'Watching' was a Sunday night show on ITV in the late 80's that would give cute little me the fear for Monday mornings

I watched some of that recently, though I forget where. It wasn't as funny as I remembered.

I was a choirboy as a kid, so Sunday for me was a service in the morning and another in the evening. In between was a roast either at ours or round at grans house.
I was on both Songs of Praise and Highway, so it's possible whilst we all had to watch the same rubbish Sunday TV, I might actually have been on yours.
Sundays all changed when my voice broke. It coincided with me getting a TV in my bedroom (a "portable" 12" black and white) and the launch of a TV show that became a religion - Moviedrome.

If I remember right the closing credits were just a collection of ways Captain Scarlett would have died if he were indestructible. Being attack by a snake was my favourite.

Captain Scarlet has always been my favourite Gerry Anderson show, it did stuff no other show aimed at a younger audience never did before and it's still pretty much more than what "children's shows" are prepared to do.
Death on a huge scale, global terror and things exploding pretty much every episode. Captain Black was rather too trigger happy on Mars but considering the Mysterons could just repair everything they blew up on Mars it's a bit of a disproportionate response.
I'm glad reality isn't anything like that.
Oh.

In a parallel universe, "Threads" was done by Gerry Anderson.

In a parallel universe, "Threads" was done by Gerry Anderson. I've never seen Threads, other than the famous mushroom cloud over Sheffield bit. It's on BBC4 tomorrow from 10pm, let's see how it holds up over 40 years later.

For me it's the various Sunday kids shows, like lion witch and the wardrobe.

And Heartbeat, how come no-one has brought that up yet?

Was that the one with Robert Carlyle as a rural policeman?

No, that was Hamish Macbeth. Heartbeat was Simon Wicks (Nick Berry) from EastEnders

Some of these are way more graphic than I remember it being. At least two people basically go full Scanners

I never really watched Captain Scarlet much beyond the spooky opening sequence. Don't know why. Could never really get on with the puppet stuff. This has prompted me to read up about it on wiki and... it actually looks amazing.
I'm seriously tempted to start watching it. Now. At the age of 43.

I didn't mind the puppets, and the opening sequence was great, but I seem to remember getting few up that the main characters were indestructible, which made things a bit pointless. I may well have misunderstood the deeper plot though, as I was pretty young.
I tried watching the Captain Scarlet CG reboot a while back, but it was all too uncanny-valley. The Thunderbirds CG reboot is ace though.

Why don't we have comedy shows anymore.

I think we do but a lot only get exposure on bbc3 and the the stuff that's incredibly milquetoast guaranteed to upset no one nor please everyone gets on bbc1. Everything else is the cheap, tried and tested method of the panel show with the same rotating cast. Itv is whatever the fuck itv is and channel 4 seemed to have confused comedy with commissioning a long list of comedy dramas that barely meet the remit of comedy while very middle class, white TV critics gush how important comedy drama v.1500 is important for the industry because it represents something that is very important and then nod sagely.

Remember when Smarties used to come in a cardboard tube with the plastic lid? And after you polished off the confectionary you could karate chop the tube and the lid would go flying, with a satisfying POP! Bloody brilliant entertainment.

By the by, Shrinkflation, and making stuff smaller while charging more makes me unreasonably angry. I noticed that when i bought a bar of dairy milk and noticed that the squares are thinner and smaller in width than they used to be. I sometimes would buy a bar in Andorra and the difference in size for what you're paying is palpable. It really is a rip-off in the UK.

It's happening with everything. Parmesan is the latest I spotted. Sure it used to be 250 or even 300g. Now only 200, which is easy to use most of in a pasta bake or something.

We just got a multipack of Roysters - ‘same amount of Roysers, LESS packaging’.
Looks like one of those packets people shrink in the oven.
Defo not as many crisps either
