I know the Walsh's are not everyone's cup of tea but I did glol when Bradley turned around to interview Bionic's chest.

Bring back Atlaspheres, I say. It’s almost weird having gladiators without it. I’m assuming it’s either an expensive round to produce or they have less floor space to play with now…
Powerball and The Ring are basically the same game anyway, so one of those should go.

Might be something new they're saving for series 2.

It'd be good if they can get a bigger place to film in, the 90s version was mostly filmed in the Birmingham national indoor arena which is how they had room for that suspended scalextric round and the hamster balls.

I had forgotten a lot of the original events, now remember Pendulum being a lot of fun to watch, as was Swingshot. Don't remember Joust though... www.gladiatorstv.com/events/The Edge is a genuinely brilliant addition, love that one.

If you haven't seen it, the documentary on Netflix about American Gladiators is well worth a watch. It's funny just how much making it up as they went along there was, before it was sold all over the world as a finished product. And the amount of serious injuries was crazy.

Leg End is definitely the boss for bants. Master of keeping a straight face!
Nitro on the climbing wall very impressive too! Fury for her rugby tackles bosses it too.
Snake guy… pointless!

I might campaign for Powerball to be brought in as an Olympic sport. Bloody love it!

I do like Leg End's various excuses he comes out with.
It's werid how some gladiators are barely in it though. I have no idea how it's filmed, and presume it's just down to a general availability thing?

I'd forgotten how many events the original had, though I don't remember some from that page at all. It makes the new one seem a bit lacking though The Edge is a great addition.

I can't have seen some of the last series as I didn't recognise a few of them, they started with a core handful though and added more and more, so hopefully we'll get a few more in future series.
As long as they don't add clangers like Danger Zone (terrible shooting game).

It used to be at the NEC but it’s a much smaller arena now. We will probably get darts or Connect 4 or

It sounds like the whole series was filmed in a two week period, which is quite intense when you have to consider the set up involved. It's also a short time frame to develop your character for the gladiators.
There's definitely a sense of proof of concept about this first series, hopefully it's success will allow more time for filming.

The Wall is also a genuinely exciting event imo. But yeah The Edge is excellent.
My kids adore it and it’s a lot of fun. Legend is popular in this house too although that whole “my rabbit just died” bit was weird.

Also it would be good to have some male Gladiators who are smaller but super agile - parkour types for things like the Wall or The Edge. Then you could also have a kind of “tag” event where the contestants have to avoid getting tagged for 30 secs or something. In fact classic bulldog would be good as well.
I’d still keep Gauntlet for season 2 though as the episode where that dude got hit so hard he did a backwards roll still makes me chuckle.

Yeah they banned pyramid because of the amount of injuries..
What was the game that looked like upside down scaletrix on the ceiling? Used to leave that one as a kid.
I actually saw this series live in Sheffield and would encourage everyone to do it if there's a season 2 - they managed to change games really quickly and the Gladiators do some great stuff with the kids in the crowd to keep everyone entertained whilst doing it.
As others say, the only issue I have is the painfully scripted comedy of the Walsh's. Bizarrely they were much more fun and down to earth when the cameras weren't rolling and they were keeping the audience entertained.
Really wanted Cheung to go through - seems like such a top guy. Bring him back if there's a Season 2!

Nice! How many episodes did they film back-to-back?

As far as I know they filmed the whole series in two-three weeks at Sheffield Arena.
Should've been clearer - I only saw one episode being filmed but they filmed the whole thing in around 4 hours.

Bring him back if there's a Season 2! Oh interesting! I guess quick game changeovers really help with keeping filming costs down. Back in the NEC days that’s where the cheerleaders would come out and pull kids from the crowd to dance with them. The scalextric game in particular took forever to get going. To be fair you really don’t want to have a loose harness on that one. I remember being annoyed that they didn’t play The Wall on the day I was there, especially when you could see the wall was right there and waiting to be climbed. Also we got Joust, which was a poor cousin to Duel. Will put in a shout for that bungee game (Pole Axe?) as that was different enough to be interesting. Although on my taping Saracen got injured during it and had to be replaced by Wolf - who was a more interesting Gladiator anyway so silver linings.

Want to know something quite annoying that you'll now not unsee?
There's two walls and they only ever use one of them!

Are you sure? Is it not one for the women and one for the men? I’m not certain but that’s what I always assumed.

Yep you're right, just checked.

Yeah they banned pyramid because of the amount of injuries.. Talking of injuries, my kids were asking where Comet went this series so I had to find out... turns out she smashed her ankle to bits during an event in the early rounds, so bad they couldn't show it (I assume they re-did the event with a different Gladiator).
I enjoy The Edge like others have mentioned here, but a couple of times the contestant has landed so fucking close to the edge of the net that my stomach has turned. Also the threat of an 16 stone lump of pure muscle landing on top of you, regardless of the massive slack in the netting.

I thought it's a bit silly having so many replacements get to the final. Obviously can't help injuries..

Wesley coming in as a replacement at the quarter final stage has to be one of the strangest decisions in a competitive tournament TV show ever. It turns out Wesley's great, but it was presented as if this is what logically happens when a contender is injured, and then they just bring back other contenders when it happened again.
I'd appreciate it more if they just went "we tried phoning up the fastest runner ups, but it went to voicemail, so here's a guy from backstage who we saw running up the wrong way up an escalator, it's Wesley!"
