but I'm past where I got up to in the demo now and loving some of the options that are opening up with archetypes and skill transfer. Runs nicely on PC too with the fans barely kicking in with a 60 FPS cap.

I should probably cap at 60 tbh as there is no real benefit to having it at 120. The electricity bill will help with that.

I've got VSync on, so assume that my frame rate is capped. For some reason, my Nvidia overlay refuses to show me what my FPS it is running at with this game, but it does say that it is using 80-90% of my GPU. Probably should lower the resolution scaling (150%), but no AA options, so I'm guessing it will look jagged at 100%.
Does look pretty though, even if it isn't technically advanced. Runs absolutely fine for me too.
Really enjoying it as well. Not massively beyond the demo (or what I assume is beyond the demo, at least, as I didn't finish it - just rescued some hostages and found Catherina's friend in the first real dungeon). As I mentioned before, Persona 5 ended up frustrating me as I always felt like I was being handheld to do very specific things in the 20 or so hours. It was just one long tutorial. Here the structure is similarly guided, but it doesn't feel as tutorialised and I'm not feeling as restricted.

Re: the demo. Is this portion exactly the same in the full game, then? As you can continue your save? I've only sank an hour into the demo, but I had a weird impression that it was frequently jumping forward in a sense, presumably to show different aspects of the game, though possibly that's just the way it plays out.

Yeah, the save carries over.

Yeah, the editing feels a quite off in the opening few hours. It's the same in the full game so no worries about missing anything.
It settles down a bit when you get back to town.

When you think you are going to finish the first dungeon in the city, do it with a few days to spare at least, I thought I was at a point where I only needed one day and it's put me miles back as I didn't have enough time. Lost most of today's session.

Define “lost” for me will ya? I just started the demo today. The only JRPGs I’ve played in the last 15 years were I Am Setsuna and DQ11 on the Switch. Doesn’t take much to out me off these things. Lost progress would definitely qualify. :-D

I must have been abducted by aliens! It's the only possible explanation!

You are told you have x days to do something, I foolishly left it late thinking I only needed one day as it looked like I was right at the end. I was very close but the fights leading to the end drained me too much to defeat the boss so make sure you have at least 2 days left when you think you are at the end of the tower because you will need it. It had saved but I could basically never win the fight so had to take the bad ending and get put back 5 days.
User error but it's very easily done so don't waste time fucking about thinking you have plenty of time.

You get many save slots for a reason, save often and keep many save files.

My persona senses are telling me to do any timed dungeon early.
Haven't made it all the way through the first one in one go but within sniffing distance of the boss

For the first dungeon I found there wasn't a huge amount of things to do before the deadline (apart from sitting on a bench or talking to old codgers/religious nuts), so I just dipped into it 3 times early on and got it out of the way.
Finished that earlier and then did the optional level 15ish dungeon and it's properly clicking with me now. Excellent stuff!

I went out of town for a day to do some stuff there when I should have waited on it.

I'm sure there will be "how to do as much as possible in one playthrough" guides out in a couple weeks anyway For my part (as far as the demo goes) I defeated the dragon in the mines, then did in-city stuff on day 1, took on the request of the red merchant lady on day 2 and did everything there except the boss, then went back and finished off the boss on day 3. Short of maybe figuring out a way to do the last bit on day 2 as well instead of having to regroup, I don't think there's anything I would have done differently, but we'll see...

anyone else playing this on Hard mode? it's totally kicking my arse and I love it. they gave the enemies an extra press turn every round which can be brutal (especially the bosses) and if you mistime a dodge and get ambushed you get absolutely wrecked
took me 4 days to get through the first dungeon in the city as I keep running out of MP

The closest I've come to Persona before this was Tokyo Mirage Sessions, so I cried uncle (I'm still on Normal, IIRC the second highest difficulty available -in the demo at least-, though)

Played the first couple hours of the demo and liked it a lot, having bounced off P5 twice. I think the fantasy setting might appeal to me more, and the opening is heaps more direct at setting up the story, your mission, a clear antagonist, etc. More traditional, and perhaps cliched, but its clicking with me in a way that P5 just never did. Wish they'd put as much effort into their level design as they do with their menu and enemy designs though, this doesn't seem to have evolved very far past those bare rectangular hallways that I hated in P5... But anyway, yeah I'm sold and will definitely buy this at some point.

Started the demo over the weekend too. Not quite sure what to think yet. I wasn’t expecting it to be quite such a blatant “Persona but fantasy” game. It even has the long warbling velvet room sections to skip through as quickly as possible.
Not 100% sold on the overarching story setup. The humans and glimpses of modern worlds feels a bit naff even if I don’t exactly know what they’re going to do with it
Combat is enjoyably familiar though.

Just got my fourth party member who sounds more than a wee bit like Tom Hardy's Bane, except you can actually understand him. Also had to laugh at the "get to the anus!" quest objective shortly beforehand. Absolutely loving it now that it's starting to open up a bit.

I'm not quite that far yet but I'm loving it as well. I get genuinely excited to try a new archetype out when I get one, although one of them will bankrupt me if I dont stop using it 😂

Think it does a really good job of establishing a clear goal, setting, central antagonist right from within the first few hours unlike Persona. Playing on Hard mode too is generally OK if you've the upper hand going into a fight but if you're ambushed you can be in trouble. Some of these harder bosses is actually making me resort to using items in order to exploit an enemy weakness to get another turn to do something else, which isn't really the case in Persona where you could have a lot of options covered already. Even the Grand Cathedral dungeon is a bit more involved, secret passages and such. The game's great, can't stop playing. But I guess any JRPG is until you reach that 60 hr mark or so. Just hope the story can keep up, but so far so good.

Just playing the demo and got the part in the mines with the Human protecting the big crystal, in 2 turns he virtually wiped out my whole team with hits of 130 on the whole team each time, is this a hard battle or am I missing something?

If it's the fight I'm thinking of (the one that teaches you the importance of switching your characters from the frontline to the backline), its big telegraphed attack only hits the frontline. Move your characters to the back and they won't get hit at all, and the rest of its attacks are more manageable.

Yeah it did say something about that, cheers. Didn’t realise you could move the whole team back and the attack wouldn’t do any damage
There seems quite a bit of strategy to the combat then?

Classic Persona, honestly. Even having barely played the series myself, I know that targeting opponents' weaknesses and avoiding their resistances and immunities (and conversely, making sure the opponents can't strike yours) is enormously more important than just taking a bit more/suffering a bit less damage, like in your typical RPG. Then in this one there's knowing when to pass the turn to another party member rather than use it up needlessly, calculating your turns to potentially take a full action when there's only a half action remaining, avoiding having dead party members like the plague because the fewer party members you have alive the fewer actions you can take (and likewise finishing off enemies is usually better than spreading out the damage because it cuts into their actions)...

Being able to choose each party member's archetype definitely opens things up a lot more than Persona, where I was normally constrained by my harem party. I only really switched out party members there for specific tough fights, but in this I'll switch stuff around as soon as I see a goblin.
Get the healer to rank 10 asap when you unlock it btw.
