Fightincowboy seems to like it:
In other words and going by the review scores so far, Stellar Blade is... stellar?!?

This review is kinda what my expectations of it were based on the demo. I still don't think combat was all that even with the boss challenge and a fully upgraded character but guess we'll see. More reviews say the story is unbeliebvably boring too. Still, quite a lot of good reviews for it, not enough to change my opinion on getting it day one, but I'd like to play once my backlog clears up and it drops in price. All those bloody woke Western journalists trying to bring down the game by...showering it with high review scores. Watch the discussion now become "See, everyone loves non woke games!"

Props to her for making a living and owning her sexuality but I wonder if she is proud of the finished product and her portrayed character being as good as naked in a skin suit for no real reason (other then thinly veiled "explanations")... Not really empowering young women in a positive manor unfortunately. It's the old saying, if you've got it, flaunt it. This is absolutely nothing new. Marilyn Monroe, Jane Fonda, Cleopatra, Angelina Jolie, Dolly Parton, Jennifer Lawrence, Jordan, Jodie Kidd, Spice Girls, Lara Croft, Helen Mirren, the list goes on and on. How dare they show some side boob, cleavage or the whole boob. Skin suits are hardly new either. I want Terminator banned, Arnie gets his arse out, he's not empowering men very well is he? I don't want to see David Beckham in a calendar wearing a pair of pants. Lets ban male naked torsos, chop penises off statues. Get rid of Gustav Klimt, Botecelli, Michelangelo. Cover ye selves up, god is watching. You may as well say she is thick as mince because she got mo-capped in a bra. Don't venture near a seaside when it's hot outside, you may lose your mind completely. But "men" gamers must make a stand and ban this filth. Do you have any kids? Any daughters? Do you want me to tell you what happens when I tell my daughter not to wear what she wants to wear because hicksy thinks it is not empowering women? Get a fuckin grip of yourself. You know there are a few countries in the world where you wouldn't see such filth, eg, Iran, Afghanistan. Err that was a totally normal rant.

How long do you reckon it'll be before the price drops meaningfully?
Rise of the Ronin - Sony's most recent third-party PS5 exclusive - is still £60-ish everywhere I've looked, a month after launch.
Just trying to decide how to proceed on this front myself! I have £15 worth of Amazon promotional credit burning a hole in my pocket, so I can use that and tell myself I only paid £55; still, I know I could spend the £15 on something else, so it's not really a discount in any actual sense.

In a totally selfish way, I expect you to purchase this some time soon, so we can have your wonderful review once you finish it
If you can finish this with one hand, that is

I'm surprised the reviews are so positive, although I'm not hugely familiar with those places that have been listed, besides IGN that is more inline with what I expected the game to score.
Still don't think I'll be picking it up any time soon, but I'm more interested in reading the reviews. If they hold up with the score I could see me getting it when it drops in price to a sub £50 point (or it comes to PC and I get it in 50% Steam sale).

It just looks incredibly unoriginal. I know what you mean, once you've seen a half naked lady, you've seen them all
Just pulling your leg, it does look kind of bland (as far as the demo is concerned); perhaps the combat is its saving grace (goes to Vandelay as well).

The very positive reviews have definitely piqued my interest, not that it takes much. I may give the demo a go. I still think I'll feel a bit grubby for playing it. But we'll see, I guess!
The argument of well she's a woman she can where what she wants makes absolutely no sense given she's literally wearing what a bunch of probably entirely normal and not creepy men have designed and chosen for her to wear.
Of course actual real life women can do what they like and be pilloried for it.
Would I want my son playing this? No, he's 6, are you nuts? Would I want my partner to see me playing this? No, not really. Would I want everyone at work to see me jerking off in the privacy of my own home? Err not sure where I'm going with that.
I do think it's funny that the red pill'ers predicted the woke lib tard media would have a field day with this and as expected absolutely no one gives a shit.

Yeah, combat sounds decent but with the absolute plethora of amazing games out (and in my backlog) I'm finding I need to be more selective the older I get. I still haven't started Super Mario Wonder, Bayonetta 3, Pikmin 4 or Dragon's Dogma 2 and I'm in the middle of Cyberpunk and Baldur's Gate 3! We're absolutely spoiled nowadays - if only I was 11 again with unlimited time and zero responsibility

You do wonder how stuff like this gets past localisation. Sony already promised to patch it out day one. Wonder if the usually will cry about censorship and restricting artistic freedom.

It just looks incredibly unoriginal.
From everything I've played, seen, and read, Stellar Blade is incredibly unoriginal.
It wants to be Nier so badly, it's one step away from rooting through Nier's dustbins under cover of night; the rest of the formula seems to have come from Sekiro, with its emphasis upon parry-heavy combat (especially in the sense of needing to parry multiple attacks in swift succession).
Sekiro is my favourite game ever, and Automata is in third place, so *in principle* this is a dream come true for me.
In reality, of course, it's not that straightforward - for starters, the game's nowhere near as incredible as the 'Sekiro + Nier' comparison makes it sound, the fanservice is cringeworthy, and I think Sony's taking the piss with a £70 price-tag.
On the other hand, this is the developer's first game of this type and on this sort of scale, so perhaps allowances ought to be made for some of the above.
TL;DR - I dunno. I'm just thinking out loud, to be honest

We'll just ignore the irony about telling people to "get a fucking grip". It wouldn't be a rant without some deluded anger. I'll admit I'm in a bit of a bad mental state at the moment but I also can't understand the outcry of a fictional character in a nude suit.

I do think on a wider discussion, it is a good example of the Korean dev space being able to move away famously from money hungry mobile gacha pay 2 win games to offering AAA single player games of quality and depth. This is generally well received, Lies of P was in the discussion for GOTY last year, myself included and with other games on the horizon too. Will be interesting to see what other games coming from that region garner as much budget and interest.

4/5 from The Old Place. (The Other Old Place hasn't reviewed the game, presumably because it's not on PC yet.)

Maybe I'm just showing my age but hard-R to me was only something concerned with movie ratings in that a film wasn't just R-rated in the US but was one that wasn't even close to being a PG-13 due to its content. It's use as a term for that other word had completely passed me by.

It seems that, like lies of p, while it doesn’t have an original thought in its head, it’s getting lots praise for being a fully featured, well polished product. Weird, I know.

There was quite a funny LTT video where Linus goes on about how he used to drop ‘the hard R’ all the time when he was younger while online gaming. His co-host looks on absolutely horrified before he realises Linus thinks it means ‘retard’ and basically saves the business by clarifying it for him.

The way he said it so nonchalantly and his co-host has a look on his face that says our careers are over.

I think I first heard of "hard r" after Larry Wilmore's appearance at the White House Correspondents' Dinner in 2016 - conservatives pretended to be outraged, and Wilmore (or his supporters) made the distinction between 'hard' and 'soft'.
That led me onto the Paul Dawson video, if anyone remembers it, plus the Boondocks parody thereof.
I half-expected the Stellar Blade subreddit to be awash with cries of "censorship!", but there's no reference at all to the story insofar as I can see. Guess they already have their hands full.

But yeah, it's actually kind of refreshing to me that, after a swathe of "how dare those woke developers put a pronoun choice in my game, why does my fantasy viking game have black people in it" shitstorms, we are finally back to arguing about boobs in games. It's quaint, almost nostalgic, like I'm back in the 90s arguing with people who tug it to Lara Croft.
