I think my actual favourite moment was that guy who had a burst pipe and carried on like he was in the Poseidon Adventure then lost his mind when people started laughing about it.
And the guy who bumped the VR thread three years after I said VR would do fuck all to crow about how wrong I was because VR was actually doing bugger all.

I like to remember the good times though, the nice things. The generosity of random forum members resulting in me recieving an xbox 360 controller for my son in a box filled with sweets (he was so chuffed, or the saddle I got sent for my bike. The game(s) I got gifted out the blue as recently as last year. The support this place and it's previous incarnation gives to members in need, how everyone rallies round (even if the cause wasn't always genuine *cough* aformentioned Jivehound story *cough*). All the support a bunch of miserable middle aged men give each other when it matters. How nice the EG/FG forum can actually be and what a decent bunch of fucking weirdos everyone is. There is the odd nutter and the odd antagonist but the fact they are all so vividly remembered shows how rare they were. In an age where every online social interaction space can soon turn into a cesspit. This place and it's ancestor are/were a godsend. I managed to get sent a free PS4Pro when my original died. No sweets though. Hopefully that user wasn’t a housebreaker, come to think of it now. |

One of the first EG threads I created (after lurking for ages) was about how I felt ripped off by Microsoft when they converted Xbox points to real currency for folks in the beta program, and screwed up the exchange rates so that non-US currency effectively had less money than you’d paid for the points. Some folks were telling me it was just a price rise in the xbox store rather than a mistake , others that I was breaking the Xbox beta NDA by discussing it (which I was TBF). Then EG did a front page article on it and I felt vindicated.
The only other times I said something that caused minor uproar was either liking cheese and marmalade sandwiches, or the time I had to euthanise a frog with a spade because I’d maimed it with a strimmer. Simpler times.

There was a user at the old place who wanted to practice his drawing and so took requests from everyone and would sketch out whatever naff shit he got asked for. Thinking about it now it was essentially a precursor to AI generated images but for the EG hive mind  Can't remember their username and I don't have any record of their old drawings. I wish I had framed my picture request though which was something like: 'Arnold Schwarzenegger ripping off the head of the Predator whilst shouting "see you at the party"' |

I don't really remember all the specifics. I think she came out with something about games being addictive and how kids should be stopped from playing them. I wrote something along the lines of the fact she should worry about her own addiction to cake before worrying about gaming. She then went out to read mine a and a few other posts about her on the EG forum during some bit on those crappy Channel 5 daytime shows about internet bullying. It was a good few years after I wrote the post that it got read out and I forgotten I'd even written it. Someone on the forum saw it go out and then bumped the old thread. Very embaressing. |
