Having a dry week until Friday. Not even a beer with dinner. I reckon most of the weight I added over lock down (as well as diminishing energy levels) is down to The Demon Drink.
Problem is, I *know* we're going to get ratarsed over the weekend. Friends coming up from Cornwall for the weekend, with other friends coming over on Saturday for dinner.

Never used to keep beer in the house, wasn't a strict rule, just prefer to be a social drinker.
However during lockdown I treated myself to one of the Krups SUB compact beer machines. You have to allow time for the mini kegs it takes to settle and chill down to temperature, but once you've mastered the quirks, you have ice cold pub quality beer on draft.
Limitting myself to how often I use the bloody thing, but it's definitely opened my eyes to how good beer can be. Ice cold German Weissbier after work, yes please!

I love Erdinger which is my beverage of choice. There are lots of different types as well. I still don't drink much at home as very much a social drinker. I love rum as well and bought a bottle of Havana Club Tributo 2019 Rum. But I'll probably save that till new year.

Working in a bar during uni whenever anyone ordered an erdinger we’d all say erdinger in the style of goldfinger, now it’s impossible for me to say it normally

Received some Paulaner kegs of weissbier and Oktoberfest for the krups this morning, worrying excited to give them a go. 12 months ago I was content with Fosters

I think I know why you didn't use to keep beer in the house.

Drank too much on Sunday, and spent yesterday hungover (WFH so managed to nap at lunchtime).
Was planning on having a couple of beers ringgit at boardgames then taking a break until the weekend, but my beer52 box arrived and it might be hard to resist. Will see how it goes.

I have been very tempted by the Krups and the Pinter in the past, but have resisted (mostly as I have nowhere to put one). But I do like the idea, a lot.

Yes, I quite like the idea, it's just the space/cost of it all. Not sure that having ice-cold, near pub quality beer on tap all the time would be good for me. Although I can apparently resist the urge to drink more than a couple of beers on just a friday&saturday if the last year has been anything to go by.

The Krups isn't so bad size wise, it's actually smaller than I imagined. Footprint is around the size of a large toaster. The beer varies in price. They come in 2 litre kegs (or torps as they're called) and range from £8-£15ish each, 4 pints per keg so £2-£3.75 a pint depending on what you go for. I find personally it's worth it for what is pretty much pub quality, ice cold beer. The price does help you keep it more as a treat I found, but they can be addictive. Beerwulf.com who sell them, have them on offer at the moment, effectively throwing in 4 kegs of beer in with the price of the machine.

Started brewing my own during lockdown. Got pretty good at it but was then getting through about 40 pints every 2 weeks.

I actually ordered a pinter, but got fucked around pretty badly and read enough stories about their shit quality for me to cancel. There's a version 2 out this month, may take a look at that, though I just prefer the idea of one of those perfect draught things now.

That's disappointing to hear. I think I liked the "cheat's homebrew" aspect to it. Will see if V2 is any better.

I'm happy with Guinness zero. It doesn't taste as nice as normal Guinness, but it's perfect for me. Didn't have the usual problems the day after either.

Good to hear jono!
I'll add it to the list of 'behaving myself' beers. If it survived judgment by your discerning palette, then it must be decent! 😀

Yeah. It's stuck in my brain a bit.
Been mulling it over.
I think it'd probably be the lower vol krups which would be better for me, for beer not hanging around, but then it's worse for hassle of repeating changes if you had folk round.

I wonder should there be another thread that allows FG's great capability for support exist in a bit more isolation. At thr moment, someone who was genuinely in trouble will get that support but also an advertisement for some awesome alcohol within a few posts. I'm not knocking the thread at all but it might not be the best environment for someone who really really needs to quit.

It probably has got derailed from the original intention.
I did drink too much last night and now feel hungover. Went to boardgames, had a few beers. That was all fine. Once I got back though I decided to have a couple more, which was definitely not part of the plan.
It's like I sometimes get this little switch where even though I know it's a bad idea I somehow convince myself that it'll be fine to keep drinking. I'm not speaking a huge quantity as such, but it's enough to tip me from fine the next day to just feeling groggy and crap.

We're down to only drinking at the weekend. Most annoying thing for me is how it completely fucks with my sleeping pattern after a couple of days, it's usually Weds/Thus night before I get a decent night's unaided sleep. With booze I'm pretty much guaranteed to be out, even if it's not decent sleep it's better than a couple of hours.
That's definitely the thing that's pushing me to give up completely for a while.

My no midweeking it went by the wayside the last two days, treated myself to a single drink each night. Pretty chuffed I was happy to stop at that though
