I suppose with any culture war, nerd rage, for the developer it is all good. More discourse means more sales. We are all discussing it here, for instance. I played the demo and it was surprisingly decent, it's no Elden Ring but I quite liked the slickness(framerate) to it all and the game world was interesting enough, some good effects. As soon as I started playing it, I didn't once think of the jiggle physics, nor care about it. I was more worried about remembering combo button presses, dodges and the like.
I'm not going to be buying it though for £70. Maybe £40 but more than likely I will wait until it is on PSN unless it reviews extremely well. I'd probably end up buying Rise of the Ronin first which by all accounts is good but not great.
Anyways, I'm grumpy this morning.

Ulythium Well, I can help you there. Press ALT and either Tilde, or ALT and e. Then input the letter you wish the accent over. Yòú séè?
This has nothing to do with Stellar Blade so to make my point relevant allow me to add:

The strongest opinion I've seen from the other perspective is some Kotaku writer saying the game appeals to unwashed incels and anyone that likes it should be investigated as the character looks underage.
I admit, this had totally passed me by.
If it (and anything similar, of which I remain unaware) is what gibroon and Reviewer meant by their comments, that's my bad - I had no idea that anyone had bothered to respond to the 'Yay, boobies!' brigade, who seemed to be fighting their little war all by themselves.
Oh, and I agree that the, "anyone that likes it should be investigated" sentiment is utterly cringeworthy.

I haven’t looked too hard but I’m pretty sure that isn’t what under 16s look like.

I think this is what people in the business call exaggeration for engagement. But also remember that it's an American publication so they view anyone under 21 as underage. I'm surprised more people don't talk about the fact the developers used the scanned face of a Korean model but then stuck it onto a cartoonish sex doll body that has no place in reality.

About that... gamerant.com/stellar-blade-model-shin-jae-eun/It's apparently the body that's a scan, not the face. And it's closer to reality than you might think...

So they used her body as a reference then made it even more comically proportioned and stuck a porcelain doll's head on it.

They have absolutely insane beauty standards over there which would be viewed as really unhealthy in most of the rest of the world.

Props to her for making a living and owning her sexuality but I wonder if she is proud of the finished product and her portrayed character being as good as naked in a skin suit for no real reason (other then thinly veiled "explanations")...
Not really empowering young women in a positive manor unfortunately.

I finally tried the demo the other day and was a bit underwhelmed, I found the combat pretty unsatisfying and - at least the section I played - more platforming than I expected and it didn't feel that great.
As for the T&A it was basically a Korean Bayonetta? In an era where actual nudity is not that rare any more I do not see the big deal at all. But I did only play for about an hour and a half.

The default look is one thing but it's the other costumes she gets that shows more skin which is what is driving people mad for the game.

Not really empowering young women in a positive manor unfortunately. It's the old saying, if you've got it, flaunt it. This is absolutely nothing new. Marilyn Monroe, Jane Fonda, Cleopatra, Angelina Jolie, Dolly Parton, Jennifer Lawrence, Jordan, Jodie Kidd, Spice Girls, Lara Croft, Helen Mirren, the list goes on and on. How dare they show some side boob, cleavage or the whole boob. Skin suits are hardly new either. I want Terminator banned, Arnie gets his arse out, he's not empowering men very well is he? I don't want to see David Beckham in a calendar wearing a pair of pants. Lets ban male naked torsos, chop penises off statues. Get rid of Gustav Klimt, Botecelli, Michelangelo. Cover ye selves up, god is watching. You may as well say she is thick as mince because she got mo-capped in a bra. Don't venture near a seaside when it's hot outside, you may lose your mind completely. But "men" gamers must make a stand and ban this filth. Do you have any kids? Any daughters? Do you want me to tell you what happens when I tell my daughter not to wear what she wants to wear because hicksy thinks it is not empowering women? Get a fuckin grip of yourself. You know there are a few countries in the world where you wouldn't see such filth, eg, Iran, Afghanistan.

Pretty much what we expected, I think (although the Push Square review was admittedly less fulsome than I'd anticipated). FightinCowboy's video seems very positive, although I haven't watched it yet; no word from Skill Up so far.
No Eurogamer article yet - maybe Edwin's thumbing through his thesaurus to find an arcane synonym for "boobies."

Gibroon I have no issue whatsoever with any lady/woman/girl doing whatever she wants with her body. It is her choice and she should be respected for it. When it becomes mass media (and in a digital form that is primarily marketed to younger age groups) that is when I question it. Apologies if my comments incensed you. I won't be commenting in this thread further.
And me liking your thread is not ironic. I respect you for being open and honest.

I can see what hicksy is trying to say. Women have had a bum deal for a long time to be respected in the industry and I think in recent times, that they don't have to lower/show themselves as sexual objects, for the desire of men. That's the key point in this really. It kind of goes back to that old trope of it's a man's image of what a woman should look like.

And if you're bringing in a naked man's half into this conversation, that is completely different to seeing some tiddys from a woman. Women have got more of a sexualised body than men. Hence the curves, nips etc.

At the risk of jumping into this discussion and getting myself all lathered up in it. Is it a man's version of what a women should look like, or is it the perceived "ideal" of what a woman should look like? In the same way that many male characters since, well, forever, have been shirtless musclebound behemoths with pecs on their pecs.
