Sim Update 10 beta is available, for those brave enough to try it. DLSS, which people are saying has a dramatic performance boost, and, probably of most interest to cockpit builders, finally multi monitor support, different views on different screens.

DLSS has been great so far in VR. Slight blur increase, but I’ve been able to push a lot of the settings from medium to high or ultra, and still get a significant framerate increase. DX12 still sucks though.

More importantly, it brings back Meigs Field, aka the airport you started on in every other MSFS. And helicopters and gliders. Ah, brings back memories of FS on C64 but mainly the hours I spent on FSII on the Atari ST. Got it all updated so will be trying out the Spruce Goose and helos later. By all accounts they are quite tricky. |

I’m a fan of the Beaver, from Blackbird née MilViz. Nice radial engine, lots of steam gauges, easy to fly.

Love the gliders, it’s quite a thing in VR with the fully transparent canopy. There seem to be some server troubles though, and each time it disconnects you need to click ok because the controls stop working.

I don't really mind spending more money considering the time spend in FS2020, but the community is not happy about this. The sentiment is that a lot of stuff never got fixed in 2020. I tend to agree, performance in VR is still bad.

I think my GamePass sub will still be in flight, so as long as the existing addons work seamlessly (ie not waiting months for an update, or for PMDG to try and sell another version of the 737), it’s all good.

New world update dropped today, another UK and Ireland pack. Dublin, Cork, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Newcastle, Leeds and London, along with a few rural bits. Elland Road now looks like a football stadium instead of a random slab of industrial estate. Hooray! Found my eldest's old student digs around Leeds Uni. They've done a great job with the photogrammetry - though they are missing the overflowing bins and rats. A nice update though and had a good wiz around Leeds and Liverpool - both looking pretty complete and relatively up to date. Anfield/Goodison remain the models from the previous update - I never like the handcrafted stuff as it sticks out against the PG stuff. |

Fired it up on PC to check out some of the new updates. I'd forgotten what an absolute pain in the tits the content updater can be. Ended up just setting that to download everything (eventually!) and scheduling my PC to shut down in a couple of hours, as I'd lost the desire to touch it by then.

They are making a lot of promises, but I remain sceptical. They’ve also said they are treating VR as it’s own platform, instead of being tacked on like in 2020, I really really hope that’s true.

OK, today has seen a deluge of new footage via invited YT channels etc. It is going to be pricey, it is going to need a decent internet connection and if the results from a mid-range setup look half way to what I've seen then I'll be very happy. |
