Just installed the Steam version of Quake II Remastered. Fantastic stuff.
(The soundtrack is included in OGG format, within the folder labelled "rerelease")
The lack of 64 in the launch options had me puzzled, until I realised it's nestled within the game menu itself:
Graphics Options
CRT Filter, on & off
Quake II 64:

Had a quick blast through the first level there. The happy memories. It’s fucking immense.

I'm amazed at the price, the content you get for it and the disparity between it and Red Dead 1.

Had a slight problem, quake2ex_steam.exe got flagged for quarantine by Avira. Verified integrity of game files, 155 had to be reacquired?
All working well again now, buttery smooth performance at 3840 x 2160 @144fps.
The upscaled intro movie is gorgeous, although hitting the screenshot key automatically skipped it.
You can use the inventory wheels even if you're using keyboard and mouse.
The lighting and shadows are great.
I had forgotten about those fucking dog things with the ropey tongues.

Yes, me too. Recently played RTX but didn’t realise you needed the base game (or settle for shareware).

Does buying this unlock the full version of the RTX game?

Physical versions from LRG coming as well, nice. And a vinyl soundtrack. Does buying this unlock the full version of the RTX game? Yeah, you'll need to download the RTX mod separately though and copy the pak0.pak file and OGG music files from the remastered version into the Quake2RTX folder.

It mentioned a new expansion pack IIRC, the machine one mentioned in one of the screenshots.

The id Vault mentions that early versions of maps are playable?

I loved Quake 3 multiplayer on 360, might get this. Though then I'd have to sub to PS plus..
Anybody played Deathmatch on psn?
We need more arena shooters.

I could play it on my laptop I'd imagine..I'll have to buy this regardless to support the devs, as they seem to have gone above and beyond for a fantastic price.

You'd want a mouse but it's worth a go. Bots will be good enough for some entertainment if you've only ever played it on console. The extra control/movement you get with mouse and keyboard is essential to the game in my opinion. Check out some trick videos on YT

Looks great for all the extra content, but I do already have RTX. For the base game, that still feels like the best way to play a modernised version (if you can run it).
This also makes me sad that they still don't show this level of love for my preferred Quake, the original.

I thiiiiiiiiiiink the RTX version of Portal was as well.

Oh, I didn't know there is a Quake 1 remaster! I retract my statement then.

This is amazing. Also, while Quake 1 was basically perfect already, here they actually went the trouble of rebalancing the enemy AI to make the game more challenging (one of the biggest problems with Q2 was always that it was much easier than Q1). As far as I could see in the first unit, most enemies can now attack while moving, will dodge more effectively, and if you circle strafe they will try to lead the target.
New graphics look pretty great without going overboard with graphical effects like some source ports do. You can disable head bobbing. You also get (optional) directional damage markers and objective arrows.
All of this, plus it contains all of the available expansions, the N64 version, and even a new episode? This is how you do a remaster. I wonder if Take 2 is watching.
