Belongs in the bin along with the freaks that have Crisps in their sandwiches. What, you want me to just straight up add salt to my sandwich? What about the crunch, man?

Ooh, McCain’s frozen chips are a disgrace! They’re only real chips if they come from the Maris Pipére region of France! … Wedges? Basically chips mate Don't misrepresent my very nuanced views on fried potatoes.

Chip butty with butter and lots of vinegar is heavenly.
See also cheese and pickle sandwich with salt and vinegar crisps inside.
And lasagna and chips is top tier for me.
I LOVE CARBS

Back home from Mexico and ready to enjoy all the shit fast food Ireland has to offer in the next couple of weeks. Started with a 4 in 1 from the Chinese last night, which is rice, chips, curry sauce and chicken wedged into a plastic container, dripping with MSG. Was bloody gorgeous. Not sure whether a chicken kebab or a pizza is next up. Tell us about what you ate in Mexico FFS.

Generally eats lots of amazing seafood where I’m living now by the Caribbean, but Mexico City is heaven for food. So affordable, so tasty, so much variety. Can go to the restaurants I could never dream of going when I lived in San Francisco, so fast food kind of takes a back seat. Proper street tacos of Al pastor or suadero are from the gods though. 5 tacos for £2 or less is pretty common. This place was 2 blocks from my house for instance maps.app.goo.gl/ixiD9EMBxPnHZQLW6?g_st=ic

Lizard, what *good* fast food/takeaway do they do over there? Loads. Pies are ubiquitous, almost all petrol stations and corner shops will have a heater full of pies. The quality is variable, but lots are really good. Fried chicken too, which you can also get from corner shops along with the crispy chips. Sushi is loads better here. There's also Burger Fuel, which is a mid-tier fast food place - much better than Maccers, but not like a hipster burgerwanker joint. Lots of options for kebabs, falafel etc. I've mentioned it before, but Domino's and Pizza Hut are dirt cheap here, you can get a large pepperoni pizza for less than 5 GBP. And they're okay, obviously barrel-bottom quality, but they generally taste all right. They also have 'roast' places, which are a bit like greasy spoons but with... roasts. You choose a plate size and a type of meat, they add a pile of veges and some gravy. TBH these roasts are always pretty tasteless, but you get a lot for your money. And to whoever asked, Burger King is Burger King here. Hungry Jacks only for Aussies.

Those “Roast” places sound lush. Like a Toby Carvery basically?
Also the biggest surprise about your rant was the fish - I always assumed that NZ had excellent fish, but maybe I’m getting confused with parts of Australia. Although if the sushi is banging it does indicate that it’s good in some places..?

When we went to Disney World over Xmas, we had lunch at a place that does thanksgiving dinner ‘all year round’.
I’d never heard of ‘family style’ before but it seems to mean that they put a trough in the middle of your table and just keep filling it up with food.

Not like a Toby Carvery, more like a cross between a greasy spoon and a school/work canteen and generally deeply average. They are okay if you want something fast that isn't burger, pizza etc, and you get a dose of veg. There's one in Newtown called Baycourt Roasts that people say is good, should give it a try. As for fish, loads of awesome fish in NZ, just not from the fish and chip shop.

There was a chain called Fuzzy’s Grub in London for a while, did roast dinners/roast dinner sandwiches for the office crowds. A friend of mine loved it, his parents visited from Yorkshire and he insisted on taking them to the city just to get a very average roast dinner lunch

I miss the Yorkshire Burrito stall that used to be in Rupert St. Market. They'd take a large round flat Yorkshire pudding and wrap the rest of the roast (chicken/beef, potatoes, gravy) inside. Was perfect for a lunch.
edit: looks like they've got some locations in Camden now

I had a Hot Honey Peperoni pizza from Pizza Hut on Sunday...it was actually pretty damn good!
Sweet and spice levels that build gradually till your mouth is on fire. I gobbled up an entire medium pizza.
The shits the next day were interesting too.

I can confirm honey with chilli on pizza is pretty special. One of those it shouldn’t work but it does things.

I'd mount a defense of NZ fish and chips but to be honest last time I had it I didn't feel great after.
I'm surprised UK chip shops haven't folded en masse, I think my local one had cod for about 10 - 12 quid, it must be a hefty bill if you are feeding a family. Though I suppose burgers sit around that price point, so naybe I don't have a point.
I think I'd like a steak and cheese pie though. Followed by 4 rennies because I can't eat pastry.

No, you have a point. Going to the chippy was the one takeaway you could regularly have once a week even on a small budget. Having a burger was a treat growing up, fish and chips was just a regular Friday night dinner. Now not so much. Although I did have a chicken tikka kebab and a cone of chips last Friday, was about £8.

Our local does smaller "cod bites" and chips. Smaller pieces fries separately. It's probably much less fish, but tbh a whole fish portion is huge, and this makes it affordable. And you get a good amount of crunch...

Are the Yorkshire pudding places still going in York? Had one from a local place here called Hoggies. Stuffed with roast pork, gravy roasted tatos, pork cracking and gravy. Rolled up like a massive burrito in foil. Also had a box of the taters with beef gravy just cos. Was full all day

The new McDonalds Breakfast Wrap (with brown sauce). New, because it now has two eggs, and the previous version had one.
Not as tasty as I remember the old one, too much egg.

Went to a baseball game and had a "3 Meat Teriyaki Burger"
It was a burger, plus bacon, plus a teriyaki chicken breast, all in one bun. No vegetables or any of that muck, luckily.
It was very meaty.

I live way too close to a McD’s.
The Hat Trick - McDonalds
Now we’re talking. Just three patties, the right amount of cheese, relish and a decent bun. No gimmicks needed.
I’d have it again over a Five Guys. Probably.
9/10

Bit late, but at the UK boardgames expo at the NEC went for a burger and fries at some food kiosk.
It was actually amazing. Thick patty, good cheese. It was just far better than I expected.
The fries were great too, perfect combination of crisps exterior and very fluffy, soft innards.
I was expecting a 6 or 7 but it was a strong 8/10. And actually at 10 quid I thought a reasonable price, especially at a convention centre.

KFC Spicy Twister. Good. Since we don't get zinger tower burgers over here I'll have to make do.
A KFC has just opened within walking distance of my house. This may become an issue.
