BG3 is the only game I’ve played from this year. Or the last few years really. But it’s excellent so gets my vote.
I’ve been really struggling to find something to suit me and get my gaming mojo back. BG3s blend of exploration and turn based combat is perfect for me. sadly I seem to find real time stuff too stressful nowadays. My Souls days appear to be behind me.

I am enjoying Jusant quite a bit. Could that pip stray & turnip boy?
Certainly seems that smaller, shorter games are doing more interesting things than the copy&paste stuff of the bigger boys.
Not an AAA that hasn't disappointed me so far this year. Not a great year. It's probably Elden ring's fault for spoiling us last year. 😀
I'd try the lies of P, but i think i am avoiding soulslikes for now.

Will hopefully start Jusant proper this week. Now I don’t have to manage flipping between a Switch game and an Xbox one, given both use visual prompts on screen.

Baldur’s Gate 3
I’ve not finished it yet, but it’s the game I’ve spent the most time thinking about when I’m not playing it - usually a good sign it is both compelling and has lots of depth. On top of that, I’ve also often found myself thinking about how I’d approach a second playthrough differently. The last game that did that to me was Dragon’s Dogma, but BG3 has vastly more choices to make.
Most of all, it’s the quality of the writing and characters (and the brilliant cast who brings those characters to life) that does it. A thoroughly brilliant game.
Honourable mentions:
Horizon Forbidden West Burning Shores - really enjoyed this, but absolutely recognise that that enjoyment is in direct correlation to how much you liked the main game. In my case, I enjoyed them a lot! It moved Aloy on well as a character, delivered some spectacular visuals and was well worth the asking price.
Metroid Prime Remastered - just a quality remastering of one of the best games of all time. While the wait for MP4 looks like being a long one, it was a joy to come back to this.

For Snap I had to just go cold turkey (after a few failed attempts at moderating it) Probably helped that it reset on Tuesdays which was my day in the office, so I didn't get to play it as much as I did at home. Then Wednesday rolled around and I couldn't be arsed, then just carried on not playing.

Hogwarts Legacy is definitely top for me. TotK second, Forza and FC24 hanging behind. Spider-Man 2 would almost certainly be top but I'm waiting for it to get cheaper.

I actually think if it wasn't season based and didn't reset, or had a longer season, I'd still be hopelessly addicted. I found it too short a cycle and struggled to keep up, made it relatively easy to quit. Absolutely brilliant game but I dont miss it!

Most of my time is still spent in MSFS 2020. Think I may have finished one game this year....
Jusant was small and perfectly formed. Pleasantly surprised to see it ran pretty smoothly on my XSS, since I 'donated' my XSX to son #1.
Think 2024 will be another year of smaller games until MSFS 2024 turns up of course.

I'm trying to think to the start of the year and drawing a blank (what did I play!!), so at the moment it would be a toss up between Spider-Man 2 and Lies of P. I've only just started Hogwarts and I need to get back into BG3 as I've only clocked a few hours so far.

Don't commit as much time to games as I used to, and the game prices for a PS5 digital console owner are silly on the marketplace, how they still have a monopoly on that is puzzling, so I tend to come late to games
BG3 has been the exception, bought it day one. My GOTY easily. beyond the quality of the writing and direction it is outstanding value for money.
Other games not released this year but I picked them up late enjoyed and completed
Star Wars Fallen Order Artful Escape Disco Elysium

I guess it's bg3 then?
I'm not sure I'll play it. Bg2 is one of my favourite games of all time and I know I'll love 3 but I really can't be bother to play such a big game. Even the thought of starfield puts me off but I believe I can focus through that and get it done in 30+ hours. Everything I've read about bg3 is 100+.
I'm sure it's incredible though.

I didn't even really like Starfield all that much, yet my liking for looting, quests, lock-picking & generally sneaking about shooting raiders, I mean spacers, still meant I put about 100 hours into it.

Street Fighter 6It’s just fucking brilliant. I really need to actually play that. It's still sitting in it's wrapper. Even bought a wee Hori pad a couple of months ago.
Damn. More games than time to play them.

I don't think it's quite that long unless you hover up every side quest and go completionist. As doing it that way you hit the level cap with loads of time left.

Please be Destiny...
Also still funny that Cyberpunk is on this list.

Why is cyberpunk funny?
Launched in a mess on PS4 and Xbox one. Instead of abandoning it they spent the next year+ constantly patching it and now have re launched the game with multiple upgrades and launched an epic expansion.
All whilst communicating with the community of cyberpunk on what they were doing and why.
Yeah it shouldn't have launched at all on the old consoles but as far as community support they are up there.

Should you really get recognition for bringing a game up to a standard that should've been there in the first place?
Let's not forget it was in such a state that Sony took the unprecedented step of pulling it from their store.

Exactly. All they did was fix the mess they released and get it to what was originally advertised.

As redemption arcs go though it's nearly on a par with NMS. But yes. It should never have been released like that. Yet I cannot honestly think a dev is ever happy to let their digital babies out in the wild if they are defective to this extent. I don't pretend to understand game development, but I always feel sorry for devs when this kind of situation happens, and I do like it when they are able to turn things around and finally deliver what they are aiming for.

Although talking of NMS. What a fucking arc. Those guys deserve their own award anyway. Tirelessly, for YEARS, releasing free updates on their game, to the extent it's now far and above what was even originally promised.
I'll never bother to play it again of course, I simply can't be fucked. There's no denying what they've done though.

Wasn't MNS backlash at launch mainly due to the Peter Molyneux levels of over hype and lies? But yes they seem to have done a great job in recoveringover the years.

I agree that Cyberpunk doesn't deserve a place on that list, as CDPR simply brought the game to the standard in which it should've launched to begin with.
Yes, the expansion seems to be very good, but it was a paid product (unlike all the No Man's Sky updates, which were free).
As for not releasing on the "old consoles", CP2077 was originally announced in May 2012 - at that point, the PS4 and the Xbox One were unreleased, next-gen machines! It was always scheduled to launch on those platforms, and the failure to make sure it ran properly on them was CDPR's alone.
