Never played Angel of Darkness, but it was mostly remembered as being a buggy mess, with plenty of moments that completely break the game. Will be interesting to see them actually fix it up into something that is presumably playable (even if it is safe to assume that it was never a shit-covered gem).
Loved The Last Revelation when I was young. It was my favourite at the time, with it focusing purely on Egyptian tombs and avoiding modern locations that other Tomb Raider games insisted on chucking in.
Chronicles was ok, but don't remember it being amazing. Think it offered quite a bit of variety, as it is 4 or 5 different stories, but most of it was mediocre. Only one I really remember is some sort of ghost story one in Scotland with a teenage Lara.

Glad about TR4 as I loved it back then and I welcome a chance to replay it. As for Chronicles, it was a disjoined mess and only came to be (IIRC) because Angel of Darkness was taken ages to complete and Eidos wanted something new on the market. The only level I remember from that was the hi-tec one which I admit got me very excited at the time for the future of the series (little did I know).
One thing I like about this remaster is the preserving of all games (even the bad ones) for legacy reasons and judging by the quality of the first remaster trilogy it's a worthy effort (I'm looking at you R*).

I never played them back in the day and I've not even finished the first one in the original remaster trilogy yet. Needless to say by February I'm sure I will have convinced myself I need to buy these.

I think Angel of Darkness always make me a little sad because, setting aside the lamentable design choices, atrocious enemy AI, and plethora of bugs, the actual setting and narrative context of those opening segments in Paris in particular had SO much potential.
Had a really nice Umberto Eco/Foucault's Pendulum kinda vibe.

Agreed, Angel of Darkness had potential and was a really missed opportunity.

I don't see how they can release AoD without major changes and fixes.
I'm not too hot on these 3 tbh. TLR is mostly good, but largely as an overall thing and with the way it interconnects, a huge amount of the levels are pretty meh, and a lot of it is unintuitive as hell with puzzles suddenly thrown at you with absolutely no indication that an item or object was capable of doing that up to that point.
Chronicles is just incredibly mid throughout as well.

As I said earlier this is what also concerns me about Soul Reaver because the gameplay is frankly very much of its time but not in a good way and extremely repetitive. But I doubt they've had the mandate to go in and change stuff AoD wise.

By the way, did they ever patch the annoying things with TR1-3? iirc people mentioned stuff like being unable to see some keys in the Updated mode, and some actions being almost impossible with the new controls

All the actions were always possible with the new controls AFAIK, just VERY awkward to do in most cases. But having said that - I played through all of 2/3 + their expansions with the modern controls and came to the conclusion that once you're used to the modern controls it doesn't really matter because you don't need those moves anyway

I might be mistaken, but I'm sure I read an article somewhere - maybe Eurogamer, that someone had gone back & fixed AoD to make it more playable and fixed the bugs. Also, were there not differences between the PAL & NTSC versions as they were not a simultaneous release? Games on the PS2 could not be patched and V1.0 would be the only released version, unless a repress was slipped out with an updated version, which I believe did happen from time to time I think those involved in this were part of thee Tomb Raider mod scene so I would expect they have access to a better version rather than the released code

I think there's a load of community fixes, I think the issue is more that even when it's not broken it's just... not very good.
