Awwwww MANTA FORCE! I loved that! Everything you needed to basically stage a sci fi war in one package. I got that for my birthday - came out of the blue as I didn’t ask for it, but it was my favourite thing for a long while.
Also the second most painful thing to step on after Lego - my mum can attest.

I had this beauty as a kid. I kept it in great condition right up to my early 20s but my girlfriend made me give it to her nephew for his birthday because we were poor and because she was giving me lots of sex. Little shit trashed it. Now I'm older I do regret it terribly, despite my opening post saying I tend not to look back. You guys have kindled something inside me... I had this. I would give most of my blood to have it back

Not sure if anyone is local enough to be able to appreciate it, but this place in Wantage is brilliant for retro toys, games and memories in general. It feels almost more like a museum than a shop. www.instagram.com/tvm.wantage?igsh=dnk2cnQwaDRwMWRsFun fact - stumbled upon it while getting my son’s tongue tie snipped.

That doesn't sound like a reputable place for paediatric surgery

We had one of those rock em sock em robot sets but it was called Clash of the Cosmic robots. There was an orange one and a white one. It was absolutely awesome, the head pops up when you lose
Also we had this game called Crossfire, where you each had a gun and a goal and shot ball bearings at a puck type thing to get it into your opponent’s goal. Again it was fricking awesome. When we took into school on ‘toy day’ people never stopped playing it

This one is still at my parents just waiting for my son or nephew to ruin. And all my Starcom is still there too but basically all of that apart from the Shadowbat was played to destruction by me and my brother. Its all still there but a lot of glued limbs and worn out mechanisms.

Its all still there but a lot of glued limbs and worn out mechanisms. That's basically a euphemism for getting older.

This thread is fast AF. Just typed a big Manta Force/Red Venom reply post and it’s all already up about seven times lol. Manta Force was the greatest toy ever IMO - but my parents wouldn’t buy it me. My gran ended up getting me ‘Manta Force’ at home Red Venom (the baddies) instead after about three years of asking for it. The Red Venom craft itself is pretty cool but the contained vehicles were plastic naffness to Manta’s die cast awesome sauce. The other white whale was the Action Force (remember this is what GI Joe used to be marketed as in the UK) hovercraft with perhaps the most enticing advert ever… youtu.be/Kawd28_qlIU?si=yAydph7BMl4MxlmsI had an Action Force VHS I can vaguely remember watching over and over again, it had a big scene on a warship or aircraft carrier, and it seemed to pale in interest to the trailer for Action Force the Movie, which I ultimately never saw. Bet it’s on YouTube now.

If we're going the toys route then I had one of these, not available that widely (UK and France only IIRC) and seeing a boxed one on sale for a ridiculous amount of money at Star Wars Celebration 2016 made me wish I knew where it went. Mint ones, which are extremely rare, are worth thousands.

I used to get these LCD games which looked like a Casio Digital watch display. Had loads, remember a really good submarine one, Nintendo had a few but the greatest was Afterburner - that was actually built into a faux cockpit with a joystick, throttle and speaker. My dad could often be found sneaking a go on it. youtu.be/owof-OHb3zk?si=0miDwsBEP_lioR3T£250 boxed on EBay. Sigh.

No one I ever bring this up to in real life has a clue what I mean but does anyone here remember Crossbows & Catapults? I had the base game and an expansion that added a giant Trojan Horse and battle wagon thing

Those Tomy-tronic games were sick. Had a racing one and a shark hunting one. Racing one was better, shark one was a bit cheesy.

I recall the crossbow being more useful but if you pulled the pin back too far it was dangerous. Great memory well done!

Me and my brother had the same set up, plus a Minotaur that would chuck the discs, albeit not as successfully as the catapults. The Crossbows were really ineffectual until we discovered that using the table protector as a playing surface would reduce carpet friction.

Might be getting super niche now: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ancestral_Trail?wprov=sfla1If The Hobbit, Golden Axe and Hero Quest were the gateway, then this*, Space Crusade and the Wednesday after school games club (which included 40k, WHFB, Man o' War and Space Hulk) were the straight into my veins Geek for Life stuff. *My Nan, who was running a newsagent and noticed my love of Tolkien, bought me the whole series. It's long gone, all my childhood books, toys, models, etc are. I would commit such atrocities to have the whole stack of the magazines to read through for a weekend.

I must clearly have been into absolutely everything back in the day because that’s another tick. I saw The Ancestral Trail through to the bitter end even after my local newsagents stopped stocking it. It needed a subscription and there was a whole weird second season based in the future of huge 2gb hard drives, but it got completed.

Wasn't much of a fan of the sci-fi second half, or at least I don't remember it all that fondly compared to the fantasy setting (and I remember much, much less of it in general). Definitely preferred the art in the first half too.

Crossbows and catapults was awesome. Nice to see Crossfire being mentioned too. My mate had that blister-inducing bad boy.
I had something called, I think, Space Invader (or maybe something like that that wasn't so copyright infringing). You wound up this handle that caused a metal spinning top to spin really quickly then released it into the playing field where you basically played pong, sliding blocker across that deflected back to the opponent. It was really noisy. Which also reminds me of Tomy Super Cup Football 😁

Yeah it was a definite drop and obviously aged within about two months. It had its moments, though. Robo’s heel turn was pretty cool, and it’s a shame they reversed it. The court case against Richard was neat, too.

My best mate cheated a Crossbows and Catapults win and I have never forgiven him (or let him forget it).
