I like McDonalds breakfasts - the breakfast wrap in pariticular is a decent fast breakfast snack. And their hash browns are very good.
For the other food, it is a bit weird but if you’re stuck in a mainline train station you cannot get anything which approaches the value of either the wrap of the day or a double cheeseburger. I mean, a pack of crisps in a station WHSmith approaches £1.80, so £1.99 for a wrap is extremely good value.

I've become a BK man of late, the burgers tipped me over despite their fries being objectively worse than Maccys. Tbf their a damn sight better than KFC fries which are just...squigy unseasoned potato sticks? XL Bacon Double Cheeseburger used to be my occasional uni treat after doing the shopping. KFC is probably preferred of those cheap fast food chains (zinger tower meal, with the hash brown), although you are correct about the rubbish chips. Not had any of them for years and years though. Can't say I hugely miss any of them (although this thread is giving me a bit of a craving).

Our local McDonald's also destroyed by ubereats etc, but their service is generally just terrible. But tbh ordering mcdonalds like food for delivery is like ordering a steak for delivery. It's going to arrive cold and terrible.

Zinger burgers 4 life!
Also agree the new KFC fries are great.
While we're talking junk...what the fuck is the big deal with chicken nuggets? They seriously taste like card board to me.

Was going to say before Dougs got in there I was surprised to find on my last visit how much the fries have improved. They were notoriously bad - to the point that they recommended not to order them if you were getting a delivery. But the new ones are up there with the best.

The best McDonalds I ever had was when I was travelling through the night to get to Dortmund in Germany. Because of a missed connection I didn’t get the sleeper train I was supposed to and ended up in Düsseldorf in the morning after a horrible trip on a Flix bus. With a two hour wait for the next train and on no sleep, the McDonalds coffee had never, ever tasted better.

I visited Rome not too long ago and spent the day poncing around the Vatican City. I was flipping ravenous afterwards and asked the tour guide where could I get some food. He was recommending all these wonderful sounding places - “not the tourist places, the real places where the locals eat” which I heard a lot in Rome.
As I was a tourist I ended up in the first place I saw - McDonalds - and it was the best meal I’ve ever had because I was so hungry. I actually ranked it above The Sistine Chapel in the days highlights.
Viva la McDonalds!

When my Uncle worked in Europe, he would always seek out McDonald’s, on the grounds that you know what you’re getting from them. As someone who isn’t risk adverse, I don’t generally rate McDonalds outside of the breakfasts, the 1/4lb cheeseburger or liccle cheeseburger. Some of the specialty burgers can be fine.

Do KFC UK still do Zinger Tower Burgers?
I basically lived on those for most of my 20s. There was a KFC opposite the cinema, and I used to skate there a few nights a week, have a zinger and watch a movie.
KFC Japan has never done Zinger Tower Burgers. I am sad.
Back then, KFC UK fries were fine. They were like McD fries, but the salt came in a separate packet so you could add only half and fool yourself that you were being healthy.
KFC Japan fries are awful. You get about 6 bland fries that look and taste like slightly undercooked oven chips in a small paper bag. Twisters are ok though.

Yep. Tower Burgers are a KFC staple. Currently being heavily advertised here in the UK.
One thing KFC do right is their PR and marketing.

I would only eat at a KFC but we took the decision as a white middle class family to only eat/buy free range chicken so it’s a no-no for us for now.
Don’t eat Mcd’s or BK either as they are just shite on a bun.
Completely hypocritically the only burger place we do is Five Guys as it seems to have the appearance of ‘quality’
We were making regular overpayments on the mortgage but we stop when we plan to go Five Guys as a family.

I would say the only appearance of quality from Five Guys is the price. The burger is about on par with a Maccy D's or BK, but the price is along the lines of one of those fancy (comparatively) burger restaurants like GBK or Byron. I've only been once, so maybe I just had a bad experience, but found it really disappointing. Chips were great though.

Yeah I'm not sure why Five Guys gets a ton of praise when it's not much different from BK, Urban Burger etc.
KFC can be great but I find it's completely pot luck as to the quality of chicken you get due to the franchise system.

Totally agree that it’s not an amazing burger. I think it is better than mcds and BK though. Also think the environment is better. I’m under no illusions that it’s still junk food though.
We took the little one for our first ever family dining out. She couldn’t sit in anywhere else for various reasons and we have never been out as a family in 7 years because of that. FG (ha!) will always have a special place because of that.

What the heck is Five Guys? McDonald's but ghetto chic style and triple the price. Famous for providing fries to you in the same way delivery companies use packing foam.

I used to quite like Five Guys pre-pandemic but the last time I went there it was absolutely shite, so I stopped going. I think they were trying on a bit shrinkflation as the bun was a thin soggy mess that just fell apart when I tried to eat it.
I don't think I've set foot in a McDonalds in the last 10 years, and not more than a handful in the last 20, surely it's somewhere people stop going to voluntarily as adults when they stop being so vulnerable to the marketing? That said my Dad used to absolutely despise them but it was the first place we went to when he visited me in Japan just because he knew what it was so there's something to be said for familiarity I suppose.
KFC Japan might not have Zinger Tower burgers but they do have chicken pot pies in the winter, which I miss. Speaking of which I really lament the passing of Eat as an alternative to Pret for lunches. Using the apps to decide whether to get Pret soup of day or Eat pot pie of the day was a golden age.

Eat was a strange one. I would go in expecting something great and then be confronted with maybe 3 sandwiches at the side. Where was all the food? It was quite bizarre. And did things need heated up? Where was the menu? Did the person take it off you and heat it up? Wtf. I never actually ate in the place as it was so confusing.

Ha, Five Guys. Only been once, went with my eldest son as we both hadn't tried it. 2 double burgers, 2 medium fries, 2 medium milkshakes. All yours for £36.00! Blimey. And I'm looking out at Walthamstow High Street, not the Hollywood sign. But the food was good, freshly made to order, fries cooked in peanut oil, and proper fruit in the milkshakes. Should have ordered smaller sizes of everything. Haven't been back.

There's something addictive about McDonalds, despite the burgers being objectively worse than most other options. I assume they put cocaine or something in them. The problem is that after eating McDonalds I'm always really hungry. They're like anti-food.
I haven't tried the Chicken Pot Pies, so I'll give those a go.
Does KFC uk have the 'biscuits'? As in, the US meaning of 'biscuit', not the proper one? I avoided those for ages but they're actually pretty good.
I would check, but apparently I've been blocked from the kfc.co.uk website?!

Like everyone in lockdown, I bought an mini-fryer from Aldi for like 20 quid and the easiest recipe is Doritos chicken. Roll some chicken in flour, then egg, then crushed Doritos and fry the shit out of it. The cheese ones are nice but the flamin' hot ones are pretty god like redneck food.

If you're ever in Hereford make sure you got to Beefy Boys for a burger, they're great. They have lovely beers too.
We were there a few weeks back and I'm thinking of excuses to go back to Hereford so we can go again.
