Yeah - they wouldn't have enough units made to be the Must Have Toy of 2024 most likely anyway. Sensible to go early 2025, get some games out there, build up word of mouth, then smash Christmas 2025.

I wouldn't even be surprised if this happens because Switch sales are currently better than expected. Nintendo are probably wondering if they could milk the market for another year and use up a decent amount of that Tegra X1 stock they're probably sitting on.

A cut price Switch 1 with a game bundle would fly off the shelves at Christmas.

I hated that game more than any others I can think of.

I think I mentioned it earlier in the thread in a 'cannot reveal my sources' way.

Well damn.
Unless this is going to be another case of them running with something only to be wrong.

Dang, starting to sound likely that 2025 will be the year of the Switch 2. I expect it will be reasonably early in the year, probably following a similar release schedule of the first one (official announcement around October 2024, release around March 2025).
Disappointing, mostly because I've been saying 2024 for about the last 3 years or so.
This year is looking pretty quiet for the Switch 1, unless they have more unannounced releases.

Nintendo are probably wondering if they could milk the market for another year and use up a decent amount of that Tegra X1 stock they're probably sitting on. They could probably overtake the PS2 before this launches. Maybe the console will allow them to do like Xbox and enhance games so they release a few Switch 2 'launch' titles this year then give them a free upgrade when the console actually releases.

Rumours are Nintendo are ditching consoles and bringing Gamepass to PlayStation.

To me it sounds more like 2024 is going to be the year of me getting another steam deck.

Interestingly enough just last night I was watching an episode of The Sopranos from season 1 and this was the game the kid was playing in the episode. I told my family what game it was. No one responded. Lol I remarked on this when the wife and I were watching a few years ago. She also did not care

To me it sounds more like 2024 is going to be the year of me getting another steam deck. I'm actually quite tempted by the Ayaneo Slide, mainly for the utility of having a physical keyboard. Wasn't going to bite if the Switch 2 was close, but now...

Bit of a bummer but I've got loads of stuff to be catching up with so could use this time to do that and if it means more time for a stronger launch line up/window I'm all for it.

You guys are acting like an extra 4 months or so on top of what we thought is a liiiiiiifetime away. For me it's just a (mostly bogus) excuse to justify buying a new device I don't need

You guys are acting like an extra 4 months or so on top of what we thought is a liiiiiiifetime away. There’s something psychological about something being more than a year away.

Kinda depressing but, looking at Switch sales figures that are slowing but not exactly falling off a cliff, they obviously have the luxury of choosing their launch period and taking their time. The big shame for me is the lack of any new first party games this year that interest me... my Switch this year will likely just be for rinsing TOTK dry, which is fine I guess.

I was thinking about what I want from a Switch 2, and tbh the only things I want are better build quality so the joycons don't break all the time, built in voice chat without needing to use the stupid phone app, and decent parental controls that allow you to set play time limits PER CHILD!
Basically fixing the pain points with Switch1. (though the latter 2 they could fix easily enough with a software update, but I've given up hope on that for Switch 1)

I'm all for any delay, as long as it means there will be less stock/inventory problems not allowing scalpers to have a field day and that the console itself won't feel outdated. Not sure if any of the above applies here, but there you go...

My hot take: there is no such thing as a new Switch. Nintendo will keep "delaying" it for as long as possible, or at least until the Switch becomes the best selling console ever by a distance, before revealing something completely new and bonkers.

I don't know about that, the first party releases for the thing have slowed down quite a lot. Seems to indicate that they're devoting resources to a new thing.

I was joking, but you honestly never know. I think they'd be happy to drag the Switch out for as long as possible if the sales haven't slowed down significantly.

Plus they ain't doing something new and bonkers. They have something that works, they've successfully combined their handheld and console resources and market together. They're not going back to wild and crazy shit, it will have a gimmick, apparently a camera for AR shit, but that's it it's still going to be a Switch.
