I enjoyed Upstart Crow a lot. Its basically more Blackadder in a lot of ways.
Agree on Kempe being a bit jarring, although occasionally he hits at just the right moment and gets a big laugh out of me.

Spaced is 25 years old today Lets talk about whether its better than Alien 3 25 years! It's still the best sitcom ever made. That said I'm too scared to watch it these days to see how much it's aged.

re Upstart Crow, there's another David Mitchell vehicle dropping tomorrow on the BBC - Ludwig - which has had good previews
I've not hugely loved anything he's done since peep show but I keep trying

Bottom for Baldrick, Marlow for Flashheart, etc. I've only seen a few but they stood out already. Not a dig, by the way. It's fun to see an old fashioned sitcom again.

to the extent i understand the biology it should be fairly mild as dying goes - asphyxia but without the sensation of suffocation due to that stress response coming from build up of carbon dioxide rather than lack of oxygen
of course interviews with people who've died as a result are rather thin on the ground so it could be grim
sams are on 116 123 in the uk. please call them if any of this crosses your mind people

About to finally finish Ghosts, so maybe Upstart Crow should be next on my list. I've always dismissed it as a pale imitation of Blackadder, so not tried it.

First series is still all right. Watched it with my lad a few years back after we did the cornetto trilogy, which he loved. Still need to watch the second series again though. It has dated, but not that much and it mostly holds up imo. I should do a green wing run through some time too.

Spaced makes a regular appearance on rotation. 2nd series isn't quite as tight but it's still very good.

2 goes heavier on the parodies which is where it feels the most dated.
Also I prefer Daisy's look in series 1, it went with her character better.

I think Pegg has acknowledged that taking the lead and going bigger with the overt parodies was maybe a mistake in series 2. Its the Matrix ones which really date it for me. I do still love both though.

Very good but seems to have escaped the notice of a lot of people.

Teachers was uneven but the Andrew Lincoln series in particular still kind of hold up. It is great nostalgia tv these days. Good cast (and James Cordon) that went on to bigger things, pre smart phones so still relates to 'our' school experiences and a banging soundtrack. It is quite laddy in that 90s way but a lot of the humour comes from those attitudes meeting professional reality.

American sitcom Cheers set to be adapted for British viewers
I'm having nightmares about potential casting already.
Jack Whitehall as Sam! ---- arghhh!
James Corden as Norm --- NOOOOOOOOO!

That was a Michael Caine/Bob Hoskins film. Are you thinking of Early Doors?

They should set it in a spoons, as all the other pubs are gastropubs now.

British Cheers was filmed before a live studio audience, in association with CAMRA.
British Sam - "You want another one British Norm?" British Norm - "With these prices? One's all I can afford." British Sam - "Oh."
Audience sadly laugh.
British Cheers closes down along with all the other British pubs that are closing every year a few weeks later.
