To stop this from taking over the what are you watching thread.
I'm liking how silly this show is getting. The gladiator's are really getting into talking bollocks after each round, the referee decisions are almost always bizarre, none of the competitors have got through in a conventional way... It's just properly goofy.

I was on the verge of creating a thread, but my title would have been “I’m Glad He Ate Us”, so prob for the best you beat me to it.
Have to agree 100% - if it were a legit sporting competition people would be up in arms, but it does make it fun.
There are some very strange goings on though. Like how the red female contender effectively just said “cba” right at the end of the eliminator. You could see her start her second run, but once she saw her opponent had caught up she just waved it off and gave up.

Kerry said herself she went too hard on the first half of the eliminator and had nothing left for the travellator. She didn't really need to, but I guess because she had no head start she probably felt she needed to go harder.
Same thing happened to Matt although I suspect he'd also not had much chance to warm up either.

I’m guessing it’s the cargo net that actually messes you up.
The other thing is, as I can attest to having been at a taping at the NEC back in the day, is that each event takes forever to set up. It’s a long day and I can imagine how hard it is for contenders to stay warmed up and limber for each event. It might explain the injuries too.

Serious amount of injuries though. Off the top of my head: Gladiators: Comet (barely in the show at all as it was early) Sabre (going to miss the final)  Contenders: Finlay (not Finley) Dev Chung Also Finley had a minor injury and forfeited a round because of it. The culprits seem to be The Edge and The Ring, as both are very physical have risk of heavy contacts. |

Yeah Gauntlet is crap. It’s a good concept, executed poorly.
I wanted either OG Finlay, Dev or Chung to win for the blokes. I must be cursed.
It’s a bit bonkers this bringing back people that have lost multiple times as stand ins. Matt didn’t even win a heat did he? It should have been a QF loser if anything. Although that opens up the spectre of Betti 15 - the Re-awkwarding.
The men’s final is a runner-up
who was gifted a QF place against somebody that was gifted the same after not even competing I think (do like Wesley though).
Astonished with Kerry, thought from the start she would win it. At least I don’t have to watch that ‘smell the fart’ face between events from her anymore, but yeah by far the best female competitor IMO. Fully expect the firefighter to win now, and Finley for the blokes.
Will really miss this after next week.

It’s weird how some of the Galdiators are way more into their gimmicks than others. Diamond has to fit in a diamond-based pun into every interview she does and the way Sabre is going she’ll be communicating entirely with miaows next series. And yet Fury is like “I don’t want people to be scared of me, I’m a lovely person…”

This show is a real guilty pleasure. Me and the mrs love watching it. I do like it when we get more fighting talk from the gladiators. Perpetually nice Apollo had a great victory rant last night. Even Nitro had a bit of a strop. Great stuff.

I think I prefer Fury over Sabre. Fury seems to be a genuinely nice person. Either one would kick the shit out of me mind you.
Which eh…wouldn’t necessarily be unpleasant.
The mrs is a bit obsessed with Legend. Find him quite amusing myself actually.

And of course Wolf was the baddie but the most entertaining. I remember all the challenges, the hosts, the referee etc but only those three gladiators. |

Fury's my fave, although Sabre does make me feel a bit funny. But hell I wouldn't say no to Nitro or Apollo either.
Legend is the MVP though, he led the way for the others to flesh themselves out.
Viper is also good, I'm quite used to him being a bit useless now and his instagrams are actually quite funny.
Fury was a bit of an outlier in last night's episode, almost everyone else was really getting into being a bit of a dick, but she was getting worried that people thought she was mean.

Wtf happened with Duel? Giant clearly put his hands down to stop himself falling over.
Gauntlet is completely pointless, I think there's only been a couple of contenders that didn't get through in the whole series.
It was nice to get a 2nd chance to see Matt's comedy running style though, I don't think I've ever seen anyone's legs go so fast while basically running on the spot.
If they do another series I hope they get different presenters, I'm a bit bored of the Walsh's forced banter.

The ref is frequently making weird rulings. That same thing happened to a contender and they got disqualified.

If you are pitched over the side at zone 4 in Gauntlet you should either be out properly or only score for the first three. That’s how it should work. And the points should be awarded on a basis of the time difference.
Legend apparently has (I haven’t watched it) a long standing YouTube or Insta presence where he practiced the patter.
Some of them could do with some training on this side of things. The likes of Apollo and Dynamite are flatter than a witch’s tit on the microphone.

I haven’t seen Gladiators but I‘ve been watching his YT for a few years, he’s a pretty funny dude. I doubt his persona on the show is actually much of a persona. |

Not sure why they haven't gone for a male and female presenter (and no, Barney doesn't count as the female presenter). Also agree they should get rid of Gauntlet. It really is crap. And the one that four Gladiators swing into a contestant that's running across a bridge. Still the best Saturday night telly entertainment I've had in decades mind you. What a nice change from endless abhorrent talent shows with sob stories. I think this is genuinely the first time in a VERY long time we've actually bothered to put the TV on on a Saturday in fact. Just good, silly fun. |
