Bring back the puddle of wee! Peak logo, for sure. Hello, btw. The 25th anniversary stuff made me all nostalgic and stuff, and Whizzo reminder me that this place exists, so thought I'd drop by. :-)

Remember when there was an amazing fresh new design coming but it just turned it to be blue and shit and the forum continued to be the same shit 1998 forum inside a window of that new blue shit?

The forum gets a passing mention as part of the community -
'And it's true by the way - you do make this a nice place to be. You, collectively, are as much a part of Eurogamer as we are, and we never lose sight of that, even if we do jettison a forum from time to time.'

That forum really was the ginger headed stepchild of the site wasn't it? They sound positively embarrassed by it.

I love you guys, but there are a few patches on that forum that I can understand they’d distance themselves from. All things related to Ecosse, for example. On both sides, I mean. They may have been intolerable, but that also bought out the ugly side of some folk. I remember somebody found an image of them on Facebook(?) and bullied them on their appearance on the Wii U thread. And then you have the countless times girls were chased away from the forums in general.
Moments like that would dominate an evening and be a bit of a stain on an otherwise wholesome and supportive community.
I say this as somebody that has had my moments of being dumb, confrontational, rude and childish. I’m hardly an example of good behaviour.
Not all of us were a DFawkes.

To be fair to the team that run Eurogamer these days a lot of them never visited the forum - or weren’t even around when it existed! - so it doesn’t get brought up when reminiscing. But rest assured a bunch of us very old timers went to the pub the other day and had a good chat about the forum. Forever in our hearts.

BlizeH would always ask for advice on the most mundane of things and then always do something completely different.

I've always been more of a lurker than a poster but finding EG and the forum when I did (probably 2005-2006) was a godsend. The EG podcast with the two Toms and resist appearances from Christian Donlon was probably the first podcast I listened to regularly. I may have grown a bit colder on Donlan's writing over the years but his enthusiasm for games always shone through when he was talking or writing about them. Tom Champion sent me a bunch of Singstar discs that time he was doing an office clear out too, so he'll always be a top fella in my book.
Then you had stuff like Ed Zitron's Dorkfail review and ask the fallout from that which was hilarious. TF Tuesdays were the first time I played online games semi regularly with a bunch of people. Isketch Fridays were brilliant craic and I still don't know how I wasn't caught playing it in work on a few occasions. I'll always remember that story about morriss (I think, or was it Gremmi?) saying he'd help that kid in Animal Crossing then chopping down all his trees.
For all the fractiousness of the forum and the wee cliques there was a fantastic sense of togetherness at times, especially if someone needed help.
All stuff that's been covered in here already but just wanted to add my bit.

That forum really was the ginger headed stepchild of the site wasn't it? They sound positively embarrassed by it. I liked the bit right before that, where they effectively claim ownership of neilka's good work as though it were some genius guerrilla campaign. A lot of you simply thanked the community spirit which is embodied in the weekly What We've Been Playing series, and in how a seemingly innocuous article took on a life of its own. That has nothing to do with us by the way! You did that, with your emergent bold formatting and general encouragement. We just shepherd it along. Or perhaps we roll it along - that's a reference to Stephen's Sausage Roll and the meme-like back and forth we had with you, culminating in a special festive review of the game.

The EG podcast with the two Toms and racist appearances from Christian Donlon fully read it as this and had to double, nay triple take. /RubsEyes

I see a Psychotext posting relatively frequently on resetera. Probably the same person. Maybe he doesn't know this place exists. Or hates us.
Ah, he just hasn't posted for 2 years. Probably hates us all then.
