Doom 64 is in the Doom remaster as well.
[edit] no it's not!

Thought Doom64 was just sold seperately? Quake64 was in the Quake remaster though.

Hmm. I'll check later. I haven't played it, but I thought I saw it in there.

Yeah, Doom 64 is a separate purchase.

It came free if you got Doom Eternal at launch, you might have it from that.

Oh no. The railgun is one of my favourite guns ever
Oh there's another page. That was in reply to the post about railgun not being as good in the remaster

I tried multiplayer and I couldn't hit a thing with the railgun (console)

So I finished The Reckoning last night. It's bloody big. I don't think I loved it but it definitely had it's moments. Harder than the base game as well, particularly towards the end where it did start to feel a little unfair at times and receiving damage was unavoidable. Ground Zero is up next. Enjoy the turrets! Find it sad they nerfed the railgun in this, it does about 2/3s of the damage it did in the original release. Ha. I heard about the turrets. If it fucks me off too much I'll just ditch it and move on to the Machinegames one.
Did they actually nerf it? I seem to recall it always taking two shots to put down a gunner with it.

It's mostly noticeable against the flying enemies, it used to 2 shot them but it takes 3 now. Basically in the config files the railgun in base Q2 had separate damage values for MP and SP, it was configured to do 100 in MP but 150 in SP. They've combined the two into just a single 100 damage value now.
For what it's worth, the turrets in Ground Zero have a lot less health now in the remaster, so they are a bit less irritating.

Ah, yes I noticed that for the Icarus. The gunner must just be on the threshold healthwise so it still puts him down in two. I definitely don't use it as much as I thought I would and I'm sure I used to. That must be why.

I remember just running around shooting the railgun at nothing, because it looked so cool at the time.

Thought Doom64 was just sold seperately? Quake64 was in the Quake remaster though. Yeah you're right, must have been mixing it up with Quake.
They've added another TC to Doom since last I checked though. The Scientist - which I've never heard of. It's cool that they're still adding them though.
I do wish they had Aliens TC (never going to happen I guess) on Doom, and Arcane Dimensions on Quake. That last one seems possible.

I just started Ground Zero, finished the first two units, and yes. Turrets have been nerfed. They have less health, seem slightly slower to lock on you, and now they have a visible laser sight that allows you to spot them out earlier.
Good thing too. I hated turrets.

Arcane Dimensions might be technically possible, but I guess there would be legal issues, as it takes some assets from Hexen 2 (which is owned by Activision). Maybe when the Acti-MS purchase becomes a done thing?

They're putting the railgun back up to 125 damage in SP with the next patch so that should make some of the 3 shot enemies 2 shots again, or 1 shot if you surprise them.

Nice! Hope that means DF2 will follow. Delta Force 2 would indeed be excellent. Grass-hiding MP antics… … but will also settle for Kyle Katarn. Finished Jedi Knight again last year and it stands up well, the scale on some of the maps is amazing.

I honestly didn’t like the look of that Dark Forces trailer. The whole thing had a bit of an AI upscaled look to it.

I honestly didn’t like the look of that Dark Forces trailer. The whole thing had a bit of an AI upscaled look to it. My main problem was the FOV looked ridiculously narrow. Thanks for the motion sickness, devs. Although I suppose it might have a slider. But anyway, I'm not the biggest Dark Forces fan out there. Jedi Knight, on the other hand...

I'm not sure what they can really do to remaster Dark Forces, other than AI upscale it and sort out the mouselook. Maybe something like voxel-doom to make all the enemies properly 3d without losing the look. As far as I can tell from the trailer, the vertical looking is still kinda fake. DF was great at the time, but it was largely due to being able to be immersed in the SW universe in real 3d! Which doesn't have quite the impact now. The level where you were going through the burnt out village after the stromtroopers destroyed it, complete with all the 'owen and beru' skeletons, was quite impactful at the time. It wouldn't be now. The upscaled 3d cutscenes look good, but I have kinda a soft spot for the pixelized animated cutscenes of this and things like Tie-Fighter, so I prefer those to the more cartoony looking new ones. As I said in the other thread, I'd be mildly interested, but unliked to buy it. DF2: Jedi Knight on the other hand, I'd love a proper remaster that's easy to set up. There is OpenJDK and some high-res mods and they do work pretty well, but they can be a pain to set up.
What I'd actually like is a proper remake in the vein of System Shock - very loyal to the original, but upgrading the graphics while still keeping them feeling a bit retro.

Just have the 3D bits render in higher res and leave the sprites sharp and chunky. Like the Doom ports, or Nightdive’s own Powerslave remaster. It just ends up looking cheap the way they handled Dark Forces.

I'm trying to work out why the Doom re-releases are more appealing than the Dark Forces one, given I loved both at the time.
I think it's because I doubt I'm going to play either of them through fully, but I know Doom is something I can dip into from time to time given that there's no story, multiplayer, etc.. Whereas Dark Forces was much more of a story driven affair that should be played through completely.

Going through Ground Zero, and it's nice how much better it is now they have massively nerfed those freaking turrets. It even gives me the time to look around and notice how the map design is indeed pretty nice, with lots of variety to it. Shame there are still some very cheap situations (Medic Commanders are the worst), and it makes the cardinal sin of not giving you enough shotgun ammo, but still, now it's actually a fairly good expansion.
We'll see if Reckoning got the same treatment. I remember, in particular, the laser soldiers could be a big pain.

Had a slight problem, quake2ex_steam.exe got flagged for quarantine by Avira. Verified integrity of game files, 155 had to be reacquired? What the fuck are you using Avira for? Just get rid and forget it, you don't need it. This is ace, a bunch of stuff fixed, a ton of new content including a whole new episode made by Machine Head. And the multiplayer has made a comeback.

Since there’s probably not much mileage in doing Quake 3 or 4 (as much as I loved them at the time) has anyone made any noise about doing the Heretic/Hexen games?

Hexen would be a stretch, it was a bit of a novelty/mod at the time
