Feel like a philistine that gets on pretty well with most of the fast food chains to be honest, usually something I can tolerate in all of them.
Big Mac from McDonald's, XL Bacon Double Cheeseburger from Burger King and Zinger Stacker in KFC are my go to.
Really should have sworn off KFC to be honest, the Milton Keynes Stadium branch gave me salmonella poisoning 6 years ago and I spent an entire weekend curled up in the fetal position shitting blood. What can I say I'm a glutton for punishment.
Really like the German Doner Kebab place near me as well. Got a Slim Chickens as well that isn't too bad.

I’m fine with all of them too, although I never bother with subway. Seems good to appreciate that sort of food as well as proper fine dining.

Pub burgers are nearly always those frozen Brakes Bros patties, it’s a no from me

Half and half definitely isn't just a Welsh thing as a curry one was a requirement back in my drinking days here in Belfast, can get it with most sauces, with most meals and is half of a standard snack box. Now I want a takeaway but it's not Thursday yet.
Think there's 8 pizza places on a one mile stretch of road here which has to be some kind of money laundering thing. There's one directly facing me and it's absolutely my depression buy, and it tastes exactly how you'd imagine a £10 pizza, chips and can to cost.

Wanky hipster pubs usually have great burgers. If you go for the toned down version that doesn't have 5000 toppings anyway.

Pub burgers are always terrible. Either bad components or, if they get them right, they pile it so high you need a knife and fork to eat it and that annoys the shit out of me

Until recently subway was my absolute go to. Ten years ago their lunch deal was unbeatable. £5 for a footlong and drink. Spicy Italian on hearty Italian bread, peppers, gherkins, olives and jalapeño's, and mayo. It was amazing back then.

Speaking of burgers, I vaguely remember something like a Bruce Lee burger in TGI's years back, had fried crispy noodles and all sorts. Really liked it but never seen it on the menu since.

Pretty much every gastropub round here is a Mitchell & Butler so all the menus are identical, basically Miller & Carter Steakhouse minus the steaks. The burger is ok, get bored of it quickly. Doesn’t feel “wrong” enough like a McDo does

One thing that the fast food places do right that 90% of pubs don’t is the bun. Seriously, fuck brioche. Too sweet. Too buttery. And dissolves in the patty juice.

Yep remember it and ordered it. Was good. In fact I rate most of their burgers, they mostly pass the "hold in one hand" test.

Went to TGI’s this weekend for a family treat and it was bad. Dreadful service, they’d plainly forgotten to bus our meals out as they were lukewarm and it cost just shy of £100 for three people, one sub teen with a very small appetite. Only had one beer in that too, as they didn’t seem to want to serve us when I ran out. Full rack of ribs was certainly a salty eat with no drink.
Ain’t going back in a hurry, and I went there for the first time in years in Spring and pretty much loved it.
Anyway back to actual fast food, Maccies can really hit the junk spot IF you get it fresh, which means going in person and going early in the afternoon, either just before noon or close afterwards. Getting it delivered is disastrous.
Was in Tenerife earlier in the year and the Macdonalds in Las Americas was fantastic, with far more variety on the menu, better cooking, and far less greasiness. Was genuinely a nice eat for that sort of thing.

If the burger is tasty enough it can work well, otherwise as you say it can overwhelm very easily. The key there is that it must be lightly toasted to ‘just right’ standard. Otherwise it comes to resemble that one bloke from Robocop with the toxic waste. Any Mancunians here ever get to a place called The Grinch? It closed down either slightly before or during the Covid thing, and was an absolute staple haunt of my wider family. Miss it so much as it had the best burgers ever.

I don't like beefburgers (it's a texture thing) so it's always chicken burgers if at Maccies. I think a lot of the time it depends on your state - hangover, definitely Maccies or KFC. Pissed, kebab or pizza all the way. I still remember the doners from Antalya kebab shop in Blackfen when at uni. The chilli source was heavenly, the kebab meat griddled after being taken off the elephant's foot. Sensational.

Denton Kebab & Curry House did the most amazing Donner & Chicken Tikka on Naan, salad chilli sauce with ghee chips. I'm salivating now. It was like a fucking drainpipe and absolutely fresh and delicious.

Forgot I made this thread…
Steakhouse Stack - McDonalds
They make the curious choice of pairing onions with those crispy onion bits that come out of a shaker, but that won’t matter as you won’t taste anything over the peppercorn sauce that overpowers the whole burger.
4/10 - recommended side: antibiotics for a sinus infection.

Five Guys little cheeseburger 6/10
The patty is nice but the bun disintegrated half way through eating, which is one of my bug bears, so I deduct 2 points despite it tasting nice.
Oh and as usual way too many chips.

I like their lettuce as a bun thing.
I also agree that the steakhouse stack is shite. Peppery shite

All the kids in the family that are old enough to knock round city centres without supervision rave about Wing Stop.
Took ours on her birthday to the one in the Trafford Centre ostensibly so she could jump on the trend but really because I’m a hot wing addict.
Absolute sh*te. The wings had little meat and are barely crisped, rubbery outside and dry inside. Came across as a very British interpretation where they completely miss the point.
Their ‘original’ sauce was like watered down Franks and their Mango Hot sauce, ranked second hottest in the place, was unpleasant. Not particularly hot and unpleasantly sweet.
Barely any tingle either when eating or the morning after if I’m being honest.
Other half had their boneless ‘wings’ with a lemon and herb dry rub and they actually tasted quite good.
The chips were alright.
About £35 for two servings of wings, one dirty fries, one kid’s meal, one soft drink and one beer (the f*cking ubiquitous Camden Hells).
4.5/10

I’m still yet to find a reliable wing outlet myself. There is a pretty good stall in Borough Market but that’s not particularly convenient.

Popeye's chicken tenders, in Reading. Surprisingly bland crispy coating.
Spicy spuds, from Alibaba's pizza in Ivybridge. These are a Plymouth and environs speciality and you should try them. Chuncks of potato, deep fried in KFC spicy coating. 10/10

One thing I wish every place would do as standard is say whether their wings are breaded / battered or not. Because I’m in the camp that strongly disagrees with breading or battering wings.

Greggs Cheese & Ham Toastie - 9/10
Tried recently as a local Greggs had nothing else left and I'm now addicted. Mature cheese, ham, bachamel sauce which extra mature cheese to the outer.
When they toast it instore, the inside goes suitably gooey, the bread crisp, while fluffy inside... Incredible stuff.
