The EG review is good, very complimentary about the whole thing, while addressing the ickiness and nastiness around the discourse. I'd actually forgotten that the whole controversy was around it being a victory over having 'ugly' aka normal looking women in games. It's so fucking gross, and honestly this is the exact kind of game that feeds that view.

Yeah I don't really care if people want to wank over a videogame character but the fact that it was all wrapped up in this "best game ever" "saving the industry" because it had a character that wasn't an "ugly Western woman". It's all honestly depressing and I can't wait to see which game will be the next lightning rod for, let's be honest here, virgins with anime profiles on the Twitter accounts.

It's funny seeing tweets from reviewers like "I really enjoyed this game, combats fun and rewarding, looks great, really great game even with some flaws" and then seeing quite a few comments is talking about woke game journalists that want to turn straight men gay. Very normal behaviour. Apparently not giving the game a 10 because of Eves design alone means you should be subject to trolling about you personally rather than talk about the good and bad like adults. Very cool. All for a game they themselves haven't played because it's not out yet btw People been hyping up for months that this game would get slammed by reviewers for this reason, so when it comes out to a majority of high 80's and low 90's scores they don't know what to do other than hyper fixate on a few outlier reviews and project it as the majority. It's insane, can't win. They would have been aaaaaaaall over the boobs in Unicorn Overlord, but I guess strategy RPGs are more niche than this kind of thing. 13 Sentinels has a narrative reason why the protaganists have to be naked in the mech cockpits (honest). It's one of the best games ever yet still dicey considering the cast are teenagers. |

The fact that some poor sods found their hill to die on, on Eve's T&A design says more about the divisive state of our western (I would guess) society than anything else...

I suppose you could argue that we're not being forced to play a character like that, wheras there's no choice of protagonist in Stellar Blade. So basically at the risk of being labelled more of a twat than I am I don't see why everyone just can't shut up about it all and accept it all for what it is. If it makes you feel icky, don't play it, if you're fine with it, then play it.

Yeah that's why I said they were intended to be designed like that. Hence a man's idea of the ideal woman. Sure, game creation, you can create your ideal woman, but again I suspect the people who are running around with big tiddys and nude, are.. men. Again I never said I have a problem with people playing these, but as long as you don't go defending the character design choice, as being progressive or it's the woman's choice. Because it isn't. The thing is though on the flipside, you get a backlash of how Abby was designed, and Star Wars Outlaws. How they are UGLY. It's utterly bizzare how much misogyny there is within gaming. |
