Recently picked this up on PC, looks quite good but not had a lot of game time on it. It seems to prefer to slowly update.
Still anyone got any recommendations for some sort of affordable, say up to 100 pound, euro, sheckel type of controller I can add as I only have the keyboard. Suppose a PS4 controller can be used but anything else to make it easier?

I guess that is what I was asking even if I didn't know it. Thank you! Looking at them now, I knew this game was going to be a rabbit hole.
Of course this can be a general thread, not just me asking noob questions, which I will.

Cheers guys, my emails suggest to me that I ordered a T Flight at around midnight last night. Thankfully it looks like its somewhat useful and PS4 compatible too so thanks for the tip.

I've been playing this since the Xbox version arrived on Game Pass. It can get a little fiddly on the controller, and I'm pretty sure the AI Pilot is trying to fuck me over when I've let it take over so I can sort out the trim.
Have I goofed, or missed something obvious?

Turning on AI flight assist literally just turns on the autopilot, and if you haven't got that properly setup it won't work well. If you have an actual flight plan setup it should be auto configured to follow that, but if you don't it'll probably just plummet out the air. Also it's probably setup by default to automatically trim anyway so turning it on to trim also will be a bad idea.
EDIT: Although to be clear there are subtle differences between proper plane autopilot and the AI flight controls, but yeah, same principles probably apply. You're trying to adjust something the AI or autopilot is trying to maintain itself and probably turning it all off by doing so.

The AI pilot loves to fly my Icon A5 into my local mountain when I select the north side of my local farm runway.

I'll figure it. I've pretty much lost this afternoon to it, especially being able to use Remote Play too. Just been cruising around places I've been on holiday, my house, etc.
The autopilot – sorry, AI Pilot – fucked me in Iceland: I was flying from Reyjkavik to Selfoss, was checking where I was on the flight computer, then all of a sudden I'm climbing vertically before plunging back to earth. Really not sure what it was playing at. My latest flight around Seattle seemed alright though – it kept me on the straight and narrow while I gawped.

I've just managed to get a score of 2 on a (allegedly easy) landing challenge. Has anyone manged to get a score of 1?

Not yet!
Taking off in the jumbo: piece of piss. Landing: nah.
I had a blast on the Discovery tour around Everest last night. Woah. I got suckered in by the sunset, the music, the mountains themselves. I tried landing at the nearest remote landing strip, got beneath the cloud and the golden sunlight was beautiful.
Sadly the airstrip was too short for the speed I was carrying and I died.

Has anybody got suggestions for amazing flights?
Have done all the discovery and world update flights and am mesmerised by this game. How the little series X can do this is insane. I'm 45, been gaming since age 6, and this is the most nuts game I've ever played. It's what 9 yo me imagined might one day be possible.
Also can you get the stirring music to play on the flights from the globe?

Doing the US Bush Trip without GPS or using the Back On Track was an absolutely amazing experience for me. Doing it full VFR and even having to pull up airport maps on a tablet etc was brilliant and challenging. Lasts a good few hours, but is broken up into stages so easy to do in chunks.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=srtoNL9MdAUWorld update 6 next week for Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Also 19th August a F14 Tomcat with working wings is on the pc store, not study level so I'll probably pick it up as my only fighter before the free dlc for Top Gun 2.

When is the Top Gun DLC actually out? Looking forward to being able to cover large distances in short times.

I love this game. I feel myself starting to nerd out looking up the various autopilot controls, jumping into a new plane and recognising bits and pieces from earlier whips.
Did a tour of New Zealand’s Fiordland earlier and landed at Queenstown. There was some fucker taxiing on the runway as I landed! Thankfully I ghosted through them, but I ended up parking the plane in somebody’s backyard.
Here’s a question: without the guides for the entry pattern, how do I determine the correct approach: how do I know what’s downwind?

The ATC tower will tell you the wind direction and strength if you are using comms. Usually they will guide you so you are landning against the wind.

Thanks gamma: slowly getting better. I’m enjoying multi-hop journeys in remote places like Patagonia, Iceland, and Greenland. Even took off from the Belgrano base in Antarctica… quite a long way to get anywhere.

I'm heading that way. I tried to do a multi-hop trip around Iceland (pretty murky this morning!), but I take it you can't do ad-hoc route planning? In the Cub I can at least tinker with the touchscreen sat-nav ( ), but not sure how to set a new destination.

Some of the pattern entry guides are a bit deceiving. (I know the size and scale means not everything can be manually verified) Flew into Aosta, turned the pattern on and it led through the side of the valley. The AI pilot was quite happily going to put the plane into the floor 🥴

This barely works for me on Xbox. On several screens, literally the only controller input that does anything is B to go back to the previous screen. I've got this on PC too (the Game Pass version) - is that what's messing my controls up? Seem to remember reading something along those lines.

Fark. I’m turning into a right nerd. Flew around the mountains which surround the Königsee in Germany and even got my map out to help my fly VFR. Didn’t help it was a huge thunderstorm which meant to clear the mountains I had to fly in cloud.
Then had a spell in an Airbus doing a jaunt from Venice to Dubrovnik. When you’ve got Autopilot and all those waypoints, it’s a piece of piss! 😂
ETA: I’d seen Smoothpete flying over London so tried to join, but couldn’t spot him for toffee once in the air.

The download for this finally finished yesterday, so I tried to start a flight from Heathrow, but the plane was facing a building for some reason and I didn't have enough space to turn it around and take off.
So, erm... any good noob guides around?

So, erm... any good noob guides around? Haha, yes: I’ve got a walkthrough bookmarked. To avoid needing a pushback and starting all the engines, pick a runway rather than ramp or gate at a big airport. You’ll be primed and ready for take off. Otherwise you’d have needed to engage Cursor Mode and talk to the ATC for clearance etc.

If you zoom in on the world map selecting your flight you see the runways and if your not bothered with all the starting up just put yourself on the runway, it'll load in ready started with a parking brake on only.
I have a few basic problems, TIMEAPPROACH on my nav target instead of the actual time until approach which use to be handy. Also a bunch of controller and flight stick problems which may just be the DLC planes, throttle being erratic and unable to slow them down. Still nice to fly the Icon near where I live, changed Swansea to googlemaps data off a mod site and following the road markings is great but the floor level like in google earth vr has an effect on trees and cars that does ruin things a little.
