That Kiana boss fight is no joke, dropped it to easy and it was still hard.

What does it mean when my screen turns purple in certain areas? Is there something I’ve skipped, or will it be eventually be explained?
Edit - Nevermind. I figured it out literally about 30 seconds later. Haha.

Some of the platforming puzzles are top tier - I did the bit with the doors in the Temple of Knowledge last night, it's almost like The Talos Principle.

Some of the bosses are right bastards later on. Think I'm doing the second to last one at the mo and he needs a good hard kick in the bollocks.

Just catching up on this thread. Would you say it’s Streets of Rage 2 or Street Fighter Alpha Ultimate Deus Ex 17 Ultimate Edition complex? The former could be cool as hell, the latter not so much. My Prince of Persia will always be the rotoscoped one from the 90s I had on my dad’s Mac. True magic that game was. Although I did like the one where it went cell shaded, can’t remember if that was the one on 360 or XBox One. I’ll have a look into this when there’s a price drop.

Streets of rage more than street fighter, combos are timing based rather than special move based. It's all very very slick.

I clocked 3 straight hours on my first session with this game. This is very much my cup of tea! The parry and slide mechanics are very Metroid Dread, which I love. The amulets remind me of Hollow Knight too. Kinda like the best of both worlds.
I’m very tempted to take my Switch into work with me tomorrow…

There are some bullshit hard platforming sections (optional) once you get further in.

Bring it on, it's half the fun for me. Having fun with one of the abilities Shadow allows for pretty interesting mix ups, had one where I was juggling mid air, did the downward slash and made the shadow. Combod on the ground, hit the launcher and teleported back to knock them down again. Almost makes me not want to upgrade the swords because the enemies would die too quickly to get combos going.

Yeah there is a strong Guacamelee vibe with some of the devious puzzling and platforming

I feel like they've taken little bits from all of the better Metroidvania games. Bits feel Hollow Knight, others Guacamelee, some Ori, etc. It's really, really good stuff.

Finished this just now and apart from a couple of bosses being a bit too hard I thought it was brilliant from start to finish.
Certainly one of the best metroidvania games I've played.

I’m getting lost in the sewers at the moment, so I’m probably a looooong way of finishing this game. For those who have finished it; The Lost Crown or Sands of Time. Which is the better game?

Indeed, but I guess this is more like “If you could only pick one”. They both have their strengths.

I probably prefer SoT (from memory - been a long time since I’ve played it, and I was looking forward to the remaster). This is excellent though.

If I could pick one game it’d be Lost Crown. If I can include the whole Sands of Time trilogy then that.

Better than hollow knight for me,I found that to be a lot of style over substance

Hollow Knight rewards you for getting past a brutal section by hitting you with obstacles you can't pass yet, enemies who are too strong for you, and not a bench in sight. Say goodbye to that geo. It's always a heck of an achievement to make progress. Especially with the complete lack of signposting.
PoP has some equally brutal platforming, but almost always ends them with a tree and often a fast travel point in (too often at times). And you lose next to no crystals on death. And you always know where to go next, even with the guide turned off.
Bosses in Hollow Knight are better from what I've seen so far, but combat is overall much more interesting in PoP.
So I'd say PoP is less frustrating, easier to play, and more enjoyable... but there's a lot to be said about the satisfaction of earning progress in HK.

This game is huge! Not Hollow Knight huge, but way bigger than I expected. I’m sure I could shave off a few hours with a replay, but I was expecting maybe a 20 hour game, tops. At the 20 hour mark I’m at 60% completion.
Not that I’m complaining. It’s not getting old or anything. If anything it’s getting better and better as it goes on.

Just beat Kiana. Once I got my parries down was a piece of piss fight and with the amulet that lets you regen with successful parries I was never really in much danger. Was a good boss fight though.

I only just found that amulet the other night! I did managed to beat Kiana without it, but I instinctively dodge more often than parry, so I would’ve wasted it in that battle. I’m getting better with it now, though.

Yeah. That ‘parry to heal’ amulet is so over powered. I beat the next 2 bosses on my first attempts. I have upgraded my weapons and potions to the max (I believe), but I’m constantly regaining health in combat now. It’s getting silly.

Loving this. Controls are so tight and fluid. And yeah - huge map and a lot of things to do.

From reports the game sold about 300k which supposedly is pretty disappointing. General reaction seems to be people just dont trust Ubisoft to make a good game anymore and doesn't justify the full price tag, but that doesn't really make sense given AC Mirage and the Avatar game sold in the millions. Perhaps Metroidvania games are a harder sell for general publicity, a lot of other comments definitely came across that they saw 2D games as already inferior to 3D ones. Very strange.
