The joy-cons stick drift issue is actually quite easy to fix but I've also got it on my pro controller and from what I can tell its a bit more complicated to resolve.
No idea what's going with my controllers across playstation, nintendo and Xbox but they've all had problems this gen though I'm sure it's not helped by clumsy kids dropping them all the bloody time.

I happened to get my Switch around the time my brother was selling his and tried out the Pro Controller. Pretty much instantly decided not to buy it off him and get something else, because there were so many ghost inputs on the d-pad playing Tetris 99.

If it’s backwards compatible I’ll get one. I’ve completely missed the switch generation, so getting the switch 2 will enable to play the 2 or 3 actually new Nintendo first party games I missed out on This bait is as stinky as it was in the PS5 thread, but I'll humour you and take a nibble: Mario Odyssey, Mario Wonder, BotW, TotK and now Echoes of Wisdom. Two new Marios and three new Zeldas alone, without counting spinoffs (Mario Party, Mario Kart etc) or remakes/remasters (Thousand Year Door, Link's Awakening DX etc.). If I did bring up spinoffs it would probably be like ten, out of only two of their franchises. And please, do be cute and say BotW doesn't count because it also had a Wii U version

Stick drift is definitely a problem on Dualsense controllers, I've had several and they all did it at some point. Quite a few Dualsense users on some small Discord I'm on also had it. Contrast with previous gens where I never had this problem, even a 15 year old DS3 is still working fine. But to even things out, I had L2/R2s going bust on both DS3's and DS4's whereas on Dualsenses there's never been any other issue than the stick drift.

I can't be the only person to have a launch switch with a pro controller and it all works 100%?

Last time I used the joycons for anything was Fire Emblem Engage. They feel way too dainty and sensitive, and that was just for walking around between missions. Really bad for camera controls. Who uses an analogue stick for 2D games (apart from dangerousdave)
Pro controller is great and I haven't had any issues with the D pad but I am a pro so that's probably why

What's the fix for the joy-cons, new pots or just some deoxit on the old ones? I can really recommend the d-pad tape fix, it's not hard if you have the right screwdrivers.** **not responsible for fuck-ups or torn flat cables

I can say I beat Dead Cells (3 Boss Cells) and Hollow Knight with the stick. It’s definitely easier than trying to use an Xbox controller (either stick or d-pad). It just takes a little while to adapt to. Not long had a PS5, but the D-pad positioning would probably make that the best of the 3.

When y'all are talking about bad sticks, do you mean only the joycons or also the pro controller? (I don't have one but I'm Switch-curious) Thinking of getting one?

Well you're not missing much. They've only released 2 games in the last 15 years and they were Super Nintendo remasters

I've toyed with getting one. Had the Wii U for a bit. Think it will be inevitable with the kids. Keep them away from my Xbox.

Imagine this rumour has some truth to it, except they’re finally announcing a Switch Pro, with a successor delayed for another two years. It’s the kind of own goal that might be possible for Nintendo.

Well it's going to be a Switch 2 seeing as the tech has been reported on and it was seen running the Matrix demo. It's a Switch 2.

The build quality on the switch is soooo shit. Or maybe they were just too ambitous trying to get all those little connectable parts to work.
Non-launch switch from about 3 years ago:
Stand - shit. Keeps falling off.
Left Joycon: - stick drift
Both Joycons: - top buttons (when disconnected and held horizontally) have stopped working because of the way they fold the connector ribbon inside. - Randomly disconnect from the switch when they're 'attached' to it, about every 20 seconds for the left one because the locking catch is cheap plastic, and the connectors are crap. So can no-longer play in handheld mode.
Right Joycon: - (A) button is a bit naff and sometimes doesn't register.

"Stand - shit" I don't think I've ever really used mine undocked. I know that's the whole point but I'd rather watch it on the big telly. Still going strong though. Probably because I don't use it much nowadays. Though I still reckon it's worth it's price just for breath of the wild imo.

When I use it undocked I use it as a handheld console tbh, never felt the need for a stand
Can't argue about the joycons though, I think the only time they were used unattached was when DadFE was playing Mario Odyssey (and even he's not sure whether he did or he used the Pro controller...)

Is it weird that I always thought of it as a home console with optional/QoL handheld functionality (I know Quad basically said the same thing, but still)? I can't see why someone would be against it having that at all tbh...

I always thought the main tablet part was build surprisingly solid. Like the joycon rails are metal, they’ve could have easily cheapened out on those. And from watching repair videos, they mainly die from liquid damage.

Even with all else about the hardware/software being equal, I'm not sure how a Switch with docking hardware/detachable Joycons (or a bundled controller) but without handheld functionality would cost less than a handheld-only Switch without those things... Especially when you consider that as a homebound console it would likely be expected to have better performance (so better hardware) than the handheld-only option we have now, as well...

Nintendo's main controllers have been shit for 3 generations now. Wiimote, Wii U and Joycons have all been horrible. Fortunately the pro controller mostly makes up for it.
The actual slab of the switch is really good quality though I thought, not had any trouble with that or the dock.

JuniorFEI just mean just a traditional small box with a basic ass controller, no docking capabilities and most importantly, no fancy display or any such thing. With the hardware to run games the same as in docked mode. Should be noticeably cheaper?

The Wii Remote was shit? First I've heard of that, even without the Motion Plus function it was considered revolutionary (and later Wiimotes came with Motion Plus bundled in the original Wiimote's size anyway IIRC)
And the Wii U "controller" was kinda just... the entire console, it being a fumble wasn't as much about the controls as it was about its lacking library, AFAIK...

I hated the Wiimote too, it's horrible if all you want is a comfortable normal controller and really don't care for motion controls. And it completely changed what kind of games you'd get on the console, there was almost nothing that I liked at all, and even then there was always some arbitrary wiimote-waggling nonsense shoehorned in. It was the reason why I quit Nintendo, and traditional home console gaming with pro controller (or similar) is why I'm even beginning to consider getting a Nintendo console again.
