Re. the Wii talk...
The Wii was just an overclocked gamecube with a shitty waggle stick. It didn't even have an HDMI connection and it came out when everybody just upgraded to LCD TVs, so everything looked like a blurry mess too. Plus 95% of the games released on it were either shovelware dog shite or terrible ports of 360/ps3 games.
I loved the gamecube, I legit hated that console.

It had house of the dead:overkill though, with magnum shaped light guns. Which has one of the best funk soundtracks going. Not to mention an entry in the Guinness book of records for the amount of times "motherfucker" is mentioned in a video game.
I only keep my Wii for that but it's so worth it.

We still use our Wii quite a lot.
I legit loved the Gamecube. Maybe my fave console of all time.
But there's a lot of good stuff on the Wii, and it's really great being able to navigate the menu with the pointer.
Not to mention that the Switch motion controls are largely due to the Wii.

Came out on PS3 too, I played it with Move controllers. Also has a 3D mode, at the time I had a 120” 3D projector for the biggest and deepest motherfuckers imaginable.

It comes with superb 1980s cardboard 3d glasses. Though it made me heave a bit. Bosses are harder on ps3 too. Still prefer the Wii magnums though.

The Wii is also really easy to hack, if you haven't done it yet.

Some people have complained about some ghosting, but it does the job for me.

I’ve got two blacks and one purple, which is pretty faded. I seem to remember why I have so many. I bought a GameCube bundle cheap about 10 years ago, so I could get an another controller. So I only have two controllers I did have a third party, but I think I binned it as it broke.

There's a new mod out for GameCube called the FlippyDrive. Just plugs in, no soldering required and you don't have to remove the disc drive. Provides an SD slot that you can load disc images from, as well as back up your own discs if you like. There's also a (currently experimental) built in WiFi module, but I don't think it does much yet beyond allowing you to access GC disc images over the network. www.crowdsupply.com/team-offbroadway/flippydrive

Seems like this could be legit, first leaked renders (and an actual photo of new joycons):
A bigger and better Switch is all I wanted, so if this is it, I'm fucking hyped.

If it has backwards compatibility, it will pretty much be day one for me.

Nice. Hopefully Nintendo will drop a reveal direct soon. Seems to be a lot of smoke.

Would be a shame not to have some of Nintendo's innovation and creativity in the new console but I get why they appear to be going for more of the same.

I think for now it’s the smart idea. There’s still a big market for portable gaming that phones have not eroded. That and separating teams to work on multiple platforms again is just too risky now.

I play the Switch almost exclusively docked, except for occasionally traveling/holidays. But the kids (unless we are playing multiplayer as a family) almost always play handheld. So at least for our household, the dual use is great and it makes a lot of sense. I think for a lot of people it's a big plus and I do hope they continue it.
I don't expect Nintendo to try and compete on graphical horsepower with Sony and Microsoft but I would like them to close the gap. The concept of having the dock (or a pro dock at additional cost) contain additional silicon to boost visuals when playing on a TV has been mooted in the past by others, but not something I have heard of from Nintendo themselves.
Be interesting to see what they do do - two SKUs have been mentioned - it might be standard/oled, or standard/lite again, but there is the chance it's something else and we do get a "pro" model from the start.
Personally I will be buying it whatever (I've never been disappointed with a Nintendo purchase) and will almost certainly go for the premium option if given a choice.

I know it adds price and is probably beyond their capabilities but I would like to see some kind of portal functionality through the dock. I play pretty much exclusively on the switch lite but the girl plays the full fat version on the TV quite a lot. I'd like to be able to hook into the dock somehow and, if not cast what I'm playing to it, use the lite as a joypad.
But, yeah, if the product range is tablet and lite again, I'd buy both day one.

Really hope they keep the stripped back UI too. No video or social media apps, no achievement/trophy system and most importantly no ads.
Sounds like a small thing (and it probably is) but I love how the Switch is just a games machine that doesn't feature any of that extra fluff.

That is a big bonus, you switch it on, pick a game and play. I don't find it much of a faff on the PS or Xbox really, but the simpler the better. I do quite like the trophies, but can do without them

I will say that the Switch has saved me a lot more money than other consoles, as aimlessly browsing the Switch store is just a form of self harm.
