Very excited for this, was nervous with the lack of news but the gameplay videos that came out yesterday look great.
Sounds like the switch version will run pretty much on par aswell which is good news.

Very torn on this. wasn't really interested at all until I saw the footage from yesterday and suddenly I'm very nostalgic for it.

I watched some footage yesterday and I think it looks really good. Yes it looks very dated still, but they have made significant improvements to the graphics in places. The lighting in particular has been vastly improved, it really adds to the atmosphere. I will try the modern control scheme but I am really dubious that it will work very well when the whole game is designed around the tank controls. Either way, quite looking forward to replaying these again. I love how the original games didn't hold your hand and you had to explore and use your brain somewhat to progress.
I have seen that you get a little exclamation mark when you can interact with objects.......which I don't like. I guess they are trying to appease the newer generation of players, but luckily you can turn that shit off.

I missed the first one as didn't have a psone at the time. But will never forget getting TR2 for the PC and loading it up.
Just fantastic memories. Be fun to go back and enjoy a bit of gaming history. The good the bad and the ugly.
I like this approach of giving you what you remembered without changing too much. When you look at the videos you think it's almost as you played it in the 90s until they switch to the original graphics.

I'll probably just stick to the tank controls and enjoy it for what it was and what my muscle memory will remember lol

They could have sold a lot more copies if they had included boob physics.

I fully expect my resolve to break and I’ll buy this after a few reviews.
The fact you can save anywhere and skip levels if a challenge gets too much is probably all I need. There’s walkthrough videos now that we didn’t have in 1996; so would be rude not to.

My favourite version of Lara so think it's fair to buy it. Been about some 20 odd years since I last played these games so prepared to go on a full nostalgia trip. Really nice they have the Halo Remastered ability to swap between new and original graphics at any point.

I can't get over how obviously AI upscaled the textures look. Would it have cost so much to have some artists touch them up a bit?
Heard mixed things about the modern controls, apparently they've not included a proper backstep option so you have to draw your guns to do a backstep to line up the pixel perfect jumps. And also the grid movement can't determine your jump moment either, meaning the jumps are a lot harder (in the originals, if you walked to an edge, backstepped, then started running forward, you could hit jump and at any time and it would delay your jump until you hit the edge of the current grid square. Modern controls can't do that, so it becomes a lot harder to time those jumps).
I'll probably get this though just because it'll actually work on Steam Deck.

The only thing that makes me hesitant about this is that it's Aspyr on porting duties and they've been dropping the ball a lot of late.

I can't get over how obviously AI upscaled the textures look. This is pretty much where I am. I've seen worse though, and the option for the original graphics is there so meh. One thing that does stand out - and I have this problem with modern games in general - is how fucking dark the realistic lighting is. Take a look here at 5:15 and tell me everything isn't a million times clearer when they switch to the old graphics: youtu.be/R9yxzDDvAm8?si=_nQoz7tihUmudbcB&t=315Yeah yeah, I know, they're in a cave and real caves are dark. But in reality your eyes adjust to low light. And if they're trying to communicate that no, THIS cave is so dark that your eyes wouldn't adjust, then shut up and redesign your game! I want to see WTF I'm doing! Games take this too far nowadays IMO. /yells at cloud

I assume that's a technical limitation which is fair, but what I don't get is why the original graphics mode couldn't have been "the new graphics mode but with the old textures" to get around it.

Agree about the controls and brightness, it’s too dark on the remastered graphics. I also saw in the opening level of TR3 where there’s some quicksand/mud that is instant death to walk into. In the remaster, it’s a slightly different but static pattern; on original it ripples and moves and looks dodgy. Hmmm

This is why we can't have the No One Lives Forever remake, because of the white man doing an Indian accent.

I really don't see an issue tbh. They left in the content, they explained that admittedly there is a shit load of what some people might call "problematic content", some will disagree. No one was hurt and nothing was censored. Gamers with a capital G are fucking embarrassing.

Jambowayoh I don't have a problem with the disclaimer either. When it comes to this sort of thing, right-wing loons ensure that devs are damned if they do and damned if they don't: - Removal of the content in question = censorship! First Amendment rights! Free speech! - Leaving the content intact, but adding a disclaimer = pandering to the woke snowflake mobs! Meanwhile, ignoring the "problematic content" seems tone-deaf at best and harmful at worst. I do wish that IGN wouldn't bait those clicks by writing an article dedicated to such a non-issue, but I'd be a fool to expect anything else. Wes also 'wrote' a 'story' about Stellar Blade being rated adults-only "for nudity and violence" this afternoon, which attracted the exact same commentariat as the Tomb Raider article linked above - I don't know why he left his position as Eurogamer editor, but if crapping out this kind of content for IGN was preferable by comparison, it must've been a bloody good reason.

The Stellar Blade stuff has been massively embarrassing for all involved. Again, Gamers with a capital G proving their lack of worth to society. It's something else when you consider that they kids who talked about the fake cheat code to see Lara's polygon tits are probably the same people talking about virtual dolls digital arse.

Agreed (and the devs haven't exactly helped, by talking in an interview about wanting "to come up with the most attractive looking body for the user", as if that matters in the least).
I'm still looking forward to the game, but this discourse is more than a trifle embarrassing.
