Had a go on this. Played on PC and I seem to be fortunate with performance. My Nvidia performance overlay was having one of those moments where it decides to not give FPS info, but I'm sure any dips would have been noticeable, as you can sprint around very quickly and it all appeared super silky. So, worth giving it a go to see if you are lucky if you are hesitating on the PC version.
Really like what I've played so far. The world doesn't seem to be hugely unique, but I've liked what I've seen so far. The story has plenty of intrigue and I was almost immediately engaged with what was going on. The animé cutscenes also looking fantastic. Perhaps not quite as good as those in that game that Studio Ghibli were involved with, but not far off.
Gameplay has been good so far. Recognisably from the Persona devs, but with a few unique twists. I really like that you can take out weaker enemies quickly without going into the turn-based combat. Not sure if I missed it, but there didn't seem to be a way to control allies, but maybe there will be direction you can give them as he game goes on.
Just outside the mines. Half thinking I might stop there as I'm definitely going to get this. Think I saw it for only £35 on CD Keys.

Yeah, you get to start giving directions to allies soon. I reckon I'll start again when the full game arrives. The English VO seems decent, so I'd rather start over with that. Plus I poured loads of points into STR when it seems like Mage is a great choice for your character (tops up MP when you kill mobs)

The optional fight in the mines was extremely fun to me. The game gives you all the tools you need at that point to win the fight, it's just a challenge to do so. But if you make good use of the press turn system, offensive items and changing formations when needed, it can be done and the reward is worth it.
Has any other modern turn based RPG had the retry battle option? I think that alone is the smartest quality of life feature to have in a while, saves the process of having to reload and travel back to the fight. Completely invested, 6 hrs into the demo and not even finished. I wanna say DQXI's was longer yet, but it's incredibly generous still and perhaps further testament to the idea that this is going to be as long as P5 as the devs claim. Day One.

I thought the optional fight in the mines was surprisingly easy, at least on normal difficulty. I got a bit lucky I suppose in that I'd just switched the Archetype of my main to one that wasn't weak to the enemy's main attack. The press turn system is the bit I'm not fully convinced by, it seems like one of those systems where having the right party setup is the most crucial part, so unless it unlocks mid-battle Archetype and character switching at some point I can see a lot of trial-and-error and reloading being used.
Apart from a bit of excessive loading, it runs and looks fine on PS4 though, which is nice.

Has any other modern turn based RPG had the retry battle option? The Mario & Luigi series started having it after a point (or at least Dream Team did, I'm not sure about Paper Jam or the upcoming Brothership). The Thousand Year Door remake added it as well. And I'm sure there's more that I can't recall right now or just haven't played. And outside of turn-based there's action RPGs like Kingdom Hearts that have had it for a while, Xenoblade 3 definitely did and maybe others in the series as well... It's a fantastic QoL option to have and it's great that it's present here, don't get me wrong, just maybe not as rare as one might think

Dipped into it on Steam Deck portable and I'm a little torn now. Performance is all over the place even at 40, but a relatively locked 30 seems feasible, possibly higher if there's an incoming patch.
Suppose I could always just play the Xbox version with Greenlight if I want to grind in bed (ooer!) I wish they'd hurry up and allow cloud streaming for any digital game you own on Xbox.

Famitsu gave it 9/9/10/9 [37/40]
No idea when regular review embargo breaks.

10/10 from GameSpot, and 9/10 from IGN. Metacritic scores: 94 (PS5), 93 (Xbox), 90 (PC).

Can't bloody wait to get stuck in. Fingers crossed my random eBay deal doesn't let me down! (couldn't say no to £38)
Feels like a good month for games... Utterly spoilt for choice.

From the old places RPS - www.rockpapershotgun.com/metaphor-refantazio-reviewEG - www.eurogamer.net/metaphor-refantazio-reviewFrom a glance at the opening paragraphs RPS say it might be the best Persona/Persona-like, but does the reviewer missed the high-school setting. EG have given it a 5-stars. Yeah, pretty hyped for this. I played a bit of Persona 5, but drifted away due to the extreme hand holding that was lasting for hours (I played 20 hours or so and still felt like I wasn't let off the leash). The greater focus on story and less repetition mentioned by RPS sounds ideal.

Damn it really is that time of year when multiple unmissable games all get released within a few weeks of each other.

Glad I picked this up cheap on cd keys as a punt now. Going to take me months to finish as there are so many games out before then end of the year.

I tried the demo on the laptop and performance was... lacking. So i tried on the desktop, it ran much better, but suddenly the audio card started making a buzzing noise, and it remained until reboot. That never happened before and it's not happened again since. I dunno, maybe it was unrelated, but I decided to not bother with the PC version.
Guess I can give it a try on Series S, knowing that if I do choose to buy it, the game won't be cheap before a long while.

I get a rock solid 120 at all times. It seems to either run well or like shit on pc and specs dont seem to be the cause.

Played some of the demo (50 gig prologue demo!) and I really like it but ended up not playing the demo as when I get the game. I went to start from the beginning as it might be months before I get the game. Also the main character looks like the persona 3 main character (i know they like to reuse their designs after going from 5 to 3 remake
Also the name of the game is dumb

Even Metaphor on its own is a bit of a crap title. The full thing just feels embarrassing to say out loud. Performance isn't looking too good. Needing to play the PS4 version on PS5 if you want a solid framerate is poor form for a game that looks as basic as this. www.eurogamer.net/digitalfoundry-2024-metaphor-refantazio-a-sublime-game-let-down-by-bizarre-technical-choicesDidn't notice anything too bad on my demo playthrough on SX, but I guess VRR was doing some heavy lifting. Tempted to cancel my physical order and buy digi instead as apparently it's a play anywhere title.

Yeah, saw a bit of the video last night and even on youTube the drops looked noticeable.
Glad I went with the PC version, as sounds like they have sorted out the issues there (and I didn't have any issues on my system with the demo).
Good timing for release, as I decided I need some time off work, so booked a long weekend. Suspect much of it will be filled with this.

I'm loving this but it's an absolute fucker of a game to play in my morning slot. The way the save system is done I have to hope I hit a save point before needing to get ready for work 😂.
Was getting stressed this morning and found one when I was only 5 mins later than usual to get ready. Maybe I should have gone for the Xbox version so I could sleep it rather than the pc one.

Try using hibernate. I actually used it for the demo and it kept the place with no issues.

It does have auto saves, you might want to check in the Load menu to see if it's been done recently. I haven't explored how it works though.

I can't as the Mrs uses the pc across the day. I will look into the auto saves, I did die earlier and it loaded close to where I was so it might not be too bad.

Oh, tomorrow! I had it in my head it was today. Was just about to ask did anyone know when CD Keys would be likely to update with the key.
Do we know if there is a specific time or is it likely to be midnight this evening?
Still have some of the demo, as I stopped when I reached the cave. Was planning to play that whilst it was downloading.

There is loads after the cave, you may as well carry on.

Yeah, the cave is pretty lengthy and then a hefty chunk of story and exploring after that. Still a decent amount left to keep you going today if you don't get the key.
I found in the past that cdkeys don't always seem to send an email when the code is ready, so just open the page and refresh that a few times throughout the day. Doesn't seem to be any kind of consistency on when they arrive. It'll be at some point today or tomorrow.

Game has already sold 1m copies, breaking Atlus own fastest to 1m sales record set earlier in the year by P3 Remake. Not bad considering it's a new ip with a weird af title

How does anyone even know that yet? Hasn’t it literally just released? Preorders help, and it technically has been ~14 hours (assuming we consider midnight of 10/11 the exact release time). Enough time for someone dedicated enough to get some data

I have carried on from the demo and having a great time going into the dungeon further. There is a good risk/reward on using your spells that I didn't really feel in persona as I always had enough mana to do whatever.
The only thing I don't love is the style of the archetypes but that's a very minor thing in the grand scheme.
