Got through yesterday evening OK. Onto evening 2. I'll be taking up jogging at this rate. No booze continues, despite the wife petitioning for a glass of wine last night. She's Irish though, so it was to be expected. Goodness me. Just said that if our mates haven't turned up tomorrow evening, I won't be drinking on Friday either- she made very clear that she is looking forward to the finest wines known to humanity, or failing that, a posh cider.

Corsendonk was my gateway into Belgian dubbels, the bartender at a Belgian bar in Manhattan recommended it to me once and that was it. Generally go for the Trappist ales, Rochefort, Chimay blue, almost strong ale season now

It's now Saturday, and I haven't had any booze since last Sunday. I did have a bit of a 'just one beer' moment last night, but decided to put it off til midnight, then went to bed. Herself was very grumpy, and had a couple of glasses of wine- and has decided to invite one of her mates over tonight for a few glasses. This is possibly the longest I have gone without alcohol since forever- and all because I put a few extra kilos on over lockdown.

So we had drinks tonight because of a neighbour's birthday, and she started screaming at the kids when we were heading to bed. I pointed her towards the spare room, and now I'm the bad guy.
FML. Something is wrong here, and I don't know how to fix it. And I'm posting on a gaming forum.

Argh. You have 'A Talk' incoming I think. God speed. I wish I could advise but all I can do is sympathise.

I've only read your posts in this thread but as someone who has had issues with alcohol in the past, she may have an issue. It might be that the issue is stress or anxiety and the alcohol is just her way of trying to deal with it. Or I could be entirely wrong.

Definitely sounds like anxiety to me.
I have a headache. Perhaps one too many glasses of rioja last night, on top of beers and a gin. Fairly standard Saturday. Hoping it doesn't knock out my Sunday afternoon while cooking ales.

The Krups isn't so bad size wise, it's actually smaller than I imagined. Footprint is around the size of a large toaster. The beer varies in price. They come in 2 litre kegs (or torps as they're called) and range from £8-£15ish each, 4 pints per keg so £2-£3.75 a pint depending on what you go for. I find personally it's worth it for what is pretty much pub quality, ice cold beer. The price does help you keep it more as a treat I found, but they can be addictive. Beerwulf.com who sell them, have them on offer at the moment, effectively throwing in 4 kegs of beer in with the price of the machine. Sadly, in Switzerland there are only 5 different beer torps available, which is nearly 10x less than what is available on Beerwolf. On the other hand, less temptation.

Danno, Sarfrin, Dougs-
We had The Talk this morning after I brought child #1 back from his rugby match. She was very apologetic to the whole family, and we now have rules around when we drink (and what we drink, too). Drinking definitely increased during lockdown, so maybe this is a good hard reset. We'll see.

Good to get it out in the open. No point leaving it festering. The last 18 months has been shit so we should all cut ourselves some slack, but I guess bad habits need to be addressed sooner or later.

After drinking far too much on Friday, didn't drink on Saturday, but then my intention to not drink on Sunday or Monday fell by the wayside. Didn't drink loads, just a couple of beers each night, but still, not exactly going to plan.
I just feel incredibly weak-willed. See also my approach to snacks.

If I can get over the first hour or so after I finish work, it's all good. If not, I'm not stopping at a few.

I had a night off. I got up early, showered, left the house early, and got an extra ten minutes on the bike. Hmm. There may be something to this not drinking lark.

I'm desperately trying to cut back and was doing pretty well but this month at work has been pretty terrible. This week I've managed one night off and am now in the pub on the way home as I can't be bothered to cook. Only a couple here but still...
Next week, next week...

I’ve got to admit I went too far last night. Almost ten pints of Asahi on my own in front of the TV. Why? Because it was Monday.
Obviously today was a total write off. Spent most of it in bed feeling like a tit and now trying to fix my surround sound speakers which have without warning decided not to work. It’s self inflicted torture.
I’m at the age now where this shit is just doing me damage. Maybe time to knock it all on the head.

I’ve got down to three nights a week quite easily. I’ve still got all the same trigger points but just have to tell myself it’s a only a couple of days to wait. I’m now trying this week as 2 days only. Not had a drink since Saturday and will wait until Friday. Friday seems so far away......

Keep going Clem, treat yourself with something else. I'm sure you'll be feeling some benefits from abstaining, but yeah it is very difficult. The only times I've ever stopped is after I'd practically poisoned myself with vodka over a fortnight.
I was chatting with a friend the other day. Some folk never stop, or go over the edge to full blown alcoholism because they never get bad consequences.

I’ve got a couple of nights out this weekend so I’ll no doubt over do it, but at least I’ll have had a week off before hand 👍 I am liking not waking up feeling groggy for work👍 I’ll get some non alcoholic beers in for the United match tomorrow

Trying to type, can't concentrate so I'm lurking around on here. Keep thinking a malt will help but I've only had 2 nights off in the last 7.
Fuck sake. I'm just drinking coffee instead which is making it worse, even though its pishy decaf.

It's odd how quickly "I'm not going to drink tonight" turns into "I'll have a beer with my pizza, it's a good combination" which leads to "another can't hurt it's Saturday" and now I'm 4 beers and multiple whsikies down.

I've spent the last week in a state of intoxication every evening, and was planning to take a night off tonight. Then a courier dropped off a package this morning from a beer club I've just joined. Bugger.

Went out to see the new bond film. Just had 1 pint beforehand, as didn't want to end up in the toilet and miss the film. Had loads afterwards though, so suffering today at work. Classic fucking Monday. And it's only hair of the dog today that'll make me feel better.

I promised last week I’d have four drink free days a week from now on. I failed.
I blame Getir. If I actually had to leave the house to get beer I’d probably be ok.

I think I need to find a lower calorie way to get pissed. Noticed I was getting fat earlier, and my alcohol intake doesn't help. Need to move away from imperial stouts for a bit at least.
It's the snacks that go along with drinking too. Fortunately my local shop has ran out of pork scratchings.
I could try to stop drinking, but ironically the drop in my already minuscule self-esteem makes me want to drink more.

Suffering today. Though on this one occasion, it is justified. Got a phone call yesterday just before I finished work, a kid has run straight into the main road in front of my partner's (oops, wife!) car and been hit. Child has gotten straight up and is fine other than a bruised leg, admitted seeing her sister on the other side of the road and running straight out, partner was doing 20 on a 30 road, and it's all been caught on CCTV so the police have already been around to assure her that it's in no way her fault. She's slammed on and turned the wheel so hard that it's broken something on the suspension. Still, she was an absolute wreck when I got in - she's an absolute softie at the best of times - so much alcohol was consumed.

Bloody hell. Think I'd do a neat shot of something as soon as I got in the door if that was me... Well, maybe wait until you've seen the police first!
