If they fixed Q4, sure I might buy it. There's a good game underneath, it just needs... extensive restructuring.

You know, I've always wondered what a single player Quake 3 would have been like. Maybe it would have been closer to Doom? I always figured that Q1 and Q2 had a reduced enemy count and smaller maps in order not to tax too much the meager CPUs of the time.

I think my two abiding menories of Quake IV are "The bodies in space intro sequence" and a sense of "I would recognise this as a Raven Software game without being told because it feels like them"

Oh yeah it's very Raven. I've always had a soft spot for their stuff though.

Sweet, it's a free update if you already have Quake 2 on steam! Which is really bloody generous.
The Q1 remaster was excellent (and also free if you already owned it). I even re-bought it on Switch. Plus they all have cross-play now.
I love that these remasters also leave the original files intact, so they don't take away the chance to play it as it originally was, unlike a lot of cash-grab remasters.
Never played Q2 multiplayer. Enjoyed the single-player at the time, although I felt like Q2 was considered the weakest of the original trilogy.

Yeah. Loved the first one but the second was weird.

I honestly feel kinda bad that they're giving these remasters free to existing owners. Isn't that 95% of their target audience? And it doesn't feel like these were cheap remasters to do either.

Why is it bad to reward your customers? Everyone who worked on it still got paid. I don't know, call me crazy but I think Microsoft owned Bethesda can easily afford it.

It's not bad. I just feel kinda guilty about getting it all for free.
I mean, I assume they know what they're doing business wise.

Yeah. Loved the first one but the second was weird. It was released at a time when shooters changed from run gun of Quake to a more tactical approach and with that came, mandatory stealth sections, CPU allies and also stupid, stupid hitscan enemies. I just had a flashback to the jungle level. You know what, I've just been looking at GOG for some old game and I remembered I don't own Vampire Bloodlines digitally, only on disc. I'm sick with gastric bug so I'm going to get it and play that as well as Q2.

More free updates, Bill! More! But yeah, it’s nice that it’s free for pre-existing owners. Plus they still have loads of money to make on PS and Switch. Xbox is murkier, with their games being free on Game Pass. What’s nice is the $10 price for what’s loads of content. That’s definitely the Bethesda and/or Microsoft publishing side, because Nightdive’s self-published remasters aren’t that cheap. They’re usually in the $30 range.

I have q2 on CD, as it is pre-steam. don't think I have it on steam, so I would have to purchase.
I'm not sure you can do the circle strafe jumping with a controller, so only m+k is canon.

Heh. It'll be on Nightdive's KEX engine now, right? No more quirks.

As for this, it is also free on GOG for existing owners day 1 which is nice as Q1 remaster was heavily delayed there. Wonder if you have to log into bethesda.net to get the N64 version etc... Odd they didn't stick the PS1 version on there too for people who remembered it (and Saturn Quake on the first remaster which also had quite a few differences). I may buy the Switch physical for posterity... (as I bought the Q1 Remaster physical)

(as I bought the Q1 Remaster physical) Yeah, but remasters like Powerslave or Shadow Man or Blood didn't give you the update for free if you had the original game, nor were they this cheap, which is why I'm also kinda inclined to think this is due to the Microsoft money. Btw, unlike Quake 1, it doesn't look like there's any option to log onto Bethesda.net here. No downloadable content to activate either - Q2 N64 is only listed as a selectable episode.

Haven't played the Blood games in a WHILE.
I wonder if ol'Phil will get on Hexen when the Activision deal goes through?

I was more comparing with the $30 pricing. Nice that Q364 is just on the menu, the less DRM on these things the better. And yeah, Microsoft funding may be a factor in the pricing. As for Q4, it would be nice to see that one done as well to cover all of the single player Quakes. Personally, I would have little interest in III.

Really want this bundle, but I'm another saddo who's been playing Q2 RTX this year and it looks phenomenal... I wonder if someone will find a way to add the RTX stuff to this at some point.
