3 months working Sports Direct while I waited for an IT job to start was my penance. My god that was grim.
Fucking manky customers and shite management, staff searches every night to make sure you hadn't nicked a pair of socks or something.
Zero hour contracts, fuck that.

Ah man, even stepping into a sports direct is a grim experience. Cants imagine actually having to spend a full day there.

Maybe I lucked out as I worked for Music Zone and Fopp at college/uni and it was one of the best jobs I've had. Play music all day. Chat absolute crap with everyone. Get everything at cost price.
I think if I did win the lottery, I would just have a record store somewhere. Probably stock a load of stuff I like. Get fucked if you want something special.

Toys R Us was a truly magical place as a kid though. One of the very best places to buy games I had to go to IKEA a week or two ago and the old Toys R Us building is just beyond so went out of my way to see it. Was a fuckng car showroom - sacrilege! Must have been IKEA in Warrington then. I used to work in Westbrook Retail and it was almost the law to nip into IKEA and then go to Toys R Us to make up from being dragged round a lot of Swedish flatpack creations.

We never had a Toymaster as far as I’m aware but we had a Toy & Hobby, which were just in the north west I believe It was an incredible shop, bought my first Star Wars figures from there. I assume the rise of Toys R Us killed it off For a town centre store it was absolutely massive I always remember listening to a radio of commentary of United getting beat 5-0 at Everton in there (Was October 1984) I do have vivid memories of being in Toy And Hobby in Wigan town centre in the 80's/early 90's. I remember the flooring, the signs, the 60 second demo on the NES (never long enough to actually play Rad Racer).

I always remember buying Super Parodius for the SNES from there for something like £9.99 Bought my Master System, N64, Gameboy Advance SP, one of my Dreamcasts from there too. If you timed it right you could get serious bargains from Toys R Us

I was remembering the other day when everything - and I mean everything - was closed on Sundays. You’d go to church, have dinner at lunch, you’d have your weekly bath and Knight Rider would come on. Whole day wasted.

Whole day wasted. Scratch out the church bit and replace Knight Rider for The Cosby Show and I'm with you. It's strange how I still can't get past that feeling of a Sunday where it feels somewhat depressing and goes so quickly, moreso when the sun goes down earlier as you get later into the year.

I find the Countryfile theme tune quite triggering…
“It’s time for Countryfiiiile, The weekend is almost done, It’s time to go back to schoooooooool….”
Antiques Roadshow as well, but the lyrics to that are officially… (credit to Chris Smith of the Christian o’Connell Virgin Radio show).
“My gran has died Aged 95, This urn contains, Her burnt remains
How much is it worth, please? (Three hundred reddies)
Three grand is quite A lot to me, So what? Price sentimentality!
I’ll take the cash for Grandma. (Have some cash for grandma)
It’s the antiques roadshow with Michael Aspel He gives you cash For your gran’s old tat.
I’m going to spend the money all on booooooooze. “

Was Howards way a nationwide thing?
Sunday night was dominated by it down south.
Distinctly remember lyrics along the lines of "Howaarrds wayyy... your fucking Nan is gaaay!" being a huge hit in school

Whole day wasted. Can't speak for anyone else's but absolutely no one in my family or friends would ever go to a church if it wasn't one of the usual three : wedding/Christening/funeral.
Even the Christening thing seems to be extremely rare now too, my parents didn't bother for me or my sister and that was the seventies, I think my brother was but as he's five years older than me I obviously wasn't there! When I was a little kid the most annoying thing to happen was being pretty much forced to go to my Dad's Sunday football in the morning with my brother, I think just so my Mum could get some piece and quiet for a few hours (after the game my Dad would normally have a drink with his teammates in a pub), back home for Sunday lunch.

I mean obviously it would differ from family to family and culture to culture. I was raised Roman Catholic so it was church every Sunday. My dad was a non-practicing Protestant though, so he got to have a lie-in every Sunday. That sly old dog.

Not a chance I’d go to church as a kid, I still find the concept as a sign of insanity to this day
Always remember when these American evangelists came to our school and invited everyone to one of their events at a local church. They did all the weird stuff and were like “If you FEEL IT right now stand up. If you FEEL IT come up on stage and worship with us”
My mate stood up because he really fancied one of the young attractive girls they’d brought over with them. I was like “Sit the fuck down you idiot”, which thankfully he listened to

That’s the thing about religion - you don’t really get an option. I mean you can throw a three-year-old temper tantrum and you might get let off one week. But at the end of the day you’re too little to be left on your own and Dad’s working off his hangover so off to Sunday service you go.

It actually seems as though they've brought it back this year as a limited edition product! Gotta order one (or seven).
