Phantom Hourglass was pure class, Spirit Tracks was similar but I don't recall actually finishing it.

Spirit tracks was the better game, but I remember getting stuck at one point.

I loved Phantom Hourglass. Gave me retro Zelda vibes. The sailing is more engaging than Wind Waker, too. The controls might frustrate, as might the main dungeon, but I enjoyed both of those things.
It was a tad easy, though.

Reports saying it won't release in this financial year. We're discussing it in the Switch thread.

Reports saying it won't release in this financial year. Fucking hell Nintendo, I have a few hundred quid here and a launch switch on its last legs that I don't want to replace.

Information has come from the same guy who apparently leaked the PS5 Pro announcement date and price:

Did we hear from Nintendo it wasn't releasing this financial year or was that unsubstantiated rumour?
That doesn't mean this rumour isn't also true. It could always be announced in October and released in April. Think the last Switch was revealed in October and released March, so not that different. It is also along the lines of what I've been expecting.
Certain that it is nonsense in that article about a digital version. Can't see Nintendo going down that route yet. I expect of all the consoles, Switch had easily the biggest proportion of physical sales. More likely is that they will release a portable only lite version and a version with a dock. Or they will release an OLED and non-OLED version (would like the latter, but expecting the former).

What ai nonsense is that write up? Disc drive? I for one welcome our new Gamecube style mini-disc overlords.

It does at least track with the "lol we're half your price" middle finger to Sony soon after the PS5 Pro announcement, to maximise the contrast, that I expected them to do... But I'll believe that announcement when it's straight from the horse's mouth and not a moment sooner

From what I've been hearing at work, people are going to be *very* surprised by the form factor Nintendo have gone for with this - to say the least. Think "fruit".
I'm going to guess the 2 SKUs mentioned in the leak relate specifically to this.

Switch 2: Apples and Oranges edition. Comes with the new Pokemon games of the same name pre-installed!

If they announce it this year, surely they’re going hard on backwards compatibility? Zelda and Mario Party are likely going to be multi-million selling titles and their sales might take a hit if they aren’t advertised as being compatible with the new console, in some enhanced capacity.
If that’s not the case, and they just ‘work’ on the console, then you’d Imagine they’d hold off on any kind of announcement until after Christmas.

If it’s backwards compatible I’ll get one. I’ve completely missed the switch generation, so getting the switch 2 will enable to play the 2 or 3 actually new Nintendo first party games I missed out on

Hopefully switch 2 has decent analogue sticks. The current ones are total shit in any games where you have to aim a weapon. Everything relies on aim assist. Zelda was pretty good though for arrows if you used the motion instead of stick aim.

Gyro needs to be normalised. I hear PS5 is better for it, but it’s way better than sticks alone.
I’ve also grown to like the Switch sticks. Obviously, bigger is better for 3D camera movement, but smaller is better for 2D movement and I think they’re a decent compromise given the kinds of games available for the system.
It’s weird to think I’d ever get used to that (when the console launched), but they genuinely are good compromise, in my opinion.

My launch switch just started to do the stick drift thing. Frankly amazed it’s still alive, I’ve replaced the fan twice, there’s screws missing, and it’s been hacked for years with multiple hard crashes and wonky firmware updates.

When y'all are talking about bad sticks, do you mean only the joycons or also the pro controller? (I don't have one but I'm Switch-curious)

My pro is fine. I did have to modify the d-pad by adding a couple layers of electrical tape under the centre post just to get through Celeste.

So the d-pad is shit? Wtf happened to Nintendo, they invented the damn thing -_-
But from what I read there are 3rd party options with better ones, so that's good I guess

I don’t know if they’ve ever fixed it, but if you pushed up for example it would go to one of the diagonal directions way too easily, which is an instadeath in something like Celeste.

Yeah, that is still an issue with the Pro Controller. Enough that I just use regular Joy Con sticks instead. I never had drift on my Pro Controller, but one of the shoulder buttons died late last year and I’ve not bothered coughing up for a replacement.
For what it’s worth, the D-Pad on the NES Joy Con are perfect. I use it for all NES and arcade games with minimal inputs.
Kinda wish I’d got a SNES pad or two.
