What's your favourite or the year and why? What will be the lovely people of FG favourite game of the year be? Some ideas for you. Baldur's Gate 3 Armored Core 6: Fires Of Rubicon Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Starfield Lies of P Hi fi rush Phantom liberty Sea of stars Diablo 4 Zelda Alan wake 2 RE4 Spiderman 2 Wo long Lords of the fallen
For me it's Alan wake 2 but from that list I didn't play very much and I really disliked Zelda. Diablo 4 was fun at first but meh. Starfield I never went back to after about 3 hours. Phantom liberty was great but I enjoyed aw2 slightly more but it was a close one between those two.

So far, Armored Core VI wins by default, as it's the only new game I've played this year; that said, I really did enjoy it a lot.
If I get around to playing Wo Long and Persona 5 Tactica before December 31, those could be contenders as well.

Zelda has to be top of the tree for me, though Spiderman 2 has been everything I wanted and (bugs aside, which haven't been game breaking) is a very accomplished game.
Marvel Snap has to be my most played though so gets a mention. Apart from a week off for Glastonbury, I think I have played it every day.

It’s been a cracking year for games to be fair. I think my own personal goty was a bit of a surprise. Gripping, tense as hell, horrific, magnificent.
Amnesia: The Bunker
Tied second place is RE4 and Dead Space
Close third is Lords of the Fallen.
I have Lies of P still to play though so that might change. Alan Wake 2 I had projected to be up there but… no. Nowhere near.

Only really just started it but, as I can't say Cyberpunk, Phantom Liberty easily (and it's great so far - has all the best clothes)

I'm torn between Phantom Liberty and RE4. I haven't played BG3 yet, that's my Christmas present to myself.

Zelda - Tears of the Kingdom by some distance. Street Fighter 6 would probably be second.
Still to play Super Mario Wonder or Baldur's Gate 3.

Going by the games that I actually played during the year, I'd say Lies of P is my GOTY, followed by Wo Long. I started Lords of the Fallen recently and haven't found my groove with it yet, but it could be third, a place currently reserved for Cocoon. I know I will enjoy Tears of the Kingdom (like Breath of the Wild before it) and hope to play Baldur's Gate 3 co-op with JuniorFE, while Final Fantasy 16 is mocking me for still having it in its wrap and there's should be a place for Super Mario Wonder in here, but all these are currently in my pile of shame (with RE4, AW2, Diablo 4, and so many others)...

BG3 for me. It has issues and certainly isn't a perfectly polished product, but it is so ambitious and manages to get so much right. I can understand why devs got scared and started trying to lower expectations for their own games, as it really does set a new standard for narratively driven RPGs. It is incredible to me that during a lot of the 100 hours I spent playing it, I was thinking about what I would do in a second, third or maybe even a fourth play through.
Tears of Kingdom is probably second for me, but I've not actually finished it. Spider-Man 2 is also very high on the list, but I don't think it brings enough new to the table compared to other great games this year.

RE 4 was great fun, but it’s an obvious vote for Zelda, for me. It only stole 5 months of my gaming time this year. Hi-Fi Rush broke my brain as I could wrap my brain around the idea that moves are executed one beat after the button press (which makes sense, but made combos feel highly unatural).
I’ve not played anything else on that list and perhaps only a couple of other games released this year.

Tears of the Kingdom is the obvious vote for me. I haven't played anything else released this year that would surpass it, mostly been working on my backlog instead (and being honest, even if I counted said backlog the Niohs still wouldn't dethrone Zelda ) EDIT: I can imagine Baldur's Gate coming in a very very close second though, once we actually get around to it.

Comfortably Lies Of P for me, just a super polished and enjoyable experience. The Talos Principle 2 is going to be up there, but the unskippable narrative arc is starting to get on my tits...

I think the only things i've played that released this year are the System Shock demo and the tutorial island for Tears of the Kingdom (which I hated), so I guess the System Shock demo wins by default.
Mainly I've been playing Fortnite, Quake, Life is Strange and Alice Madness Returns, and I can't really pick between those.

The only games I've played that came out this year is a small amount of Baldurs Gate 3, and Jigsaw Puzzles Infinite. So I'd have to nominate the latter for now, unless I manage to get something modern played in the next month!

This year had a great list of some truly fantastic games, more so than in recent memory. I haven't even gotten round to some like Alan Wake 2 and Super Mario Wonder that I know are deserving of a shout. I played a fair few of them though and if I had to pick a top 5:
FFXVI Wild Hearts Resident Evil 4 Remake Lies of P Baldurs Gate 3
If I had to pick one, it's FFXVI. It has its flaws for sure, but no other game this year tapped into that childlike wonder and excitement at what was happening on screen, especially when the combat all clicks together. And to add to it, it got me to care about the events in the story. It's not enough to just be wowed by the spectacle but I was playing the game fighting for these characters at points which is a hard thing to get. That all gets amplified byt it having some of the best boss fights ever, looks amazing and a thunderous soundtrack. Perfect example of all these is a boss fight which leads to one of the best button prompts all year.
Would also give honorable mentions to Amnesia, Bramble, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, Armored Core 6, TOTK, Spiderman 2, Sea of Stars, Metroid Prime Remastered and Remnant 2

Cyberpunk Phantom Liberty hands down,
Don't have switch or ps5 so don't have long list of potential games and have not been buying lots of games as play them on gamepass
Sea of stars was good but not sure if its GOTY.

There's so much I haven't completed yet from bichii2's list: BG3, RE4, ACVI, Diablo 4, LOTF, Lies of P...I'm very close to finishing the last and it will likely end up being my runner-up GOTY if I do finish it, unless the final area or two completely ruins it (seems unlikely). But Wo Long was the game that I enjoyed the most. It doesn't out-Nioh Nioh, but it comes close. And it helped that it came out of nowhere for me, with zero hype. Lu Bu can fuck off, though. As usual.

Final Fantasy XVI for me, surprisingly.
Runner up was probably Resident Evil 4. It's been a mega year for games though, I've probably forgotten about 10 others.

Master Detective Archives: Rain Code is my favourite game of the year so far. I'd never played any of the Danganronpa games so it felt like nothing I'd played before. Looked amazing on the Switch, too (I still think it's the best looking Switch game)
Persona 5 Tactica on Friday is probably the only thing that could knock it off the top spot

I can never remember which games came out in the year I played them. I think so far this year I've played Metroid Remastered, Horizon: Burning Shores, and Baldurs Gate 3.
BG3 is absolutely fantastic. As a regular DnD player I am loving the chance to play my hobby in a new way. It's not 100% by the book play but it's working incredibly well. Had a couple of bugs and while that can cause some immediate frustration it is not impacting my enjoyment. My small fear is that I'm going so balls deep in my initial playthrough that I'll be slightly jaded at the thought of going through again for a platinum clean-up.

FF16 pips it for me, despite how excellent BG3 is. I realised games are the primary way I consume stories these days, so it's narrative was a huge high point for me, whereas I didn't really feel engaged with the BG3 story until very late in Act 2, which counts against it.
FF16 BG3 Metroid Prime Remastered Cities Skylines 2 Xenoblade 3 - Futures Redeemed
I'm sure I'd find a space for Spiderman 2 as well, but I'll be playing that over Christmas.

As I haven't played anything this year that has lived up to expectations, I couldn't care less about the result. It will either be the best of the games I haven't played or the least worst of the ones I have. So as far as I'm concerned you can put all the names in a hat and shove it up your arse draw one at random and that's as good an answer as any.
